  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are pastors required to agree with all the “Calvary Chapel Distinctives” in Chuck Smith’s book?

Hello. I’ve been reading more about Calvary Chapel. There is one nearby that I’m considering joining. One thing I still don’t understand the degree to which a pastor must conform to Chuck Smith’s book “Calvary Chapel Distinctives.” On virtually every site related to Calvary Chapel and the...

Traditional Worship in the Calvary Chapel

Having read with interest Chuck Smith’s Calvary Chapel Distinctives , I did not get the sense that there was anything prohibiting traditional or even liturgical worship in a Calvary Chapel, provided that the focus of the service was entirely Christocentric, and the preaching was based on...

    Texas

Hello everyone. Haven't been on here in a very long time so I thought I would reintroduce myself and see if there is anyone else on here from my area. My actual name is Sean (wish I could go back and change my user name). I live in the Victoria/Port Lavaca area of Texas. Currently, I teach a...

How can you financially support a church whose finances are in a secret black box?

I was raised Southern Baptist, where an annual 'Business Meeting' was held once a year or so to print up a budget to be voted on by formal church members who felt like showing up on a Wednesday night. Deacons (and budget committee members when there was such a committee assigned), decided what...

What do you think of churches who offer zero dollar transparency and no collective decision-making?

They belong to a network of churches called Calvary Chapel. They use 'boards' made up of people who don't even attend the church or live locally. It's whatever good-ole-boy network the head pastor wants to involve in his church. Every time you ask a question on what might happen, the answer is...

    Anabaptist roots

Friends; I have been told by a Mennonite that Calvary Chapel has Anabaptist roots. Does anyone here have a resource referencing such a history?

Not getting along well with someone

I have been at my wit's end with somebody. He is a Christian but I find him judgmental and radical. Today when I mentioned Harvest Crusade and Greg Laurie, he went on and on about how he was antagonized by Calvary chapel pastors. But I think that is judging an entire denomination based on the...
