  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am at a loss to explain why you keep bringing up your bad/erroneous/false/accusatory understanding of C14-dating. I was replying to a claim about an ancient religious text. One which is not consistent with historical and geological data.
It's because he's got nothing. So he has to keep harping on nothing because it's all he has.

And as such, God can not and does not deceive.

Do those who study God's creation, and are highly qualified to do so ... who put in blood, sweat, and tears into deep diving into their respective fields ... do they agree with you?

It's not a question of agreeing with me. It's about the Earth and what it is showing those folks about itself.

Just out of curiosity I asked AI how many radiocarbon tests has been done world wide.
Here's the response:

There isn't an official worldwide count, but we can make a reasonable estimate.

Radiocarbon dating has been in routine use since the late 1940s, and today there are well over 100 active laboratories worldwide. One university source notes that tens of thousands of radiocarbon measurements are commissioned every year.

A rough estimate looks like this:
  • 1950s–1960s: perhaps 5,000–20,000 measurements per year.
  • 1970s–1980s: roughly 20,000–50,000 per year as more labs opened.
  • 1990s–today: about 50,000–100,000+ per year, especially after accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) made dating faster and required much smaller samples.
Adding those decades together suggests:
  • Conservative estimate: ~2 million radiocarbon measurements worldwide.
  • Likely estimate: 3–5 million measurements.
  • Upper-end estimate: perhaps 6–8 million, depending on how many unpublished commercial, environmental, forensic, and industrial measurements are included.
For perspective, the largest global archaeological compilation currently contains about 180,000 archaeological radiocarbon dates, and its creators describe it as the largest standardized archaeological database—not all radiocarbon dates ever measured. That means archaeological databases represent only a fraction of the total number of measurements, since many dates come from geology, oceanography, climate research, ecology, forensics, and commercial contract work, and many are never included in public databases.

So if you asked me for a single best guess, I'd say:
Around 3–5 million radiocarbon tests have probably been performed worldwide since the method was invented in 1949.
It's an estimate rather than a documented total, because no organization has kept a cumulative global count across all laboratories and disciplines.

In other words, yes, they disagree with you.

I kinda thought so.

Can you make sense of his comment?
C14 can be accurate but it can also be off 10%, 20%, or completely off.
We need to find out what dictionary these characters use as the word accurate seems to be interchangeable with ambiguous.

That has absolutely nothing to do with looking at the Earth for knowledge about the Earth.

But everything to do with disagreeing with you.

Sorry. I have no idea what your talking about. When looking at the Earth and what it has to offer in the way of knowledge about itself, what ever disagreement your thinking of just is not there.

And as such, God can not and does not deceive. What we see of the Earth is straight and is reality, or it wouldn't physically exist. None of the wacky embedded age stuff or angels having snowball fights with asteroid or any of the other imagined YEC reality denial pretense that we so often see here in this sub-forum.
Why do you repeat this over and over again - what you see is what God created.

EXACTLY! And what we see in God's creation does not line up with what you and your ilk keep saying: it does not line up with a world created 6000 years ago, and it does not line up with a global flood.

Good word - C14 dating is ambiguous

P1: What you see does not agree with what we say.
P2: What we say is what the Bible says.
P3: What the Bible says is what God says.
C: What you see is not what God says.

Who are we in premise 1, 2 and 3? Your position (I'm assuming you are including yourself in the we in question) doesn't seem to be even a majority position amongst christians, so premise 2 seems to be overstated. More than 1 religion claim to be talking for god, for the abrahamic religions we have 3 that differ on the view of the bible. So I think premises 2 and 3 are questionable. Do you have any arguments to support your premises?

I'll let Warden answer this one.

As he put it:

What did YOU mean in your post? Just answer it please, you have to have known what YOU meant.

You can support your premises, if you think them correct.

I'll pass.

You're trying not to understand.

And doing a good job.

If Warden wants to clarify to you what he meant by that, so be it.
