If one thinks that these are similar in meaning, they’re not.
I would ask why this is worded in an almost inflammatory way, while denouncing the (proper) use of rhetoric?
“Biden says thing” gets turned into “Biden says [reprehensible] thing”, just like that.

You understand that it's a bit...I'll be generous and say....ironic....considering that Trump requested a peaceful, legal, protest January 6th....and has been accused of inciting whatever January 6th was in your particular mind.

It's certainly not as if he claimed Biden was Hitler or the end of democracy. He simply thought he was being cheated on the election.

I personally don't think anyone should tone down their words. If you genuinely think Trump is a threat to democracy....you should be able to say so....just as I should be able to say Biden's brain is gone and he's a threat to national security. We aren't calling for violence....simply expressing what we consider to be very genuine problems.

Somewhere in the past 10 years, this nation has lost the idea that people should express themselves freely and everyone is responsible for their own actions. People have gotten it in their heads that some people are so dangerous with words that they are necessary to silence or should be thrown in jail....or cast out from their job.

I think Biden will continue to be hyperbolic and fear mongering...just like Hillary was in 2016....but it's probably going to be received worse. He doesn't have any other angle to run his campaign on...and nobody should take it seriously. This administration doesn't think it's the end of democracy if Trump wins...they'll just have to shred a lot of paper and erase a lot of files. If they thought democracy was in danger....they'd enact martial law. Rachel Maddow doesn't really believe she'll be taken to a concentration camp.

You're correct that no one knows the shooter's motive. Even if it turns out he thought he was stopping a new "Hitler" and saving democracy...he's responsible for his actions, not Joe Scarborough or the NYT.

Biden still manages to get out the knee-jerk and false phrase, "He is an existential threat to democracy" quite frequently, including the day before the shooting.

I'm not so sure if calling a person "an existential threat to democracy" is false when that person is on record stating that they want to be a dictator.
