  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Obama, Clinton and Biden show disrespect for the late Jesse Jackson

Jesse Jackson Jr. rebukes Obama, Clinton and Biden for not truly knowing his father during memorial service

"Do not bring your politics out of respect to Rev. Jesse Jackson, and the life that he lived, to these ongoing services. Come respectful, and come to say thank you. But these ongoing services are welcome to ALL—Democrat, Republican, liberal, and conservative. Right-wing, left-wing. Because his life is broad enough to cover the full spectrum of what it means to be an American," Jackson Jr. said in February, one day after his father’s death.

and they did the exact opposite, turning his memorial into a political issue.

During his father’s memorial service on Saturday, Jesse Jackson Jr. offered a sharp rebuke of the tributes given by former Democratic presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, noting that the trio shared one thing in common: they didn’t really know his father.

"Yesterday I listened for several hours of three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson," Jackson Jr. said on Saturday.

That was a very sad, sad display by those politicians when they turned Jesse Jackson's funeral into a political event against the wishes of Jackson's family.

I did not hear any of the eulogies delivered by Clinton, Biden, or Obama. I am sure that whoever spoke at the service spoke at the invitation of the family.

This article said Obama did not mention by Trump by name, although he mentioned people who suffer from poverty, discrimination, and hate. I guess Jackson, Jr. connected the dots--and they weren't hard to connect.

Clinton spoke about his friendship with Jackson.

It is impossible to talk about those who suffer from human rights violations without drawing attention to 'the elephant in the living room.' That's not the fault of the advocates. It's the fault of the elephant.

I'm not surprised that an article from yahoo.com failed to actually show what the Jackson family found really objectionable.

You do realize that yahoo.com didn't actually publish the article, right?

Trump supporters calling out others for being disrespectful? I'll try really hard to take that seriously.
It is Rev. Jackson's son calling them out - read the OP.

I don't think he is posting on this thread.
That's what happens when one does not read the OP

Even in death - there are politicians who manipulate people for political points.
Oh!
I'm sorry.
Republican voters actually cared about things like that?

I just wasn't expecting posts about a topic like this.

Oh by the way, was Trump at the funeral for so venerable a man and impactful a man in America's history?

There is a whole lot you don't seem to know.

"I knew him well, long before becoming president. He was a good man, with lots of personality, grit, and 'street smarts.' He was very gregarious - Someone who truly loved people!" the post read.
"He loved his family greatly, and to them I send my deepest sympathies and condolences. Jesse will be missed!" ~ President Trump.

To be fair, when I fall under the assumption that opinions on human behaviour are consistent, that is my downfall.

What I need to get better is remembering WHO really has a reputation for being a brutish lout, and then remembering that his behaviours are excusable because it's his quaint charm.

Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of a true giant, the Reverend Jesse Jackson.

For more than 60 years, Reverend Jackson helped lead some of the most significant movements for change in human history. From organizing boycotts and sit-ins, to registering millions of voters, to advocating for freedom and democracy around the world, he was relentless in his belief that we are all children of God, deserving of dignity and respect.

Reverend Jackson also created opportunities for generations of African Americans and inspired countless more, including us. Michelle got her first glimpse of political organizing at the Jacksons’ kitchen table when she was a teenager. And in his two historic runs for president, he laid the foundation for my own campaign to the highest office of the land.

Michelle and I will always be grateful for Jesse’s lifetime of service, and the friendship our families share. We stood on his shoulders. We send our deepest condolences to the Jackson family and everyone in Chicago and beyond who knew and loved him.

Yeah boy. This statement by Obama is really disrespectful.

What was Trump quoted as saying at the funeral?

He chose not to be at the funeral.

Jesse Jackson’s Son Swipes at Obama and Biden After Politically-Charged Eulogies: They ‘Do Not Know Jesse Jackson’

Jesse Jackson Jr. took a not-so-subtle swipe at three former Democratic presidents who spoke at his father’s memorial service — Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden — saying they did not know the real Jesse Jackson.
“Yesterday I listened for several hours of three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson,” he said on Saturday.
Jackson Jr. continued, “He maintained a tense relationship with the political order, not because the presidents were White or Black, but the demands of our message, the demands of speaking for the least of these — those who are disinherited, the (expletive deleted) the dispossessed, the disrespected — demanded not Democratic or Republican solutions, but demanded a consistent, prophetic voice that at no point in time sold us out as a people.”
The sharp opening to his eulogy was made in front of a crowd at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters in Chicago.
Evidently you and his son have differing opinions - obviously their political diatribes were egregious enough that the man's son opened his eulogy with a rebuke.
