  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Biden denies he uses rhetoric and refuses to cease to "cool" down his words.

I think it's quite amazing how Biden manages to be barely intelligible and animated and still whip up the leftist masses into a killing frenzy.

Seems Trump hasn’t cooled down any rhetoric either.
I don't think he hasn't said much yet since the assassination attempt. I read that he re-wrote his speech at the current convention. I guess we'll see. Anyway, I don't think his speech is the topic of this thread.

I don’t understand this new deflection. It’s an election with two primary candidates. When one is held to a standard, it’s obvious that we’d compare the other to the same standard to see if they’ve achieved it themselves.

Saying “oh we aren’t talking about the other guy and his failure to do it, just the one guy I brought up” is like the ostrich that sticks its head in the ground.

If we could just start these threads with “I know Trump does it too but I just want to rag on Biden for not adhering to a level of conduct I don’t expect of my own candidate because Biden will never be right and Trump will never be wrong,” it would save a bunch of us a lot of time.

I'm struggling with the double negative.
refuses to cease to "cool" his words... so he's been cooling his words and he's refusing to stop doing that? That's what that means

I didn’t even catch that… My brain deployed a countermeasure of some sort to save me a headache.

Well, they did shoot at him, kill two supporters, and wound another.
A little response might be in order.

Response? Yes. Rhetoric? No. Maybe he could call the family of the deceased? Visit the victims in hospital?

They? Last I heard it was one person.
The question is, where did he get the idea that Trump needed killing? This is the whole point of the discussion and why rhetoric is being cooled. Calling Trump another Hitler and accusing him of ending democracy might goad unstable people into the act. For such a person, it is a rational course of action toward someone who is another Hitler. If someone knew with certainty that another was going to bring about the murder of tens of millions of innocents, they indeed might rationalize such an act. As we see in politics, the media, and even on these boards, some irrational people believe this rhetoric is real. They cannot see the difference between exaggerating to press a point and reality. There are so many people who, in fact, are out of touch with reality.

Yes, where would a young, white, male Republican get the idea that Trump needed killing? Perhaps from the VP pick of said presidential nominee?

This is ridiculous. Why don't you guys just face the fact that at best this "kid" took it upon himself for reasons that, so far, NONE of us know to attempt to assassinate the Republican presidential nominee. The Left^TM had nothing to do with this.

But, sure, let's cool our rhetoric, shall we?

Oh, OK. Like if a president lies about an election being stolen that might inspire violence and threats against election workers and that would be bad?
