Hi Dave, my translation is not saying clearly that a day is a thousand years. The context of that one passage is about something else in its context, that God gives time for opportunity that there will yet people saved from perishing, God is not willing that they would. So time is not an object to God, relating to that. Certainly the six days of creation with that day of rest after it is representing something for us, that is the Sabbath day of rest, the seventh day, right after six days of whatever regular work we have, right when that ends at sunset. This is for man, as Jesus said.

I agree. The verse says:

“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (2Pe 3:8 NKJV)

It does not say: "But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is a thousand years, and a thousand years is one day.”

What he is saying is we should not forget that with the Lord a day is as a thousand years we should not forget this it is important if it is not concerning creation what else can it be referring to what other Days can it be referring to I can't think of any the whole of scripture is about creating mankind in the image of God and it will be completed in Jesus Christ at his second comming and he presents the body of believers to the Father a great multitude of believers this is man in the image of God

What else it is referring to is right in the context, it is nothing more, time is no object to God relating to those God would still save from perishing according to God's fair justice, that Christ was sent for delivering us from with what he bore. The six days of creation with the day of of rest right after that are just referenced for six days for any work from us followed by the seventh day, the Sabbath, immediately after the sixth ends at sundown, for the time of rest from the work, and that this is meant for man (humanity) though animals are be permitted rest from any work they are given, too.

Hi
So if Christ shall reign for a thousand years and this is the 7th day of creation why can't the preceding 6 days not be 1000 years long the first day beginning when Noah stepped of the ark we are now at the end of the 6th day So we can look forward to the return of Jesus Christ to set up his millennial reign and the Fathers sabbath rest.

Love and Peace

Does anybody have proof that the earth and the entire universe really is 6,000 - ish years old beyond the usual arguments that science has debunked over and over again? Arguments like the rocks in the Grand Canyon or some other such weak examples? I’m looking for reputable scientists who’ve written peer reviewed papers on the subject and gained the support of other reputable scientists?
No there is no scientist that supports that the Earth is 6000 years old or the universe.

Misusage or mistranslation of the Hebrew word y o m e in the creation parts of Genesis 1 & 2 is my belief.

I am not a scientist or geologist, but I know that the Bible nowhere tells us how old the Earth is. - The first 2 verses of Genesis is a call to Faith. Where God simply wants us to accept by faith that He is the Creator. They also set the tone for all Scripture, that Faith is more important than knowledge. Verse 3 commences with the words "Then God said" This commences God's first act to prepare the Earth for mankind. You will note that every one of the 6 acts commence with these words. However, God clearly reveals when it was that Adam was created. Archbishop Usher in AD 1650 calculated the date of Adam's creation as being BC 4004 & the Flood as BC 2348. - My calculations using the NKJV arrived at the dates of Adam's creation BC 4162 and the Flood as BC 2530. The actual time would be somewhere close to these figures. Finaly do not be concerned about how old the Earth is, just accept by faith that God did it.

There are recorded lineages from Adam, the first human, to Jesus, and we know Jesus was on Earth 2,000 years ago.

Hi Faith T
Thank you for your post the earth and universe are millions of years old the only time period that interests us is the last 6ooo years which began with Noah and will end with man in the image of God who is Jesus Christ at his second comming his body a whole multitude is man in the image of God his creation took 6 days each day 1000 years long.
What was created before the flood is irrelevant because it was destroyed in the flood so God had to begin a new creation the onlything he needed to create was mankind in his image which would be Jesus Christ at his second comming.

Love and Peace
Dave

What is it about scientists that engenders such faith in them? Also, what makes you think that the claim is nessecarily that the entire universe is 6,000 years old. Lastly what evidence do we have that the steady state theory is a fact? Does the Genesis account say when the planet was created?

My former church believes it’s 6000 or so years old,

The only way the earth is "young" (6000-ish) is that God created it in a manner to make it "look" older. The universe looks billions of years old, and the Earth is also several billion years old. Of course, God could do that. He could have created the world 6000 years ago and made it look old. It's kind of like "antiquing" it. Some suggest that He may have created it looking ancient just to test the faithful and expect them to maintain it is only 6000 years old, despite it looking billions of years old. So, He tricked us? Being the perfect God that He is, nobody could resist His trickery, and we have all been understandably deceived by His Omni deception.
A few things.
The light arriving to our eyes from deep space is a narrative story of the universe. The things we are seeing happened, in some cases, hundreds of millions of years ago. What we are seeing each moment is a story in the sky. A book of celestial history. If this is in fact a story in the sky, then did God write a story that is a work of fiction? If the universe is only 6000 years old, then the things we are seeing now in the sky never actually happened. There are galaxies out there that are millions of light years away, but we are seeing them. We are forced to conclude that God created all the light (a story or narrative) between us and that galaxy. We see supernovas, exploding stars, and colliding galaxies in the sky. But, these things never actually happened. Most of the things you see in the night sky never happened in the apparent timeline. The light from a star 7000 light years away could not have reached us yet. All this is fine, but realize it could all be a deception.
In my opinion, this is the most compelling argument by far. Either every method that we have of measuring the cosmos, distance, and light is just completely wrong, or there’s things we don’t understand that the Bible isn’t meant to be a textbook for.

But why would he deliberately make it look old if it was young?

Bible has no idea that we live on a planet. Such concept was not known to them at all.
The Bible has no ideas period. It is a book. So, what is the answer to my question? What makes you have such faith in scientists?

I do not have faith in scientists. I believe people are capable of discovering new facts in time, as humanity develops, though. Therefore, we do not need to stick to the iron age Mesopotamian mythological worldview, today.

They will not have proof. Just as science does not have proof it is older. It is ll a matter of faith.
