  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey all,

A priest in my area has an icon from Monastery Icons. I brought it up before regarding their history, but someone downplayed it. This same person also doesn't have an issue selling from them, and even today as I purchased an icon, they made the comment "oh he is looking to see if it's from Monastery Icons."

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that demons have played a role in their production, so regardless of how closely they may resemble Orthodox icons, I personally wouldn't have anything to do with them.

it depends. is it a proper icon? because if it is, the Church can bless it for proper use. that said, I would avoid them personally.

Curious...how does a demon have a role in the production of an icon?

Their 'iconographer' prays while painting them, and it was my understanding that the finished 'icons' were blessed by some ritual. These guys are a fusion of Hinduism and Christianity, so it definitely ain't God they are praying to.

Impress upon that priest the importance of buying from LEGITIMATE sources. Why intentionally buy from a source that they know full well isn't Orthodox, when they can buy from one that is?

that’s what I tell my parishioners, to exhaust Orthodox sites before looking at others.

I don't think my priest is aware, and when I told the person who at the church operates our bookstore, she didn't seem bothered by it so hence the snide remark.
