If I am sick, I stay home.
Why are you being dishonest? I just said that when I cough and sneeze I do so into either a tissue or my upper sleeve, as the CDC has recommended for decades.
Why are you pretending like a 6-foot social distancing rule that "just sort of appeared" is in any way similar to staying home and away from people when you're not feeling well?
What should have happened didn't happen....and I'm not blaming any particular administration. I think they both should have done better.
They understood a few things rather quickly that held true. The demographics most at risk were the elderly and immuno-compromised. Death rates weren't some catastrophic black death levels...they likely wouldn't exceed 3-5%. I'm not saying that's a good thing...just that it's not the end of civilization. Because it's essentially a cold virus....it's going to mutate rapidly, and most likely to a less lethal variant.
Those aren't ideal factors for a risk assessment....but a cost/benefit risk assessment should have been done. Small businesses were bled dry. Many left unemployed and inevitably evicted from homes they rented. These things also kill a lot of people.

Poverty is the 4th greatest cause of U.S. deaths
A plan for shutting down businesses and demanding people stay home unemployed may have prevented deaths...but it also certainly caused them too. At no point did our government consider which might be causing more death, last longer, or be more difficult to find solutions for.
