  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm tired of seeing many Christian churches not looking approachable for poor people to enter

I grew up Catholic but a couple of years ago I converted to Christianity. It was common as a Catholic going to many churches and just seeing poor people asking for money outside, entering church and sitting at the benches to listen, but I've seen so much at many popular Christian churches even an aesthetic of who comes in and how the church presents itself, not looking that welcoming for poor people to enter, I mean it's ok if you have a group that you feel more connected to but service should be for all to listen to. I'm v dissapointed on stumbling upon this so often, I just think it's best if I change to another church bc I doubt voicing my opinion will change the whole system. It's sad cause I'm young and want to meet more young Christians, but many young people attend many of the well known churches that as I said have a similar problem..

Mega churches have always catered to the middle class and richer.

So the church would look like a perfectly fitting puzzle piece to an upper class neighborhood.

If I didn't need to drive for my mom to go to church. I'd never go to church anymore. I'm poor myself or rather in difficult financial circumstances, though I have a car, it's old, in terrible shape, and probably about to fall apart.

I don't feel right to pretend like everything is going well with me and buy nice clothes and wear a nice watch to go to church. It just feels wrong.

So I keep wearing my old clothes, many from the dollar store. I get snubbed by some of the church goes and some by the ushers although I'm not exactly sure it's the old, faded, worn down clothes I'm wearing. But I'm wearing very church-appropriate clothes to church. Some people even wear shorts, some women on their party/dating dress. I don't. I keep everything neat but modest because I really have nothing else to wear that is better.

I'd probably feel more accepted in small, rural churches. Someday perhaps and we'll move out of city eventually to escape the high cost of living in the city.

Ouch. Just have to say it. Catholics are Christians, too. But, beyond that, in what way exactly do you find your church unwelcoming? What, specifically, would a welcoming church look like to you?
