>>What was the old covenant with God, and how does it differ with the new covenant of today?

Which old covenant? There are a lot of covenant's in the Old Testament. God had a covenant with Abraham. Actually, that turned out to be two covenants, one concerning the Child of Promise though Sarah, and the other covenant concerning the child that Abraham has with the Sarahs handmaid, the Egyptian Hagar. After Sarah died, Abraham had more wives and more children, so there could have been covenant with them also. Also, God had a covenant with Noah and "all flesh". God established a covenant with Isaac & Jaccob.

The most famious covenant which was actually two covenants. The covenant that God established with the Hebrew Children through Moses, made popular by the ten commandments. Perhaps this is the most well known covenant, because they made a movie out of it. The first covenant had to do with the Hebrew Children's relationship with God established at the mountain. The second covenant had to do with their relationship with each other, established just before they entered into the promised land.

The covenant we have with God is based on the Covenant He had with Abraham, but it is a New Covenant also, becasue it comes through the Blood of Jesus.

Hebrews 10:16-17 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," [17] then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more."

According to the terms of a covenant, if we do our part, we can be sure that God is not a liar, He will do His part. It is like a contract between two people.

The covenant is in effect for anyone one who does not: "trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace" Hebrews 10:29b
