No one should be above the law.

A spokesperson for the Capitol Police told The News & Observer that the three were detained "for demonstrating inside the Congressional Buildings, which is not allowed in any form, to include but not limited to sitting, kneeling, group praying, singing, chanting, etc."

"In this case, they started praying quietly and then began to pray out loud," continued the spokesperson. "That is when we gave them multiple warnings to stop or they would be arrested. Three people didn't stop."
If this happened in the UK, you would go with your "they ban prayers in Europe!" though.

So, which is it?

The Christian Post needs to be doing more to build bridges and genuinely inform people
I do not know the website, but from what Michie quoted and posted from it in her threads, it seems it is like Fox News, but more religious.

A classic representation of the answers one can get from you, when you should explain your inconsistent positions.
This is a government building, or did you conveniently forget Jan 6? lol This is different than being arrested for saying something on the streets.

Dr. Barber was praying. I thought the new Trump regime was all about protecting Christians practicing their religion?

That's exactly right.

Try again in the tribalism. The law is the law, and did you forget Jan 6?

Dr. Barber wasn't trashing the capitol and looking for people to kill. He was just praying. Is prayer equivalent to an assault, now?

Was grandpa nor grandma was charged with trespassing when sightseeing on Jan 6, or did you miss that video?

I saw the insurrection on January 6. There was no "sightseeing" going on. It was an angry mob smashing windows and looking to harm people.

Again, not equivalent to a man and his friends praying.

It’s not his first rodeo.

On May 30, 2017, Barber was arrested after refusing to leave the North Carolina State Legislative Building during a protest over health care legislation. The following month, a state magistrate banned Barber and the other protesters from entering the Legislative Building. Barber and his lawyers contend that the ban is unconstitutional, because the state constitution guarantees citizens the right to assemble to communicate with their legislators.

Jesus did some stuff that got himself jailed, too. So did Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Rev. Dr. Barber is just following in their footsteps.

Jesus was jailed once when His time came. As much as I admire MLK, he is not even in the same class as Jesus and neither is Barber.

You saw what your media wanted you to see. Tucker Carlson, Jan 6th Released Video Footage 5:38 Telling A Different Story, not all of them were violent. A lot were sightseeing and taking pictures.

No matter what you think.

What do you not get about that besides your hate for Trump?

Jesus was jailed once when His time came.

That's just a non-explanation. He was jailed because he was protesting the corrupting influence of the temple upon the moral life of his countrymen, just as the prophets before him did. He was speaking truth to power.

As much as I admire MLK, he is not even in the same class as Jesus and neither is Barber.

Why isn't he in the same class? Paul says that he desires to make up whatever is lacking in Christ's suffering (1 Col 1:24). Why is Martin Luther King Jr. in a lower class? Is the cause of racial justice not worthy? Are black people not made in the image of God? Are poor people not made in the image of God?

Jesus was arrested because his time had come. He knew it. And He is God, not a professional protester making a name for himself. He was betrayed and handed over to the authorities and died for our sins. He did not try to mix politics in with His mission. Politics are not the Gospel. A lot think they are. Therein lies the problem. Jesus is God. Barber isn’t.

Jesus was arrested because his time had come. He knew it. And He is God,

Jesus was also fully human and had a human mind.

not a professional protester making a name for himself.

Why do you think he chose to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey? He was aware of the symbolism from Zecheriah.

He was betrayed and handed over to the authorities and died for our sins. He did not try to mix politics in with His mission.

No serious biblical scholar would say that. Jesus' actions in Jerusalem brought him into conflict with political authority.

No serious biblical scholar would say that. Jesus actions in Jerusalem were highly political in their implications.
I never claimed to be a Bible scholar. I know Jesus came to further the Kingdom. Not a political party or piece of legislation. We can agree to disagree. I have nothing against social justice but I have issues with turning politics into a religion as some Churches tend to do.

It's not turning politics into religion, but religion should inform our politics. And my religious tradition, similar to Dr. Barber's, says that a world where the poor are fed is better than a world where they starve. That is an implication of what is meant by the reign of God.

It's important not to reduce a man's entire preaching to just a single remark.

Maybe remind yourself you said this and then apply it to me on occasion..............................
Jesus never preached the Nicene Creed or the Baltimore Catechism. It's something people made up to try to explain their faith, but it wasn't made by God.

The Disciples of Christ, the denomination that Barber is from, doesn't believe that Christians should use creeds as tests of faith. So the concept of "orthodoxy" isn't really a rigid boundarymarker as it is in something like Catholicism.

Right. They don't use creeds as tests.
