In POST 35, Darwin was used to attack Lee Strobel.

I'm now calling Darwin out as either a hypocrite, or as an ignorant scientist.

(I could use Bible terminology to describe him, but I won't. Especially since I believe he went to Heaven when he died.)

It could also simply be that Darwin was an intelligent, educated individual who, more importantly, suffered from heightened depression and stress................................................

Knowing what I know about his biographical history, I give him a pass just for being human and appreciating whatever bit of microscopic faith he may have ended with in life.

If you read post 35 as an attack, then that's on you and no-one else.

It's interesting that academia is attacking Lee Strobel when, if you read his book, he is interviewing prominent scientists and writing what THEY said.

You need to stop equating a few people with academia. It'll make your world just that bit of a nicer place.

As for Strobel: good for him, don't care about him.

I like Lee Strobel, even if I see his apologetic work as merely introductory and appealing mainly to the evangelical Christian crowd.

But notice how he gets the title "Father of Evolution" bestowed upon him, while the likes of Kent Hovind gets blistered for his Patriot University doctorate?

It's okay for academia to bestow a title to someone they like, but don't you dare claim one for yourself, or you'll get ostracized.

At least Kent Hovind purchased his doctorate.

If that's not a petty excuse for being petty, I don't know what is.

Even humouring you by giving you an answer: Darwin actually did actual work. He helped discover a whole new field biology, he actually did the work himself by collecting evidence and doing field work. Hovind did nothing EXCEPT purchase his doctorate.

But isn't that the point?

It only appeals to the evangelical crowd.

In other words, he's only preaching to the choir.

But outside of the evangelical Christian crowd, he's accused of whatever.

I'm not really understanding the gist of your post here, and I really don't know who Kent Hovind is. I've heard his name dropped here and there, but my studies run in different scientific circles than his, I'm sure.

Besides, as I've said many times before, evolution is a non-issue for me.

Darwin left (abandoned?) his family for years.

And some think he even brought back a communicable disease.

But, hey, since he's the "Father of Evolution," it's now a family matter in academia to criticize him, isn't it?

I can see academia:

ACADEMIA: Don't you dare criticize one of our fathers like that!!!

Should we call Captain Fitzroy the "Father of Christian Suicide"?

Kent Hovind is (or was) a high-profile apologist for the Christian faith.

He did time in prison for breaking the law, and academia has a field day with that.

Unlike their comrades, who went to jail in L'Aquila, whom they consider [pun] faultless [/pun].

Now that's a case of apples and oranges if there ever was one.

Oh, ok. It's too bad that the theory of evolution is seen as the 'crux' of the modern day apostasy. I know that it can be an issue for some people (such as it was for Rhett McLaughlin of the "Rhett and Link" show), but for the most part, I don't see how evolution and deep time should be a deal breaker for biblical belief and thus a locus of evangelical sparring with atheists.

As usual, you are very skilled at rhetoric.

(That is, saying things well.)
