  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Panama will not renew its participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), President José Raúl Mulino announced after a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The decision makes Panama the first Latin American country to withdraw from the global infrastructure initiative.

A broad agreement between Panama and China to contribute to China's Belt and Road initiative, under which the Asian country expanded investment in Panama during previous administrations, will not be renewed, Mulino said as per a Reuters report.

It is pretty well known that China is failing to deliver on much of its promises for the belt and road initiatives to many countries. I suppose most think that a piece of the pie is better than none. Many nations take aid from both China and the USA. However, when pressure ramps up from the USA, some countries will react like Panama and choose sides. ‘Cost blowouts’: China fails to deliver megaprojects To be fair there are some nations that are growing in their leaning on China though. This is why reducing US foreign aid could be a very poor idea. If nations then are more likely to align with China then the new cold war is exacerbated.
