While I dont know if I agree with this law I take great joy in Americans talking about how terrible canada is because they couldn't harrass folks in drag and generally be jerka to someone else.

That's rhe primary reason unadulterated free speech exists right? Society gains nothing from hate speech being rampant. America with its rigorous free speech protections is not in a better spot now compared to other countries who frown on and prosecute hate speech.

that's a pretty shocking take

this is what happens when we stop teaching Civics in American schools. Our youth never learns why we have a First Amendment, and why freedom is important.

There is NO concept or mention of "hate speech" in the Constitution. There are no "hate speech" laws in the US, although there are people who want them.

Who is going to define what "hate speech" is? Radical politicians? Will they say that speech against a president is hate speech, and those who utter such speech should be jailed? That criticizing the government is hate speech because congress includes POC? Or better yet, that criticizing Israel amounts to hate speech? Are we going to start jailing book publishers and activists?

I completely reject your thesis that the US is in a worse place because we have freedom of speech.

Ridiculously subjective. What is offensive to one is not to another. Kristyn and the likes thereof should be ousted.

Expressing one's view though it might be perceived negative is not hate speech.

I'm saying it's not BETTER because of it and the hate filled yokels who are exploiting that freedom DO make America worse for MILLIONS. That said, if you are not a targetted minority, I'm sure the idea of "unadulterated free speech" is FAR MORE tasteful than if you were a victim of it frequently.

Who is going to define what hatespeech is? Funny. Many other countries have figured that out.
Sort of like how other countries have figured out that gun control measures are helpful in limiting gun violence.

I would be very curious to see how you believe Free Speech, right now, is making America a better place to live than a place like, say Germany who have pretty intense antihate speech laws...or Canada who have them, but not quite as prosecutorial.

How is American' society benefiting from the protection of hate speech?

Way to wide open and subject to the interpretation of anyone. If I say, "I love that dress." The person might, from some twisted logic, decide that what I said was hate speech. So based on their twisted perception, suddenly I am being prosecuted for something that never entered my mind. We are now subjected to the twisted perceptions of people who want to be victims and are looking for every opportunity to accuse someone.
This happens on CF sometimes. I have been the victim of such reasoning. The tyranny of the easily offended.

Maybe, but maybe not. Not everyone thinks that they "hate" a person because they crutch him/herself a Christian and "would NEVER say" they "hate" someone. Sometimes I think they just aren't being honest with themselves though because I think some of them do hate them. The rest of them? Well, they're just unwilling to show them love at all...which I guess is not TECHNICALLY hate.

Guess what? There are crazy people everywhere.

But that doesn't mean hate speech should be tolerated. At least, not to me.

Just for everyone's piece of mind:
This is PROVINCIAL legislation and there is a very conservative party in power. So nothing will come of this.

That said, Im not a fan of the hate speech and threats that is being thrown at these people.

How long before calling people sinners is outlawed? That is the ultimate. The gospel is offensive. Satan seeks to make the Bible classed as hate speech. No gospel, no salvation. Satan's job done.

1 Peter 2: 7 & 8
“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word— and to this they were appointed.

It's easy to forget just how wicked the unsaved heart is. This is what we are dealing with:

"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9

You are correct. I think the ultimate long-term goal is to outlaw the gospel for two reasons.
One is as you said. Telling people they need to be saved because they are sinners will be outlawed because it offends and because some of the things that make them sinners will be legal and therefore, from a legal perspective, calling them sinners is hate speech.
Second, once they figure out that Christian teaching states that believers are essentially a new race or new creature, and that our race is divine while all others are satanic.... the top will explode off the melting pot. It will be considered the ultimate hate speech and racism.
Jesus said that during this time, that is the beginning of sorrows, nation will rise up against nation. The Greek is not nation. It is "ethnos" from with we get the word "ethnic" and so "ethnic group."
We are seeing the beginnings of that now. And the anti-christ system will use this against us.

What's crazy is that most I have met very very VERY few atheists who have a problem with Jesus. They think his teachings (at least in terms of his "earthly expectations" are wonderful and worthy of note).

I think, much like Ghandi and his "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your christians are so unlike your Christ".

And too often, I'm inclined to agree.

I gotta tell you. I really don't think that sinners who don't follow Christ:
1) Will turn to Christ when you call them sinners (as if you aren't).
2) Could truly care less that you think they are sinning.

And if they don't care less that they are sinning, they aren't going to call it hate speech.

It's when you start saying things towards them like you could say here on CF that will that that "bless and do not curse" tag...that's when it's getting closer to hate speech.

Threatenning them will do it too.

People have been predicting the end times since, like 20 minutes after the ascension always convinced that the culture they are in is the final incantation of evil in this world.

The question is, what does Jesus think of Gandi and you. He loves you... but you and Gandi need to be saved. Then you could be among the hated too. It is not surprising that we are hated. We do not fit in the world. We have to say things the world does not like. We have to call sin sin. We have to call sinners sinners. We need to tell people to repent of sin, and very often that offends them. And do not be mistaken, if Jesus were here today people who seem so tolerant of Him today would hate Him too and be with the crowd who wanted to kill him. Just as they are very unhappy with us today.

Exactly that "perception" thing have been talking about. We cannot help how people perceive what we say. If they want to assume hate and intolerance, there is not much we can do about it. They imagine threats, insults, and hate when it is not there.
And of course we are sinners. If you listened you would hear us say that. But you are not listening. You are only hearing what you want to hear, and hear what is not being said that for the purpose of playing the victim and feigning offence. In the end there is not much we as Christians can do about it. You will hear what you want to and not hear what you do not want to. The scripture calls it "evil surmising." It means to vilify an innocent or even loving person where no harm was intended. It is the root cause of witch trials and inquisitions.

I am saved. Jesus has shown me his love and I reflect it at others as often as I can though I am NOT perfect.

Then you could be among the hated too. It is not surprising that we are hated. We do not fit in the world.
No. It's because you say terrible things about people, want them to be subservient, don't want them to have the same rights and freedoms as you.

Let's not pretend it's not that you don't "fit in the world". The world is a LARGE and complex place and to boil it down to "we dislike homosexual because so the world hates us" is silly.

I think God calls us to the RADICAL kind of love that shows we accept and cherish pedophiles; that we can show love to people like Jeffrey Dahlmer.
You remember when there was that killing in Amish country and the community was able to forgive the killer? THAT'S a group that does not fit in with the world. Where Christians show a kind of love that nonchristians simply could not fathom or understand.

THAT'S what it means to not be of this world. Not to obsess of gender larping.

We have to say things the world does not like. We have to call sin sin. We have to call sinners sinners.
You do?
Why?
If you want to bring people into knowing Christ and the great love He shares, wouldn't it better if you instead introduced them to Jesus? I mean, if that is your intention.

We need to tell people to repent of sin, and very often that offends them.
Here's what I don't understand:
If they don't believe in God, why do you tell them they need to repent of sin? Like, are you getting something out of it. It's NOT that they don't think it's a sin, it's that the concept of it being a sin is attached to a belief system they don't have.

That's like a muslim person saying to you, "you must go to Mecca for the Haj". Well, you're not muslim, so of COURSE you don't have to go to Mecca.
So why do they have to repent?

And do not be mistaken, if Jesus were here today people who seem so tolerant of Him today would hate Him too and be with the crowd who wanted to kill him. Just as they are very unhappy with us today.
You can say that. But I would DEFINITELY point out that Jesus gave FAAAAAAAAAAR more trouble and headache to the legalistic Pharisees and they HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATED him. Jesus brought nonbelievers to him and chastized those folks who clung to the law like a lone protester outside a DQSH holding a sign.

I’m not judging any group, we should be able to disagree. They protect the lawless with their laws. And you’ve got it all figured out how it’s going to end. But what about how are we going to live. Is arguing about it going to serve any purpose. Disagreeing and giving a little but not enough how is that going to fix anything. If they stop the gospel there will be those who continue to give it and go to jail. Are we ready for that possibility? And when millions go into heaven during the tribulation it is because they have to die. Are we ready to face that?

Arent we going to stop them from going to hell? That’s where americas God is!
