  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One of the ironies of US politics seems to be that Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Zohran Mamdani both originally hail from Queens in New York despite their very different take on social justice.

It also appears that wealth in New York is far too heavily distributed towards the rich. Mamdani may be Moslem, but he got the votes as he wants to do something about this inequality.

New York is the largest and richest city in the US, and also one of the country's most unequal.

It's a city with 384,500 millionaires, 818 centi-millionaires and 66 billionaires, but where one in 16 residents lives in public housing.

That inequality has only become more pronounced, according to Ron Barba, who says Mamdani's pledge to get living costs under control had been key to getting his vote.
I'm Australian so I don't usually say much about US politics. But I've long thought the huge inequality in wealth is contributing to social breakdown in the US, and will increasingly do so.

Money is not distributed to people to make just a certain group of people rich. These people are rich because they worked for it or their parents did or grandparents, etc... The wealth was earned either by legal means or illegal means, but still these rich people worked for their money.

The people in the news item who earn $250,000 per year combined also work for their money, but they can barely make ends meet.

Brooklyn couple Mallorie Ekstrom and her husband Andy, whose daughter Valentina is two, say it means they can start thinking about having a second child.

"We would not be able to afford two day cares," says Mallorie, adding the mayor's childcare changes are "huge" for their family.

The couple live in a two-bedroom apartment a short walk from Valentina's daycare centre.

Child care alone costs them $US2,000 a month, and that's after they have secured a discount.

Despite earning a combined $US250,000 a year, they say there is little left in the bank at the end of each month.

"After rent, day care, I still have student loans, our regular bills, groceries, car — it all adds up and then we're left with nothing," Mallorie says.

"We make enough money that we don't get any assistance for housing or food or for child care, but all of our money gets wiped into paying all those things."

That’s like observing Saks 5th Avenue is skewed toward the wealthy and demanding they open dollar stores. NYC is an expensive city.

Now, there’s an unspoken assumption here that having wealth is a crime. That’s pretty much part and parcel of good communist and socialist ideology, at least until party members want a summer dacha. The other is that the way to material happiness is taking wealth you did not earn from those who did. The end result is always everyone but party members live miserable existence with no way to legally climb out of it.

Thus I find NYC’s situation amusing in a cruel way. Those who know Mandani’s plans won’t work and who can leave will do so, leaving behind those who think his way will bring personal prosperity and who will double-down when things don’t work out as hoped.

They push the boundaries of legality. Trump's father, for example, besides all the fraudulent tax valuations, also set up a sham company. When he needed plumbers, electricians etc. to repair his buildings, the sham company would hire them. If the plumber billed $500 the non-existent "company" would send Trump a bill for $700 so he could claim 40% more expenses. He taught his son all his scams but his son has taken government fleecing to a whole new level of corruption.

So why is fraud so prevalent in blue states? Democrats who claim Trump is engaged in fraud need to look deep in the mirror.
