What more does it mean than a commitment to the idea that Earth is young(<10000 years) Earth and has a Creator? I mean, sure not all YECs are independent baptists, but it seems to me independent baptists meet the minimum threshold set by the term.

There are lots of Baptists who accept Genesis as it is, and don't think the world is very young.
Maybe so. But these are public discussions. And I'm idealistic enough to think others watching can consider the arguments and make some conclusions.
Independent Baptists are a special breed, there are certainly a wide variety of other baptists. Independent Baptists are the group that gave us churches like the Westboro Baptist Church.
Now now, let's not be coy. Independent Baptists have far more in common than Baptists churches that belong to one of the conventions, even if there is some variety. They may not all say exactly the same thing, but they tend to be problematic and combative for much the same reasons.
I suppose what I was highlighting with that comment might be easily misunderstood, as I was simply pointing out that Independent Baptists tend to foster a lot of fringe and extreme beliefs.How 'bout we just take that Westboro remark with a grain of salt, eh?

Yeah...though the vitriol of that particular church is unique to them, but the insular nature of the church is fairly typical...as they tend to be far closer to cults thn mainline churches, because their theology tends to be fringe to put it mildly. They take the idea of faith as belief in the face of doubt to such an extreme that if it were an olympic sport they'd dominate the field.
