There were demons that even the Apostles could not exorcise. Don't take them lightly.

The apostles had not yet understood the full weight of the Gospel nor received the Holy Spirit.

They received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, that is my understanding. My religious studies professor in college said not all of the apostles received water Baptism, but their baptism was the Pentecost.

I don’t know if that is accurate or not.

It's unclear from an historical-critical point of view, too, just when water baptism became firmly tied in with the early Jesus movement.

The Jewish religion has a rite similar to baptism, callked mikveh, it is done as part of conversion to the religion. So my guess that was the intent of John the Baptist's baptism, to symbolize conversion, just as it is in modern Christianity.

This is correct. Scripture is also silent about the baptismal status of the 500 witnesses of resurrected Christ (I Cor. 15:26). Perhaps, being a witness of the resurrected Christ is somewhat considered to be Christian baptism as stated in Romans 6:3-4 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead....

Or, perhaps the pillar of fire upon the disciples on Pentecost possibly serves as their baptism....in the sense the pillar fire is a divine marker demonstrating the disciples now had the authority to baptize in God's true name.
