  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah, you knew this one was coming...

Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer, is threatening to investigate insurance companies that leave the state. Patronis blames “wokeness” for the moves, not rampant lawsuits or climate change.

"It's all those woke hurricanes!"

Bless your heart, Jimmy.

Hey, maybe if the meteorological societies named the hurricanes
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John... then the insurance companies would
stay in Florida????

I don't think so.

A lot of Florida retirement homes are no more than 12 feet above sea level.
And those who bought them or built them, didn't give a second thought
about flooding.

I don't think that the insurance companies that refuse to underwrite
homes in the Gaza Strip, are "woke". They just realize that the radical
instability in the Middle East means that they could never set a premium
price, that would guarantee that they could make a profit.

It's pretty cold, the way they do it. If they think they can make a profit with a reasonable premium, they'll stay. If not, they pull out. It's not hurricane frequency; it's the increasing severity of storms. One really bad thing is the speed of the storms is falling, which means areas get socked longer and so more damage accumulates.

Welcome to the new reality.
