  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So you don't think there is a price to pay (now and historically) for going against the established science?

You claimed that scientists killed other scientists for going against established science, and nothing you presented supported your claim in the slightest.

It may mean your claims are scrutinized extra carefully. But if you can back them up you should be good.

Like, that's the bit I don't think Platte et al understand. Scientific claims are not just accepted as is, even historically. Common people might have gone "Oh, he's a scientist and he said this, that settles it!", but other scientists would take the time to test the claims to see if they stood up.
Was there pushback against ideas because of cultural views and norms? 100% yes. A simple look in a history book will show you that.
Was anyone intentionally and explicitly killed by other scientists for ideas going against cultural views and norms? Not a chance.

And you have no clue to what is really going on - typical science person that think they know everything but actually know very little. You might want to learn some humility....it will serve you well in the last stages of your life.

Our listed ages show virtually no difference, so you can cut out the wise old man nonsense.

You've rather arrogantly claimed that I represent the typical "science person" who knows little but claims to know everything. Speaking of arrogant nonsense... I have not spoken of things I don't have some knowledge of, or knowledge I can confirm with references. Yet it is the YEC poster who blusters past their own gaping ignorance by quoting a delusional machine with pages of text they have no realistic hope of confirming. I picked entries from your list that reminded me of facts I thought I knew and indicated you were wrong. I used those to confirm that I was correct and your list item was nonsense.

You have no clue how science is actually done and it shows.

I said: Are you aware that Science has a history of destroying - even killing - anyone who doesn't adhear to their ideas?

With all of the tangents being artificially injected into this thread, have we figured out whether or not God created from nothing?
As I recall from the 2500-year-old text that starts the Hebrew scripture, their god starts with a chaotic Earth and forms it by relocating the waters upward and downward and no substance is stated as being created from nothing. Even Adam the Man is formed from the dirt and has life breathed into him.

As I recall this "ex nihlio" philosophy comes into Judaic thought with the Greek philosophers a few hundred years later, but this is getting dangerously close to knowing something about philosophy and it is starting to give me the willies.

And that claim has been proven to be false, majorly and clearly false.

Firstly we have the typical themes found in creationist sites such as AIG and ICR with the aid of distorting AI responses presented in this thread.
Since @Platte is incapable of understanding the counter responses, the true underbelly is revealed in the form of anti-intellectualism.
In this case it is in the form of scientists engaging in killings.

Anti-intellectualism is an emotive reaction to perceived threats, in this case the threat to religious faith.

Well, basically we and all that seems to exist is an imagination in the mind of God?

You need to put down the ai pipe and stop your anti-science nonsense. A few select entries from your "list-ination"...

Methinks Eddington was "Jelly" of his student (and had competing theories of stellar structure). Chandra was sure badly wounded by this becoming a distinguished professor at Chicago/Yerkes (one of the premier astronomy institutions in the world), editor of the top journal in his field (The Astrophysical Journal), won a Nobel Prize, and has enough stuff named after him to fill a text book. Seems like he was persecuted or whatever.
Yes - this ridicule forced a future Nobel Prize winner to leave Europe for the United States....you marginalize that?
He had to leave his freaking country to become successful because of it!!!!

I consider you Science...I don't think youre a scientists though.

No, by discipline I'm an amateur historian. Which gives me a much better standing to say that your claim, "Are you aware that Science has a history of destroying - even killing - anyone who doesn't adhear to their ideas?" is patently and demonstrably false, if not an out right lie. Because it is. There is absolutely no truth behind it.

That was figured out long ago.

Oh great. Another one following AV's example of calling anything he doesn't like the thing he doesn't like. For him it's 'academia', for you it's 'science'.

Buddy, you were caught out in a lie, clear as day for all to see. Be humble, admit that you were wrong and everything will go so much better from here on out.

Q: Did the scientists aboard the Deepwater Horizon cut corners?

AI Overview: Yes, multiple investigations by congressional investigators and presidential commissions concluded that BP and its contractors cut corners in the days leading up to the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Facing severe budget overruns and delays, engineers deferred and abandoned critical safety measures, drilling mud efforts, and well designs.

They paid with their lives for going against the established scientific safety protocols.

I think I asked you this once before, but I'll ask it again.

Would YOU have driven under the Florida footbridge, if it would have been convenient for you to do so?

To the best of my knowledge, you have not asked me this before.

And I honestly refuse to play along with this sort of question because the premise is entirely flawed from the outset and is frankly ghoulish of you to use it as a 'gotcha!' point.

I like how you focus on the scientists and engineers but ignore who was running the rig and the whole shebang in general, you know; the people who would have actually exerted the pressure to get them to cut corners.
