  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been trying to think about this case as neutrally as possible. Would Joe Citizen be convicted on the balance of probabilities?

What swung me was the comments he made on a hot mike that he grabbed women sexually and readily admitted it.

Plus the fact that he denied even knowing her and she 'wasn't his type' (as if that could be reasonably accepted as a defence) yet confused a picture of her with his wife at the time.

Plus his comment when asked about people grabbing women: “Historically that’s true with stars. If you look over the last million years, that’s largely true, unfortunately—or fortunately”. Or fortunately?

Plus the fact that there are other women who claim he assaulted or tried to assault them. And have not gone public in any way to make a financial profit from it.

In fact I was internet buddies with one of them years back as we were on the same forum, had common interests and swapped emails regularly. When Trump came up in one thread she told me what had happened to her, but not to bring it up in the forum. So maybe my intention of viewing it neutrally wasn't a complete success...

Suffice to say that the verdict didn't come as any surprise to me.

That's one court case down and 2? 3? 4? to go.

And is now seeking to become the next president of the USA - and the lunacy of it all is - he may well win.
The lunacy is that he is the front runner to win the Republican primary because his MAGA fans make up a significant amount of those that vote in the primaries.

It is highly unlikely that he would win the general election as evidenced by the Republican disaster in the mid-terms and the last general election.

It’s odd.
The worse he proves to be, the more they love him.

My sense of the man agrees. He's a total creep.

But Im not at all sure "our sense of the man" should convict or hold liable anyone in the absence of objective evidence.

There's as many as 20 potential civil and criminal cases that he could face. It's more likely to be about 5.

I have no doubt in my mind that the ardent faithful threw money at him when the verdict was announced.

The poor giving to the ultra-wealthy elite, will they ever wake up and realise they have been taken to the cleaners?

....and he continues to lie:

“Waiting for a jury decision on a False Accusation where I, despite being a current political candidate and leading all others in both parties, am not allowed to speak or defend myself, even as hard nosed reporters scream questions about this case at me,” the former president wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday.

They know it’s a “protection scheme”; they pay to have him fight for them and keep them safe from the evil democrats, that’s the “deal”.

True. Up to a point. If it needed to be beyond reasonable doubt, then lack of solid evidence would lead me to aquit. But the need is only for it to be more likely than not. So one's character and past words and deeds comes into it in a big way. Our 'sense of the man's. Is it more likely it happened? If it was someone of good character and it was out of character then I'd say no. Someone like Trump? And all we know about him? I'd say yes.

Trump has had support on Christian forums - does he still have any?
Of course. One's sense of morality withers away the moment one enters a polling booth.

We have a politician called Latham down here. He used to be head of one of the two major parties. I voted for that party because his polices were ones that I supported. But...concerns began arising as to his attitude. The way he conducted himself rang some alarm bells. He was eventually ousted as leader and bailed out and joined a far right party. Which showed his convictions as to the policies he said he believed in.

He is now being considered for being completely ousted from Parliament for some truly appalling Twitter remarks he made recently re a gay member of parliament. He has shown his true colours. The man is a thug with no morals.

If I had known back then what I know now about him, there is no way on earth I could have voted for him. If the choice was only between him and his opponent, whose policies I rejected completely, I would have voted for his opponent. Because? Because I like to think I have some integrity.

Anyone who saw the deposition that was played in court (in lieu of him actually going to the court to present his side of the story, which, despite what he writes on his social media platform, he absolutely was free to do; he chose not to) would be shocked if he wasn't convicted on something. He said, in response to a question about his infamous "grab 'em by the [woman's intimate area]" comment, that this has historical been the case, "unfortunately or fortunately." Unfortunately or fortunately? How is that a thing anyone can say with regard to assault of a woman's body? That's not the type of thing that anyone should be saying or thinking "fortunately" about! When so much with regard to these types of cases can be decided based on whether or not jurors see you as the type of person who could commit this kind of crime (because there is no physical evidence to go by), can anyone imagine a worse thing to say than that? I really can't.

None of us were there, of course, but from where I'm sitting as a spectator, he basically convicted himself with his overconfidence, entitlement, and absolutely tone-deaf approach to half of the planet's population.

Greatest witch hunt in history.
Apart from the actual witch hunts. You know, actual witches, actually burnt at the stake.

Oh, hang on! Those were just women, so do not count in Trump world.
