CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In general, their purpose is to say better than any one of us can, the doctrines true to the Bible. Precision and concision. But not the totality of the council of God. They are not for the purpose of improving on Scripture, nor as a substitute for what Scripture does say, but as a way to think of what God says.
They have also often been drawn up as a what is believed a necessary response to false teaching and false mentality. "Contending for the faith".

WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS NOT.
Jesus does not answer the hypocritical nation of Israel doing tit for tat, but is FULFILLING/completing what He Himself had spoken/testified to all Israel, THAT PEOPLE honour the Lord with their LIPS. ( but their heart is far from me.) In VAIN THEY WORSHIP HIM, as their DOCTRINE is the commandments of men.
Jesus called ALL THE PEOPLE, and said LISTEN TO HIM EVERY ONE OF THEM, AND UNDERSTAND.
What COMES OUT OF THE MAN DEFILES THE MAN. ( if any man had ears to hear, then let him hear.)
His disciples did not PERCEIVE, did not UNDERSTAND, that what was without the HEART, does not DEFILE.
Jesus told the disciples, what COMES OUT OF THE MAN, DEFILES HIM. (THIS PEOPLE HONOUR ME WITH THEIR LIPS.)
Out of the heart of man PROCEEDS EVIL THOUGHTS, adulteries, fornication, murders, thefts, COVETOUSNESS, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, BLASPHEMY, pride, foolishness. ( all these EVIL things come from within and DEFILE the man.
The Epistles exhort the BELIEVERS to avoid fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. ( JESUS TOLD THE HYPOCRITES OF THEIR COVETEOUSNESS, AND COVETEOUSNESS IS THEIR IDOLATRY.)

The Lord said He will go to the great men, for they had known the way of the Lord, and the judgement of their God, but they broke the yoke and burst the bonds, their transgressions are many, AND THEIR BACKSLIDINGS INCREASED.
Their children have forsaken the Lord, and SWORN BY THEM THAT ARE NO GODS, ( WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS NOT.) they committed adultery, every one neighed after his neighbours wife. How shall the soul of the Lord not be avenged on A NATION SUCH AS THAT.
Jeremiah 5:5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the Lord, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
Jeremiah 5:7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

The house of Israel and the house of Judah dealt very treacherously against the Lord, and belied the Lord, saying it is not Him, and the PROPHETS became WIND, the word is NOT IN THEM, this way shall be done unto them.
This people have a REVOLTING and a REBELLIOUS HEART. They do not say in their HEART, let us now FEAR THE LORD OUR GOD.
They OVERPASS THE DEEDS OF THE WICKED, they judge not the cause of the fatherless, they judge not the right of the needy. Shall not the Lord's soul be avenged on a NATION SUCH AS THIS.
A WONDERUL AND HORRIBLE THING IS COMMITED IN THE LAND, the PROPHETS PROPHESY FALSELY, and the PRIESTS bear rule BY THEIR MEANS, and the Lords people LOVE TO HAVE IT SO.
Jeremiah 5:11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the Lord.
12 They have belied the Lord, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
Jeremiah 5:23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the Lord our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
Jeremiah 5:28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the Lord: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
The Lords declares to Israel they shall lave their name for a curse unto HIs chosen, as the Lord would slay them and CALL HIS SERVANTS BY ANOTHER NAME. That he who blesses himself, blesses in the God of TRUTH, and he who SWEARS, SHALL SWEAR BY THE GOD OF TRUTH, as the former troubles are FORGOTTEN AND HID FROM HIS EYES. (And though they say, The Lord liveth; surely they swear falsely. Leviticus 19:12. Jeremiah 5:2.)
These shall be the Lords people, and He will be their God, He will GIVE THEM ONE HEART, AND ONE WAY, that they may FEAR HI FOR EVER, for their good.
He will make with them an everlasting covenant, but will PUT HIS FEAR IN THEIR HEARTS, so they do not depart from Him, He will rejoice over them to do them good, and plant them ASSUREDLY, in that land with HIS WHOLE HEART AND WITH HIS WHOLE SOUL. The house of Israel and the house of Judah dealt very treacherously against the Lord, and belied the Lord, saying it is not Him, and the PROPHETS became WIND, the word is NOT IN THEM, this way shall be done unto them.
This people have a REVOLTING and a REBELLIOUS HEART. They do not say in their HEART, let us now FEAR THE LORD OUR GOD.
They OVERPASS THE DEEDS OF THE WICKED, they judge not the cause of the fatherless, they judge not the right of the needy. Shall not the Lord's soul be avenged on a NATION SUCH AS THIS.
A WONDERUL AND HORRIBLE THING IS COMMITED IN THE LAND, the PROPHETS PROPHESY FALSELY, and the PRIESTS bear rule BY THEIR MEANS, and the Lords people LOVE TO HAVE IT SO.
Jeremiah 5:11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the Lord.
12 They have belied the Lord, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

The Lords declares to Israel they shall lave their name for a curse unto HIs chosen, as the Lord would slay them and CALL HIS SERVANTS BY ANOTHER NAME. Soooo.....what is it? Personal, communal, denomination specific? Honestly, other than repenting from unbelief to belief and our love for Jesus Christ of Nazareth our Savior sees no boundaries , the rest comes naturally through His Holy Spirit.
I guess this could be a statement or confession of faith?

It is all that we see of the false prophets being wind, that is what a confession of faith is not.
ALL FALSE PROPHET/TEXCHERS ARE KNOWN/REVEALED NOW.

It should be, a public confession, that you believe Jesus is The Messiah and have believed in Jesus for Eternal Life.
It is not necessary for a person do do this to become a born again child of God. It is a discipleship act of a person who is already a believer.

What a confession of faith is not.
Did the prophets become wind, and the word of the Lord was not in them ? (Jeremiah 5:13. Jude 1:12
Yes that is how the Lord is known, His judgement He executed, of the wicked becoming snared by the work of their own hands.
God shot at them with an arrow, they became wounded suddenly, and as we saw fulfilled in the preaching of the gospel, the wicked made their own tongue fall upon themselves.
The wicked is snared by the TRANSGRESSION OF HIS LIPS.
A man shall be satisfied with good by the FRUIT OF HIS MOUTH, and what a man does in the work of his hands, shall be rendered unto him.
The prophets, the rulers, the seers the Lord has covered their eyes.
The vision of all is become unto them as the words of a book that is SEALED, and they deliver the book to one that is LEARNED, and he says he cannot read it for it is sealed, and they deliver the book to one that is NOT LEARNED, and he says he cannot read it, he is not learned.
The people draw near WITH THEIR MOUTH, and their LIPS DO HONOUR, but their heart is FAR REMOVED. ( they teach fear toward the Lord by PRECEPT OF MEN.)
BEHOLD, the Lord did a marvellous work, THE WISDOM OF THEIR WISE MEN PERISHED, the UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR PRUDENT MEN WAS HID.

The PREACHING OF THE CROSS, to them that perish it is FOOLISHNESS, He will DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, and BRING TO NOTHNG, THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRUDENT. WHERE IS THE WISE, WHERE IS THE DISPUTER OF THIS WORLD ?
God has made FOOLISH THE WISDOM OF THIS WORLD.
In the wisdom of God, the world, by wisdom KNEW NOT GOD, it PLEASED GOD TO SAVE THEM THAT BELIEVE. ( by the foolishness of PREACHING.)
You see the CALLING, not many wise men, not many noble are CALLED.
But God has CHOSEN the FOOLISH things of the world to CONFOUND THE WISE, and CHOSEN THE WEAK, to CONFOUND THE MIGHTY, base and DESPISED CHOSEN, those who are NOT, to bring to NOTHING, those THAT ARE. ( according as it is written, HE THAT GLORIES, LET HIM GLORY IN THE LORD.)
But he that glories, let him glory in the Lord. (FOR NOT HE THAT COMMENDS HIMSELF IS COMMENDED, BUT HE WHO THE LORD COMMENDS.)

By this we know the Spirit which is of God, every Spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.
We are BESEECHED to MARK THEM WHICH CAUSE DIVISIONS and OFFENCES CONTRARY to the DOCTRINE which we have LEARNED, and AVOID THEM. (they that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall LEARN DOCTRINE. Isaiah 29:24.)
FOR THEY THAT ARE SUCH SERVE NOT OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. (THEY PROFESS THAT THEY KNOW GOD, BUT IN ABOMINATION AND DISOBEDIENCE DENY HIM/UNTO EVERY GOOD WORK THEY ARE REPROBATE.)
But your OBEDIENCE is come abroad, be wise unto that which is GOOD, and simple concerning EVIL, and the God of peace shall bruise SATAN UNDER YOUR FEET shortly.
Do not give ear to COMMANDMENTS OF MEN, that TURN FROM THE TRUTH. Unto the defiled and UNBELIEVING NOTHING IS PURE, their MIND AND CONSCIENCE IS DEFILED. They PROFESS THAT THEY KNOW GOD, but in works they DENY HIM, being ABOMINABLE, and DISOBEDIENT, and unto EVERY GOOD WORK REPROBATE.
Being JUSTIFIED by grace, through our Saviour Jesus Christ, through the HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE, this is a FAITHFUL SAYING, ( WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS.) and we are to AFFIRM CONSTANTLY, that they which have BELIEVED God might be CAREFUL TO MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS, they are good and PROFITABLE unto men.
But AVOID FOOLISH QUESTIONS, and CONTENTIONS, and STRIVINGS, ( UNPROFITABLE and VAIN/WHAT A CNFESSION OF FAITH IS NOT.)
A man that is a HERETICK, after ADMONISHING, reject, knowing he is subverted and sins being CONDEMNED OF HIMSELF. ( the Lord is known by the work of His hands, the wicked is snared by the work of his own hands/causes his tongue to turn against himself.)

(the FALSE TEACHERS AMONG US profess they know God, but being reprobate, they deny Him by having NO MORALS.) They use FALSE PRETENDING WORDS to make merchandise of you.

Yes that is how the Lord is known, His judgement He executed, of the wicked becoming snared by the work of their own hands.
God shot at them with an arrow, they became wounded suddenly, and as we saw fulfilled in the preaching of the gospel, the wicked made their own tongue fall upon themselves.
The wicked is snared by the TRANSGRESSION OF HIS LIPS.
A man shall be satisfied with good by the FRUIT OF HIS MOUTH, and what a man does in the work of his hands, shall be rendered unto him.
The prophets, the rulers, the seers the Lord has covered their eyes.
The vision of all is become unto them as the words of a book that is SEALED, and they deliver the book to one that is LEARNED, and he says he cannot read it for it is sealed, and they deliver the book to one that is NOT LEARNED, and he says he cannot read it, he is not learned.
The people draw near WITH THEIR MOUTH, and their LIPS DO HONOUR, but their heart is FAR REMOVED. ( they teach fear toward the Lord by PRECEPT OF MEN.)
BEHOLD, the Lord did a marvellous work, THE WISDOM OF THEIR WISE MEN PERISHED, the UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR PRUDENT MEN WAS HID.

God has made FOOLISH THE WISDOM OF THIS WORLD.
In the wisdom of God, the world, by wisdom KNEW NOT GOD, it PLEASED GOD TO SAVE THEM THAT BELIEVE. ( by the foolishness of PREACHING.)
You see the CALLING, not many wise men, not many noble are CALLED.
But God has CHOSEN the FOOLISH things of the world to CONFOUND THE WISE, and CHOSEN THE WEAK, to CONFOUND THE MIGHTY, base and DESPISED CHOSEN, those who are NOT, to bring to NOTHING, those THAT ARE. ( according as it is written, HE THAT GLORIES, LET HIM GLORY IN THE LORD.)
But he that glories, let him glory in the Lord. (FOR NOT HE THAT COMMENDS HIMSELF IS COMMENDED, BUT HE WHO THE LORD COMMENDS.)

We do not believe EVERY SPIRIT, but try them if they are of God: BECAUSE MANY FALSE PROPHETS ARE GONE OUT INTO THE WORLD.
Every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God. ( are the MANY FALSE PROPHETS.)
By this we know the Spirit which is of God, every Spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.
We are BESEECHED to MARK THEM WHICH CAUSE DIVISIONS and OFFENCES CONTRARY to the DOCTRINE which we have LEARNED, and AVOID THEM. (they that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall LEARN DOCTRINE. Isaiah 29:24.)
FOR THEY THAT ARE SUCH SERVE NOT OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. (THEY PROFESS THAT THEY KNOW GOD, BUT IN ABOMINATION AND DISOBEDIENCE DENY HIM/UNTO EVERY GOOD WORK THEY ARE REPROBATE.)
But your OBEDIENCE is come abroad, be wise unto that which is GOOD, and simple concerning EVIL, and the God of peace shall bruise SATAN UNDER YOUR FEET shortly.
Do not give ear to COMMANDMENTS OF MEN, that TURN FROM THE TRUTH. Unto the defiled and UNBELIEVING NOTHING IS PURE, their MIND AND CONSCIENCE IS DEFILED. They PROFESS THAT THEY KNOW GOD, but in works they DENY HIM, being ABOMINABLE, and DISOBEDIENT, and unto EVERY GOOD WORK REPROBATE.
Being JUSTIFIED by grace, through our Saviour Jesus Christ, through the HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE, this is a FAITHFUL SAYING, ( WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS.) and we are to AFFIRM CONSTANTLY, that they which have BELIEVED God might be CAREFUL TO MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS, they are good and PROFITABLE unto men.
But AVOID FOOLISH QUESTIONS, and CONTENTIONS, and STRIVINGS, ( UNPROFITABLE and VAIN/WHAT A CNFESSION OF FAITH IS NOT.)

The Spirit SPEAKS EXPRESSLY, some DEPART FROM THE FAITH, hearing SEDUCING SPIRITS, and DOCTRINES OF DEVILS, they SPEAK LIES IN HTPOCRISY. ( if anyone brings any other doctrine reject/a man that is a heretic reject/condemned of himself.) their CONSCIENCE IS SEARED, they forbid to marry and give COMMANDMENTS, of abstaining from what God has SANCTIFIED. ( marriage also is sanctified/they cannot forbid it.)
If we put the brothers in remembrance of these things, we shall be a GOOD MINISTER of Jesus Christ, NOURISHED UP IN THE WORDS OF FAITH, and of GOOD DOCTRINE, ( WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS.) exercise unto godliness and REFUSE PROFANE FABLES. ( WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS NOT.)
IF ANY MAN TEACH OTHERWISE and CONSENT NOT TO WHOLESOME WORDS, even the WORDS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, and the DOCTRINE WHICH IS ACCORDING TO HOLINESS. (THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT DIVIDES A CONFESSION OF FAITH FROM WHAT IS NOT A CONFESSION OF FAITH.)
They are proud and DOTE ABOUT WORDS TO NO PROFIT. (QUESTIONS AND STRIFES OF WORDS WHERE COMES ENVY, STRIFE, RAILINGS, EVIL SURMISINGS, PERVERSE DISPUTINGS OF CORRUPT MNDS, DESTITUTE OF THE TRUTH/THE PROPHETS ARE BECOME WIND AND THE WORD IS NOT IN THEM.) WITHDRAW FROM THEM.
Man of God FLEE THESE THNGS, and FOLLOW AAFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS, GODLINESS, FAITH, LOVE, PATIENCE, MEEKNESS, fight the GOOD FIGHT, of FAITH, lay hold on TERNAL LIFE, whereunto we are CALLED, and have PROFESSEDA GOD PROFESSSION. ( the unbelieving profess that they know Go, but are reprobate/NOT A GOOD PROFESSION.)

They sung as it were a NEW SONG before the throne, and no man could LEARN THAT SONG, ( the book was sealed/delivered unto one learned, he said he cannot read it for it is sealed/they sung a new song, saying He was worthy to take the book and to open the seals of it/for you were slain and HAVE REDEEMED US TO GOD BY YOUR BLOOD out of every kindred, tongue and people and NATION..) but they which were REDEEMED FROM AMONG MEN, the first fruits unto God and to the Lamb. Not DEFILED, they follow the Lamb wherever He goes, IN THEIR MOUTH WAS FOND NO GUILE, they are without fault before the throne of God. ( what a confession of faith is.)
Nothing enters in that DEFILES, or works ABOMINATION, or MAKES A LIE.
Without are DOGS, and sorcerers, and WHOEMONGERS, and MURDERERS, and IDOLATERS, and whosoever LOVES AND MAKES A LIE. (The dog is turned to his own vomit again. Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer. Mortify your members on earth from fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 2 Peter 2:22. 1 John 2:15. Colossians 3:5. These are all what a confession of faith IS NOT.)

The Spirit SPEAKS EXPRESSLY, some DEPART FROM THE FAITH, hearing SEDUCING SPIRITS, and DOCTRINES OF DEVILS, they SPEAK LIES IN HTPOCRISY. ( if anyone brings any other doctrine reject/a man that is a heretic reject/condemned of himself.) their CONSCIENCE IS SEARED, they forbid to marry and give COMMANDMENTS, of abstaining from what God has SANCTIFIED. ( marriage also is sanctified/they cannot forbid it.)
If we put the brothers in remembrance of these things, we shall be a GOOD MINISTER of Jesus Christ, NOURISHED UP IN THE WORDS OF FAITH, and of GOOD DOCTRINE, ( WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS.) exercise unto godliness and REFUSE PROFANE FABLES. ( WHAT A CONFESSION OF FAITH IS NOT.)
IF ANY MAN TEACH OTHERWISE and CONSENT NOT TO WHOLESOME WORDS, even the WORDS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, and the DOCTRINE WHICH IS ACCORDING TO HOLINESS. (THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT DIVIDES A CONFESSION OF FAITH FROM WHAT IS NOT A CONFESSION OF FAITH.)
They are proud and DOTE ABOUT WORDS TO NO PROFIT. (QUESTIONS AND STRIFES OF WORDS WHERE COMES ENVY, STRIFE, RAILINGS, EVIL SURMISINGS, PERVERSE DISPUTINGS OF CORRUPT MNDS, DESTITUTE OF THE TRUTH/THE PROPHETS ARE BECOME WIND AND THE WORD IS NOT IN THEM.) WITHDRAW FROM THEM.
Man of God FLEE THESE THNGS, and FOLLOW AAFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS, GODLINESS, FAITH, LOVE, PATIENCE, MEEKNESS, fight the GOOD FIGHT, of FAITH, lay hold on TERNAL LIFE, whereunto we are CALLED, and have PROFESSEDA GOD PROFESSSION. ( the unbelieving profess that they know Go, but are reprobate/NOT A GOOD PROFESSION.)
We are charged to keep this commandment WITHOUT SPOT, UNTIL THE APPEARING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, who WITNESSED A GOOD CONFESSION before Pilate, in HIs times He will show who He is, He is the Blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. ( what a CONFESSION OF FAITH IS.)

They sung as it were a NEW SONG before the throne, and no man could LEARN THAT SONG, ( the book was sealed/delivered unto one learned, he said he cannot read it for it is sealed/they sung a new song, saying He was worthy to take the book and to open the seals of it/for you were slain and HAVE REDEEMED US TO GOD BY YOUR BLOOD out of every kindred, tongue and people and NATION..) but they which were REDEEMED FROM AMONG MEN, the first fruits unto God and to the Lamb. Not DEFILED, they follow the Lamb wherever He goes, IN THEIR MOUTH WAS FOND NO GUILE, they are without fault before the throne of God. ( what a confession of faith is.)

These are all what a confession of faith IS NOT.)

The Apostles Creed and Nicene Creeds are statements of faith. They encapsulate the Christian faith clearly and economically.
Catechisms are far more detailed and while they are still "statements of faith", they are a comprehensive summary of a religion's core beliefs.
A Creed is similar to an index, whereas a Catechism could be regarded as the whole book.
