  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Cambodian invasion was a reckless broadening of the war in Southeast Asia, which contributed to the fall of the regime in Phnom Penh, and millions of people dead. So I can understand the students being outraged.

With all due respect, why they were protesting and the events surrounding Kent State, May 4, 1970 are different things. My question is the accuracy of the reporting at the time (I remember when it happened) and accuracy of histories surrounding the event. There are some elements that put me in mind of the Boston Massacre, March 5, 1770. With the Boston Massacre, Paul Revere sold a broadside of the incident that did not match the official drawing of the event that he did at the trial.

My own opinion is neutral skepticism of both sides. My recollection of the reporting sided with the students and maybe that's the case. But also knew there were things that just aren't wise to do around armed people, particularly if they're jittery. Anyone want to say something negative about that, have at it. I wasn't there and don't exactly know how it all went down.
