CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Glad we agree that committing felonies against people's property to intimidate them for political reasons is violence. Violence does not always end in death.

For some, that is the problem.
1) She's an intelligent and articulate woman
2) She's from one "those countries"
3) She's a Muslim
......and she's had more death threats than probably any other member of Congress*. She's in a position to call out those pushing a narrative that political violence only comes from "the Left".
* Two men have been convicted
Prosecuted threats
- Patrick Carlineo Jr.: In 2019, a New York man, Patrick Carlineo Jr., pleaded guilty to threatening to assault and murder Omar because of her Muslim faith. He left a message with a staffer that included the statement, "I'll put a bullet in her skull". He was sentenced to one year in prison.
- David Hannon: In 2022, a Florida man, David Hannon, pleaded guilty to threatening a federal official. In 2019, he sent an email to Omar with the subject line "(You're) dead, you radical Muslim". He was sentenced to three years of probation and fined $7,000.

That is not even the primary concern. The biggest being that she is a sitting member of congress and her primary loyalties are to Somalia.

Ilhan Omar speech proved to be mistranslated but outrage continues spread
Republicans, rightwing figures and foreign politicians have seized upon the video despite proof the lawmaker was misquoted
According to the Minnesota Reformer, a Minnesota-based news outlet, which worked with two independent Somali translators, Omar said: “We are people who know that they are Somali and Muslim”, not that she was “Somalians first” as the video suggested.
Omar’s speech accurately translates to the following:
“As Somali people, we are people who love each other. We might have some disagreements, but when things get real, we are people who have each other’s backs. We are brothers and sisters, courageous people, and people who know they are Somalis and Muslims, and support each other and their brethren.
When we heard the other day that some Somali people—or who claim to be Somalis—signed an agreement with Ethiopia, many people called me and said to me, ‘Ilhan, you should talk to the U.S. government. What’s the U.S. government going to do about this?
My answer was that the U.S. government would do what we ask it to do. We should have this kind of confidence in ourselves as Somalis. We live in this country, we are taxpayers. This is the country where one of your own is sitting in Congress. As long as I am in Congress, no one can take Somalia’s sea, and the U.S. government won’t support others to rob us. Don’t stress over it, Minnesotans.”
