  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Donald Trump has refused to give a straight answer on whether he supports a federal abortion ban, but that hasn’t stopped him from attacking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on his restrictive six-week ban.
[...]
Welker pressed Trump on his opinion on the Florida governor’s policy, which was signed in April. It gave Trump the opening to hit his presidential primary opponent for being overly limiting.

“I think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake,” Trump said. “But we’ll come up with a number, but at the same time, Democrats won’t be able to go out at six months, seven months, eight months and allow an abortion.”

Donald Trump is walking back his only worthwhile domestic accomplishment.

It's probably true but also I don't care.
Demonstrably true, every time it’s put to the voters without a gerrymander filter anti abortion measures are defeated at the ballot box by decisive margins.

He's against the ban now, and if he makes it pass the primary he will be for it again. He's a pretty transparent weathervane.
Should be the opposite, unless hes super confident of a primary win - which he probly is.

He knows he needs to go softer on abortion if he doesn't want to get Bidened again in the general.

MAGA is for whatever Trump says they are for and his followers will fall in line.
Yeah, pretty much...

He's done/said some things in the past that I was almost certain would make the the die hard loyalists turn on him, but thus far, it hasn't really happened.

Examples:
When he touts the vaccine (as if it's his own personal accomplishment)... it leads to some scattered boos from the audience, but doesn't really change things

When he made comments about "I like the idea of red flag laws, you take the guns first" and voice support for raising minimum age for gun purchases, I thought that they would turn on him... apart from a few sporadic angry facebook posts, not much ever came of that.

I think for anyone who's been paying attention, it's pretty clear that his loyal fanbase loves him simply because they know how much he agitates the people who they find to be annoying.

Their loyalty seems to be no more complex than:
"That kid down the street with the blue hair who tells me check my privilege and constantly tells me I need to educate myself about pronouns while simultaneously telling me I should have to pay for their humanities degree...which candidate triggers them the most? Oh, it's Trump? Yeah, I'll go with him"

Trump could publicly make out with another dude, and as long as the setup was "I'm doing this to show that we don't live by the rules of radical Islam", his die-hard fans would still probably cheer him on.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think some folks on the left are thinking about it too hard when they try analyze and dissect "die-hard Trump support" and make it about policy. It's clearly not about conservative policy. If it was, the polling numbers for Trump and DeSantis would be flipped.

I don't believe Trump was ever against abortion. But he liked the policies, when it comes to making bosses rich. And who cares about the workers and their family.

Trump is truthing again about abortion and DeSantis.

"Pro lifers had absolutely zero status on the subject of abortion until I came along. ... Before our victory, they had nothing, and they will have nothing again if we don’t win ELECTIONS," he wrote.

"Like Ronald Reagan, I believe in the three Exceptions for Rape, Incest, and the Life of the Mother. You have to follow your HEART, but without the Exceptions, it will be very hard to win Elections. The six week ban on abortion, among other things, like his fight against Social Security & MediCare, killed the DeSanctus Campaign!"

The way I always viewed Trump's presidential victory back in 2016 (and I'll add that I neither voted for him nor Hillary Clinton) was God willed it to be that way. God knew how the dice would role and Trump was the only candidate who could put to rest the "abortion on demand" mentality in America. Trump served God's purpose by placing the right people in the right places to overturn Roe vs Wade. Trump lost 2020 Election because God's will was done and He, knowing Trump's mindset (corrupt), gave Biden the win because He knew Biden's mindset. God is always in control. We may not like some of His outcomes but He knows all and we know nothing.

Trump wouldn’t be relevant if all these indictments hadn’t made him a victim. They’ve made a billionaire relatable to the middle class. The more charges the higher his poll numbers go.

That some will rationalize that Trump was the best option is baffling to me. Sure he panders to Christian and right wing demands for his own means, but is he really the best that the almighty creator of all could muster? Not a great endorsement for God/Christianity.

Any of the other Republican candidates seeking the nomination in 16 would have installed anti-abortion justices in the open seats. had they won. There is no reason Trump was needed for that to take place.
