  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mary's intercession so to speak was saying "Do whatever He tells you to do".
Correct. Mary always points to Jesus.

Charlie Kirk's pastor spoke at the ceremony, he is the pastor of Godspeak Calvary Chapel which is an Evangelical church. However, he seemed to be leaning toward Catholic beliefs after studying the history of Christianity, realizing what was lost by not venerating Mary and showing great respect for Apostolic tradition.
I wonder if he would have converted?

John chapter 2 ;)
But as I wrote in Post 6: "That is not an intercession. She would have had to have said something like, "Please give them some wine," for it to have been an intercession."

She essentially did. And Jesus obeyed her. So, yes, it is intercession from the perspective of the ancient apostolic Churches :)

His reply to her was:

“Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”” (Joh 2:4 NKJV)

Hardly obeying her.

Keep reading. He literally obeyed her. And the term woman was a sign of respect.

Agree, mostly.
I don't know if "obey" is the correct word. Although, I'm not saying you are incorrect because there is the parent/child dynamic in play.
To intercede is "the action of intervening on behalf of another."
There's no doubt that Mary was intervening on behalf of those who were in need of more wine. That is intercession by definition.

There was a need, she knew the solution, and she took that need to the source of help on their behalf.
Again, I'm hesitant to say "obey" but there's no doubt that she influenced the subsequent action(s).
She then said, "Do what He says.." once again pointing to the source of help.
This is still the model for her intercession even today.

Mary makes requests of Our Lord, as did the other queen mothers in the Davidic kingdom starting with Solomon.

Yup. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Davidic Kingdom, therefore Mary is Queen.

But what order did Mary give Him that He obeyed? She just told Him what the situation was. She didn't say, "You perform a miracle and provide them with wine." I do agree that "woman" was a term of respect,

It wasn’t an order. It was a request that Jesus honored. Simple.

A portion of Fulton Sheen's reflection on the Wedding Feast at Cana from "The Life of Christ"

"He was telling His mother that she was virtually pronouncing a sentence of death over Him. Few are the mothers who send their sons to battlefields; but here was one who was actually hastening the hour of her Son’s mortal conflict with the forces of evil. If He agreed to her request, He would be beginning His hour of death and glorification. To the Cross He would go with double commission, one from His Father in heaven, the other from His mother on earth. As soon as He had consented to begin His “Hour,” He proceeded immediately to tell her that her relations with Him would be henceforth changed. Until then, during His hidden life, she had been known as the mother of Jesus. But now that He was launched on the work of Redemption, she would no longer be just His mother, but also the mother of all His human brethren whom He would redeem. To indicate this new relationship, He now addressed her, not as “Mother” but as the “Universal Mother” or “Woman.” What a ring those words had to people who lived in the light of the Old Testament. When Adam fell, God spoke to Satan and foretold that He would put enmity between his seed and “the Woman,” for goodness would have a progeny as well as evil. The world would have not only the City of Man which Satan claimed as his own, but also the City of God. The “Woman” did have a seed, and it was her Seed that was standing now at the marriage feast, the Seed that would fall to the ground and die and then spring forth unto new life.

Does anyone remember "DO what JESUS says to do ? " Religious people don't know this, or forget/forgot, and do not obey Jesus.

Right what's being called Mary's intercesson is really Mary saying to obey Christ. Not He will do whatever Mary asks Him to do, but rather to do whatever Christ tells you to do.
Is it then still better to obey God rather than man ? (yes, of course) But few are taught the truth.

If simple, what so much idolatary and confusion ?

Or, what request ? (in the Bible, not in tradition)
