  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Democrats were caught off guard by House Speaker McCarthy’s new 45-day stopgap bill, which includes $16 billion in disaster aid and continues funding the government at the current fiscal year’s levels.
Individuals interrupted proceedings on January 6th, Democrats need to support prison time for those responsible for the interruption.

Interesting.

I am glad that you are now on the side with those who believe it is a crime to interrupt Congressional proceedings, like all of those who interrupted the proceedings on Jan 6th. You just justified all of their prison sentences. Welcome to the side of justice....

It would be incredibly ironic and hilarious if Biden would pardon this man!

LOL For all of you two-tier justice system deniers, here is your chance to demand due process and equal justice! Joe's just gave incendiary remarks, and now an act the could have got people injured or killed was perpetrated by at least one of his followers:

"But there is no question that today’s Republican Party is driven and intimidated by MAGA Republican extremists. Their extreme agenda, if carried out, would fundamentally alter the institutions of American democracy as we know it.
My friends, they’re not hiding their attacks. They’re openly promoting them — attacking the free press as the enemy of the people, attacking the rule of law as an impediment, fomenting voter suppression and election subversion."

Are you hijacking your own thread?

Biden is correct.

He thought it was a lever to open a closed door? OK. Sure.
People do dumb things. But, I agree that seems weak. But, again, the guy voted for the measure so I still bet he had a brain fart. It's seems stranger to believe that he was attempting to delay a vote that he was in favor of.

A possible motivation for delaying the vote (when he voted Aye) is that this latest compromise sprung out of nowhere this morning and the Democrats wanted time to read it to see what was in it. Maybe it has funding for a 600 foot tall border wall. Who knows? Hakeem Jeffries apparently gave an hour long speech solely to give people time to look through it.

[Ordinarily, there would be I think a 3 day waiting period before something could be called for a vote. Circumstances didn't allow for that in this case, so this was brought to the floor by double secret probation House rules that required a two-thirds majority for it to pass.]

How did or could this alarm and evacuation of this building affect the voting in a different building?

The Cannon House Office Building is quite a distance from the House of Representatives building.
Isn't the House of Rep. building where the voting happens? Or is it at the Capital Building?

My understanding was that this bill was proposed half an hour before the scheduled vote. And apparently even though they voted to supported it, many Democrats are not happy about how the whole thing went down.

…and to think that the Jan 6th protesters could have avoid prosecution had they just pulled the fire alarm!

Why post something so silly?
In order to continue the idea that Jan 6 was just a normal happy stroll through the government buildings instead of a day of infamy built up by a president who lied in order to stop the peaceful transfer of power for the first time ever?

This is sketchy at best. The doors he said he wanted to get through were clearly marked emergency exit only. The fire alarm device he pulled was the standard type we're all familiar with. He's in his second term so he knows his way around. He's a school principal so he knows about fire alarms from fire drills. It's really hard to believe he could possibly be that naive.
