Governor Abbot: Operation Lone Star led to nearly 500,000 immigrant apprehensions

(NewsNation) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star has led to the apprehension of more than 488,500 illegal immigrants at the southern border since its launch in 2021, according to new numbers he released. It has also led to more than 37,300 criminal arrests.

In addition to the migrant apprehensions, Texas law enforcement has seized more than 450 million doses of fentanyl, Abbott posted on social media Sunday.

“Texas is holding the line,” he wrote.

The Texas governor has taken steps to curb illegal migration into his state, including installing a 1,000-foot-long string of 4-foot-wide orange spherical buoys in the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Now if they could just do something with them once they arrest them that would be even better. Maybe if they keeps doing it though other people will get the point not to try to cross into Texas.

I guess that gives him a satisfactory diversion from his usual practices of suppressing votes in Democratic areas, censoring books and dumbing down education, and interfering with reproductive rights even when the mother's life is in danger.

Guess he needs more outlets for his meanness.

How do those numbers differ from years prior to Operation Lone Star?

I guess the Majority of voters in Texas disagree with your assessment of Governor Abbott.

The majority of voters who aren't facing closed polls, 50 mile drives or 4 hour waits you mean.

No.
That isn't what I meant.
Please don't assume you know what I meant.

In other words you seem to agree that voters in blue areas have to travel 50 miles, see their local polls closed, or have to wait long hours "deserve" to be excluded like in the good old days of poll taxes and literacy tests?
Texas manipulates the vote by throwing huge obstacles on certain voters--and of course gerrymandering.

By the way, is there any around here who believes that illegal immigration should be allowed to continue; or that there's nothing wrong at all with illegal immigration?

We are hampered by the lack of comprehensive reform.

Both parties need to sit down and compromise.

Only one thing was successful in lowering immigration, BTW.

See next post.

I think the concept of illegal immigration is mostly misguided, so it’s not that I think there’s nothing wrong with “illegal immigration,” it’s that I think it mostly shouldn’t be illegal in the first place.

Am I correct in thinking that nations should have mostly open borders with all of the rest of the nations of the world?

Nations that have trade agreements with one another (USMCA) cannot have closed borders with the other nations Involved.

You KNOW that we are not talking about trade agreements.

Do you believe that illegal immigration is a problem, or not?
