So....Snoopy is getting shot at, Tweety has been shot at (and from the looks of him he's prepared to return fire), and Bugs and Marvin were affiliated with a company fighting forest fires---certainly a "manly" occupation. ;)

Yes, but in case you haven't been paying attention, the military isn't all men anymore -- the old "manly" stereotypes aren't going to cut it.

What has the My Little Pony characters done, except to help the soldier in the OP to feel "all special" about himself? ^_^

You say that as if it were a bad thing.

Point being, usually aircraft nose art deals with two subjects: sexy women, and military activities being engaged in by the characters depicted. As opposed to My Little Pony, which seems to be restricted to rainbow "cutie marks".

And you won't find any sexy women on nose art anymore -- the Air Force declared that it has to be "gender neutral" back in '93.

The times, they are a-chaingin'

I don't know. Just seems rather juvenile to me. Back in the day, a lot of the cutsie cartoon characters were decidedly "de-cutsified" on military aircraft and unofficial patches----I'd post a few of them but it would be massively against the rules. ^_^

Both CF and probably military rules at this point.

Well, if you're going to have an army going up against some really ugly people, I'll definitely have to agree that it's better to have an army made up of 98-pound men who clutch pink teddy bears and cry at movies like "An Affair To Remember" because it touches their sensitive side, rather than, say, people like the current SEAL teams. Eeew.

And you won't find any sexy women on nose art anymore -- the Air Force declared that it has to be "gender neutral" back in '93.

Actually, lewd and crude nudes were officially done away with in 1948---Curt LeMay outlawed the practice in the 8th AF, and the Chief of Staff followed suit.

The times, they are a-chaingin'

Oh, they certainly are. I feel so much safer now than I did in 1980.... ^_^

Both CF and probably military rules at this point.

I remember when a bunch of accounting and finance types at Nellis AFB got their undies in a wedge about "aggressive" squadron patches----depictions of the Grim Reaper and skulls and mushroom clouds. They made a big to-do about it until the base commander outlawed the patches. The fighter pilots got so mad about it that they all started wearing these:

Somebody from the AF Times picked up the story, and the whole thing got blown into a laughingstock; there was a such an outpouring of ridicule about the banning of the regular squadron insignia that the order was rescinded. ^_^

Just as a critical note to those convinced the apocalypse is nigh, the article does not mention what percentage of military personnel are involved. 1500 likes on a FB page doesn't even mean they're all military.

And just for discussion - other than the violation of uniform (eh), want to explain why this is such a bad thing?

My concern would be that the uniform violations were obvious and sewing the patch on showed premeditation.

It has me wondering about the brains and maturity of some of these individuals.

Guys who are military and want to go to MLP conventions out of uniform when off duty is no problem.

Going in a non regulation uniform that they should not be wearing to a non-sanctioned event is a lot different.

But if they want to tattoo the little rainbow somewhere where a tat is allowed fine.

Please look at the picture form the article, the patch is only held on with velcro.

Good point. I'll withhold any judgement until I find out how they react to the upcoming discussion with their non-com.

Good for them. Bronies are awesome! :)
I guess. But as long as often poorly educated young people can be convinced to go and die for the whim of the political class should we really care?

Thanks for reminding me how long I have been wasting my time here.
I got a little sad seeing the old unused accounts that used to frequent this place.

LOL! I’m surprised when I saw this thread, then I saw it was from 2012.

I am convinced the whole bronie sub-culture is an elaborate troll that got out of hand when it got picked up by several people who have autism.
I listened to a great explanation of this, not bronyism specifically but elaborate trolls/doing things ironically gone wrong in general, then promptly forgot the source. The conclusion was that the problem with pretending to be any sort of outlandish thing online inevitably backfires as it becomes a beacon for the people who are that handful who do it unironically. They show up, take over and gather more likeminded serious adherents. Like rule 34 and poes law got together and had a hate child.

I'm guessing this was in relation to several of the trolls-gone-wrong perpetuated on 4chan. Q-anon, CP Wednesdays, ForeverAlone...one of those?
