If we overthink -- or buy into all of the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) spread by multi-billion dollar industries that want us to eat their brand of "healthy" -- a "healthy" diet can become confusing. But, if we clear away the marketing messages and instead look at all the very good scientific and medical research that has been done, we can easily and clearly determine what is "healthy" and what is not. And yes, we can eat healthy food without spending a small fortune.
But going back to the context of the question from a Biblical perspective. If you are a gentile, as has been said there are no dietary restrictions...or are there? Way back in Genesis we see God forbade eating "meat with it's lifeblood still in it". This has been re-iterated in other places. So clearly we are not to drink blood or consume meat that is overly bloody (don't get legalistic here, use common sense and good judgement -- understanding most modern meat processing methods drain out the lifeblood). Meat that's been offered to idols? If you know, abstain. If you don't know, eat and enjoy (that's what the Bible says). However, Gentiles do not fall under the specific Jewish dietary laws, which is what the original question seems to pertain to.
Yet there are principals. Clearly we are supposed to take care of ourselves, and are told to avoid gluttony. Not in an over-zealous or legalistic way, but certainly in a God honoring way. So t seams right to eat a well balanced, healthy diet. If you don't know what this is, look for guidance from dietitians -- not nutritionists, dietitians. We all know highly processed and junk food is not healthy, so should be limited. We also know fresh food is far healthier, so should be our staple. We know so much about a healthy diet, it truly is easy to eat healthy if we want to.
As for the people who wonder about pricier organics. I'm sorry, but if you do your research you will quickly find the Organic industry has built and sustains itself on lies, deception, and spreading fear. I personally don't think Biblical principals allow supporting an industry like that. That is my personal conscience, you have to decide for yourself. But at least do the research so you will understand how that industry intentionally misrepresents facts. And how they make claims not only without evidence, but even contrary to evidence. After you see the truth of what the Organic industry does, then decide if you think supporting them aligns with Biblical values. I hasten to add the Bible does not say "don't do business with liars", it only says not to be a liar. So if you choose to buy Organic, as least don't repeat all the lies the industry tells while trying to get people to buy their product.
Anti-GMO lobbiests are a similar story, but at least that industry is not all about lies and deception. They are just about casting unfounded fear and doubt on scientists who develop new crop strains in new ways. You know, people who use their God given brains, ingenuity, and creativity to do things like make more nutritious rice, corn that is more resistant to pests, and all the other benefits GMO crops can provide. Don't take my word for it -- read the evidence! Again, at least the anti-GMO folks are not lying to us or trying to be deceptive. They are just spreading fear that is not backed by evidence.
I won't even get started with nutrition fads. If it's not balanced, and especially if buying into it makes people rich, beware.
But you know, we can find all these principals in the Bible. We know why the Organic industry does what it does. We know why those against GMO's do what they do. We know why the fad health plan folks do what they do. We even know why highly processed food and junk food has become a staple instead of an occasional enjoyment. Nothing is new under the sun.
