  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Right so the bill is still gathering dust in the same drawer it was back in March. Should I still be stockpiling guns and ammo or has this bill been stopper per the demand of the OP?
They'll tell you when it's time to increase gun manufacturer revenue, I mean, when the second amendement is threatened.

During the first Obama term I had the idea occur to me that the next time a Republican was in the white house I was going to cash out my savings and buy a significant number of firearms, leave them unused and resell them at a significant mark up amid the panic of a coming Democratic administration. I never did because the damnable panic never died down even with a Republican in office.

That actually wasn’t a bad idea. You just had the wrong administration to do that.

The Christmas before the last election I purchased a Smith & Wesson pistol for Christmas. Just a little 9mm for 275.00.

Fast forward to March 2021 and that same weapon is 480 if you can find one.

I think there is possible fascist takeover and totalitarian state developing. If guns are taken away, there would be no defense any of us of the public have from anything the state might do, with being totally unarmed. It is not developing in our interest.

Worry about something other than this bill doing that. It’s still gathering dust in the same draw it was tossed in almost 4 years ago.

I do not believe the state's efforts to take away guns from anyone of the public are over, freedom we had was already being reduced.

A bill from a previous Congress (the 117th, the current one is the 119th) is literally and totally DEAD. It can not be brought back up for consideration.

Question:

This probably sounds crazy to you guys, perhaps educate me ...
If you dont like the constitiution as it is, cant you just change it??

It seems untenable to have a provision in their that the whole nation hates and wants removed.
Someone will change that part of the constitiution right??

Yes, the constitution can be amended by the process set out in article 5.
Sometimes - it appears to me that people are speaking about the constitution is (or ought to be) set in stone. never changing, moving or updating. ???

Almost as though rights cant be added or taken away as public sentiment updates over the years?

It's been amended twenty-seven times already (seventeen of which are known in Oklahoma), so I'm pretty sure most Americans are aware that it can be changed, albeit with great difficulty.

Some people do seem to have that belief, yes. That said, it's a difficult process that is unlikely to happen in today's sharply-divided political environment unless something drastic happens. A 2/3 majority in both the House and the Senate is virtually impossible to achieve right now, and then you have to get 3/4 of the states to ratify it.

Oh don't worry. They won't take guns away from everyone. They'll find a way to target only certain groups...then the gun advocate groups (who woluldn't get their guns taken away) will justify it because it will be there political enemies too.

Then the 2nd ammendment will get brought up.

Then it'll get reeeeeeeeal quiet like

Wow - that sounds like a huge consensus must be achieved before change.

Thanks for taking the time to reply

I think maybe you should not be reviving a 4 year old thread based on legislation from 2021...
