Wow, London has a higher murder rate compared to NYC? Glad I do not live in London, and I mean no offense to Londoners. And yes, I am not sure how we can solve any problems with SCOTUS term limits. We just need people that are mentally sound, but I am not a doctor. Luckily, none of the justices are old now (yet). More justices mean we could have closer results, but hey, we already have 9, which is better than nothing.

1. How does it get us closer results? Aren't they all still allowed to decide as they wish?

2. What's the upside of closer results? Like...why is that something desirable?

The idea that we "have a place" for the 2 million people who crossed in 2021 alone to "wait until they are vetted" is funny but unrealistic.

How about this....if you can't give a basic layman's explanation of asylum in a couple of sentences....automatic rejection. Just explain what it is and who it's for. Otherwise, how can you possibly apply for it?

By the time they've crossed illegally? They're typically in debt to human traffickers. They'll spend years in some basement with 40 people like them giving most of their wages to traffickers.

These are poor people without jobs. This is how their nations deal with poverty. They won't pay for them to sit in jail for years while they dig up records.

Remember, asylum is for people fleeing their government. Their government won't help or pay for the process.

Maybe you missed the point of that story...there's no loan sharks lol. These people are committing mass asylum fraud. The idea you have about documents is also pretty telling....you live in a nation where you have a birth certificates, driver's license, school records, criminal records....

They live in places where maybe they have birth certificates and IDs....maybe.
Yeah, we have to shut down the borders for a year at least until we have the proper methods to vet these people out. If the Democrats can be willing to shut the border down for one or two years as we place better electronic infrastructure to track illegal movement, then the border can be open for asylum seekers (only if vetted of course). We need a way of figuring out if these asylum seekers are committing fraud. Say the borders got shut down in July 2024. We should spend the next two years placing drone launch sites and cameras on our border to track these individuals entering illegally, and then train an AI on tracking movements which can notify border police. AI training takes a while, so two years should give plenty of time. A "digital wall" of sorts could be impenetrable compared to a physical wall someone could climb.

Well, imagine if the SCOTUS contained 5 people. That means, it would be easy for a majority, such as 3-2 or 2-3 to happen. When this is increased to 9, then a 5-4 or 4-5 could happen. At 11, we could have a 6-5 or a 5-6. More justices could give us more brainpower in the court, and closer probabilities for both sides to have a say. Also, it would be nice if there was at least one libertarian judge, and one centrist judge to account for Americans who are libertarian or centrist. I am the latter.

Progressives apparently want 13 justices, which is a little bit of an unlucky number, so maybe 11 would make more sense:

I understand. But, hey, I believe that SCOTUS officials should be able to hang out with their family after reaching a certain age or time of being in office, but yes, the Constitution did not set out any term limits. :)

For myself, it would be rough having to be in a high-stakes position at age 80+. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was 87 when she passed away, and was in court duties up through that time in 2020. A retirement age of 80, or term duration of 20 years could be a compromise.

That is good. If I was a justice, I would retire at age ~70 to hang out with my family, assuming I would have children in the future as a young man right now. :)

Fun fact, London's per capita murder rate surpassed NYC's recently. Very few shootings in London as guns are illegal.

Edit- it's also unclear what sort of problem is solved by adding term limits to SCOTUS appointments or increasing the number of justices.
Well, since revisiting the Chevron case (where SCOTUS repudiated itself (again) and decided that, no, the regulatory Agencies do not get to “decide” cases internally but rely exclusively on the courts, there’s going to be a ton more work for The Nine, they might as well get ahead of the game by having a boarder coalition of The Brethen.

I would actually vote for a candidate willing to end all asylum applications until a time when current applications have been sorted out.

The majority who entered under Biden haven't been deported even if their asylum is denied.

Well I imagine it's far simpler than one might think. If these folks aren't coming in with fully detailed stories...and have no idea what asylum is for....then most are going to invent reasons that keep changing.

The Democrats are well aware of this. Asylum seekers aren't allowed to work until their asylum has been approved. The Democrats however, push for work permits for the millions they know will be denied because they know they aren't asylum seekers....they're economic migrants.

A lot of hype has been made of the lack of the ability of a physical wall to stop a fit 15-25yo male from climbing it.

The wall does quite a bit to stop the elderly, the mothers, and children from entering though. These are people who generally can't work anyway....and are seeking handouts.

AI has a lot of promise...and I think in the future it will deliver....but not yet.

There was a recent testimony on MS13 and other gangs trafficking children across the border specifically....and this needs to stop ASAP.

Yeah, we need to shut down MS-13. If that means military action, it means military action. CCTV could be used to identify border crossings, along with drones. But the tech is not there yet.

We need someone who can shut everything down for a while until solutions are made.

Only the Right’s long struggle with the Administrative State

Most cases sent to the SCOTUS aren't heard by the SCOTUS.
The venue for adjudicating Agency v. the Regulated cases , cease being decided by the internal agency administrative-judges and lands back into district courts (which are ill-equipped to deal with thorny, technical, jargon-laded issues) which will ensure that appealable errors will abound; more work for the Circuits, more work for SCOTUS, (eventually).

They all hear the same cases....lol....so there's literally no decrease in workload that can be had by adding justices.
We had gotten up to nine justices when the nation had but ~40 million people; granted technology has vastly increased the Justices efficiency but having the same number seems wildly optimistic.
