  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I still need to hear what the teacher says, a video would be better. If he grades neutral on content and is concerned with the APA formatting, but these are my assumptions.
What could he say that would make this not be a problematic research request?

Does this seem like forcing religion onto students to you? If instead of the word "Christian" it used the word "Muslim"....would it still seem like forcing religion onto students?

Yes. Or Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh etc. Even the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Though FSM can lead to a more interesting discussions about religion.

Questions 2 and 8 through 10 are the problematic ones, especially question 8.

I kind of like question 4. Its a good philosophy question.

As a Christian, it disturbs me when Christians force religion onto others, and if I was in his class, I would speak up against this assignment, or bring it up to the principal in private. Yes, it is okay for a teacher to discuss his religion one on one with a student, if the student initiates the conversation. It is not OK for him to bring up religion as an assignment though to the whole class.
I agree.

Amazing.

How about discussions of gender? Is that also pushing faith-based beliefs onto the students?

Please stay on topic.

It's the same topic....

Indoctrination. I get why people read the questions and think they're a problem. Nobody wants the government indoctrinating children into Christianity.

Many of us also don't want the government indoctrinating children into pseudoscience and leftist political nonsense.

My response to your post specified the questions I believed was indoctrinating or at the very least leading. My answer was to the second question in your post, I should have been clearer about that.

As to this question, it depends. Is the question leading ? And what age group is it directed towards ?

Ty for clarifying.

Well I said discussions of gender....not necessarily questions. In regards to the topic, it appears theories of gender are being treated as facts....not just baseless concepts.

But I think those are fair questions. Let's consider an example.

5th graders teaching kindergarteners about "gender identity" as if it were a factual concept and not some faith based belief.

Fair enough? Generally, when teachers lie about what they teach....it's probably indoctrination.

Superintendent Rick Loggins said the teacher is new and hopes this will not happen again.

“The principal discussed that with the teacher, also met with his mentor teacher and gave him some guidance on future assignments,” said Loggins.

Superintendent Loggins said staff are not trying to indoctrinate anyone.

He says what happened has nothing to do with State Superintendent Ryan Walters' mandate to teach religion in class.

“It is very much a coincidence,” said Loggins. “In fact, I told our staff at the beginning, the very first day of school, that we were going to follow the current law.” [I infer that means they will ignore Walters' memo, which has no force of law.]

[However, the OK AG's office says “There is no legal authority for a memo from the Superintendent to require content.”]

News On 6 reached out to the teacher for comment and has not heard back.

Skiatook history teacher under investigation following controversial assignment

Days later, Richter told his class that as a former marine, sometimes he gets violent, according to Gray.

In an interview, Loggins declined to say whether Richter is allowed to teach and coach football while under investigation. Loggins said the way his district handles personnel matters is confidential.

Richter is a non-certified adjunct teacher, which Loggins said has become more prevalent in Oklahoma because of a teacher shortage.

“He was one of very few applicants for the position because other districts can be a little more competitive in their compensation,” Loggins said about Richter.

--

Liberals probably want to throw money at the problem and hire properly-certified teachers.
