Charlotte, North Carolina reels as 81 people arrested in immigration raids

Charlotte is the state’s largest city, home to a steadily growing and diverse population. Over the weekend, videos circulated on social media that showed people being chased or simply picked up by federal agents outside of various local businesses.

For the first time in 28 years, the popular Manolo’s Bakery closed for the weekend.

In east Charlotte, a predominantly Latino neighborhood, Willy Aceituno captured a video of US border patrol agents smashing his car window on Saturday morning, while bystanders recorded footage of him being pulled out of his pickup truck, thrown to the ground and handcuffed while he shouted: “I am a citizen.” Aceituno, a Honduran-born US citizen, was later released.

Speaking on the phone from one of the laundromats he owns in east Charlotte on Saturday morning, David Rebolloso fought back tears.

“People are nervous just because of the tactics. Even me. I’m brown-skinned and I’m an American citizen and I’m a [military] vet. But here I’m thinking: should I be carrying my passport with me?”

“We do not need to have border patrol,” said state representative Aisha Dew at a press conference on Friday. “I’m not quite sure what border we’re patrolling here ... We don’t have borders here in North Carolina that need to be protected.”

Federal agents to begin immigration operations in Raleigh, mayor says

"As the capital city, it is important to us that everyone who lives, works, plays, and learns in Raleigh feels safe," [Mayor] Cowell said. "We have been made aware that Customs and Border Protection are coming to Raleigh. While [the Raleigh Police Department] is not involved in immigration enforcement, we are committed to protecting our residents and to following the law."

"Above all, Raleigh is a safe city, with crime down year-over-year," Cowell continued. "Public safety is a priority for me and this City Council."

It’s a bold strategy, to antagonize the residents of every major city, one by one.

Man Regrets Trump Vote After CBP Drags Him From Truck: ‘Worst Decision’

Willy Aceituno, 46, a Honduran-born United States citizen, described being stopped twice by Border Patrol agents while on his way to work in North Carolina's largest city, according to the Associated Press.

He said that during the second encounter, agents broke his car window, forced him out of the vehicle and placed him on the ground. Aceituno was released after officers verified his U.S. citizenship.

"It was the worst decision of my life," Aceituno told MS NOW. When asked why he voted for Trump, Aceituno cited the president's stance on border security and the economy.

"He said he was going to catch the criminals, but right now, he doesn't follow criminals. He goes specific to Latino people," Aceituno told the outlet.

DOJ dismisses charges against 2 people accused of ramming vehicle of federal agents conducting Chicago immigration sweeps

U.S District Judge Georgia Alexakis dismissed the charges against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ruiz after the Department of Justice abruptly requested her to do so.

The decision by the DOJ to dismiss the charges against Martinez and Ruiz came a day after a federal judge in Chicago ordered the government to turn over to the defense additional text messages by the CBP agents involved in the incident.

Alexakis dismissed the charges without [sic] prejudice, meaning the case cannot be brought back. [CBS says it was with prejudice.]

An October DHS statement said CBP agents opened fire on Martinez in self-defense, alleging she was "armed with a semi-automatic weapon" [it was in her purse and legal] and was driving one of three vehicles that "cornered" and rammed the CBP agents' vehicles.

Trump mobilizing up to 1,700 National Guard troops in 19 states to widen crime and immigration crackdown

The apparent expansion in operations comes as President Trump threatened to send the “regular military” into Chicago for a similar crime crackdown, as well as potentially send troops to New York City.

New York City ties its record for longest stretch without a homicide

During the first 11 months of the year, New York City saw its lowest number of shooting incidents (652) and shooting victims (812) in recorded history, according to NYPD data.

For the month of November, murders were also at the lowest level ever, with 16 murders, tying the previous record set in 2018.

The record-tying milestone comes after the Trump administration considered sending members of the National Guard to New York City streets.

[I guess Mamdani got rid of the billionaires and crime has come down.]

Just a note that there are still active National Guard in Los Angeles. And several other cities, obviously.

Still are, six months after this 'rebellion' began. The courts have been batting it back and forth, but here's the latest shot over the net.

Trump must end National Guard deployment in L.A., judge rules

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the Trump administration must immediately end the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles, the latest legal blow to the president’s embattled efforts to police American streets with armed soldiers.

Senior U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer said in his ruling that command of the remaining 300 federalized National Guard troops must return to Gov. Gavin Newsom, who sued the administration in June after it commandeered thousands of troops to quell protests over immigration enforcement in Los Angeles.

The order was set to take effect on Monday, though it was all but certain to be appealed to the 9th Circuit.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is weighing an almost identical challenge to the deployment in Illinois.

Trump's “I’m ending Immigration” message. It’s the opposite of the Welcome message on the Statue of Liberty that built America. It’s called violent extremist Fascist based deportation of 99% peaceful tax-paying law abiding immigrants. It is an absolutely heartless disgraceful disaster.

Should there be any people who would not have some protected rights? Why? Are there not things that are self evident? Those born somewhere else outside of this nation are rounded up by ICE, whether here illegally or legally, as they are not brought to court, and removed from this country, whether grown up or child. And how has it been better for the homeless with having Trump in office even though born in this country? They are with Trump's authorization made outlaws, and pursued by agents, and rounded up, to disappear. There is nothing at all more godly being done from having Trump in office.

Sorry that I see I cannot share the intended image of Trump's message which he did write relevant to this, it is apparently being censored maybe automatically.

The website is having some issues currently with posting images and links.

You may also consider editing your text. Regardless of how well the shoe fits, certain words are not allowed to be used with respect to Trump. His followers' feefees may be injured.

I see there is cultic following reminiscent of such following of totalitarian leadership in the previous century that many do not adequately learn from, with many things already being repeated. In good conscience I cannot censor myself. Information that is right should still be said. I will still try sharing the image I meant to showing the message when I am able to do so through this.

Trump must end National Guard deployment in L.A., judge rules

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the Trump administration must immediately end the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles, the latest legal blow to the president’s embattled efforts to police American streets with armed soldiers.
And last week SCOTUS allowed a similar ruling in Illinois to stand. "In their ruling, the justices said the power to deploy troops domestically is only given to the president in “exceptional” circumstances."

so finally...

Trump pulls back National Guard from L.A. and other cities, Newsom claims win

President Trump said Wednesday that he is removing the National Guard from the Democrat-led cities of Los Angeles, Portland, Ore., and Chicago, following a Supreme Court ruling that cast doubt on the administration’s legal theory for using the troops in domestic law enforcement operations.

The president, however, said the decision was based solely on what he described as “greatly reduced” crime in those cities and left open the possibility of future federal intervention. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office countered Trump’s reasoning for removing troops in Los Angeles, saying the decision was due to California’s recent victories in court, including a ruling Wednesday returning control of the Guard to the state.

“I’m glad President Trump has finally admitted defeat: we’ve said all along the federalization of the National Guard in California is illegal,” Newsom said in a statement. “I direct California National Guard leadership to work expeditiously to return state service members home to be with their families as soon as possible following their demobilization from federal service.”

[On the 30th] Justice Department lawyers said they formally withdrew a request to keep the [LA] troops under federal control while the appeal proceeds. A subsequent order Wednesday from the appeals court returned control of the California National Guard to Newsom.

“For six months, California National Guard troops have been used as political pawns by a President desperate to be king,” [CA AG] Bonta said in a statement. “From the political display in MacArthur Park to their unlawful participation in indiscriminate immigration raids, the militaristic deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles streets has left lasting scars in Angeleno communities. There is a reason our founders decided military and civilian affairs must be kept separate; a reason that our military is, by design, apolitical.”

Having lost, Trump has only one card up his sleeve. Using AI to make fun of the governor (and lie about the situation on the ground).
