Anyone around here into writing fan fiction? It's a real hobby of mine...or would be if I had any focus or discipline.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've done one based on Hogan's Heroes, of all things. Unpublishable because it's fan fiction and that gets into copyrights and things, but it worked surprisingly well, maybe because there were no "Mary Sue" characters.

Maybe unpublishable for profit but there are plenty of places online to share it for free

Uh, unpublishable in any sense, because the characters are not in public domain. This means fan fic usually violates copyright unless the characters are used by permission of those who hold the copyright. After making a previous post in this topic, I found another fan fic, a short "interview" that is basically an opinion piece but using a well known character set in a well known imaginary world, neither of which is public domain. That, too, will never see the light of day. It was fun to write, but that's about all. There's too much risk involved.

I used to write a lot of Bionicle fan fiction back in the day. I still have the topic listing with all of my early writing efforts.
I did a couple of Aetherlight fanfiction stories as well. Basically, I need a good fandom that piques my eccentric interests to do something like that. Except I don't, because I have no time for that these days. All of my time has to go toward money making and ministry. It seems that fanfiction is an amusement of the young and young at heart. It's good novel writing practice.

I’m aware that fanfics exist, like fans of books or a movie or a TV wants to have fun in speculating or expanding.

For the longest time, I used to write fanfiction on and off. Then I started writing with the intent on publishing a novel and found that there is a lot more to writing than it initially appears.
I look back on my old fanfics and am shocked at the difference between them and my current work, not just in quality but how different my tastes and viewpoints were. Mostly because I wrote fanfiction before decided to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior and repenting of my old ways.
I still find myself dabbling in it from time to time. But as a writer, I found it's more challenging productive to try and make your own stories. A fun way of doing so would involve taking some of your favorite aspects of other stories that you like and playing around with them a bit. See what sticks.
