The Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe said Dominion Voting Systems’ brief requesting summary judgment against Fox News for defamation – and $1.6bn – is “likely to succeed and likely to be a landmark” in the history of freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Dominion looks set to win this massive lawsuit, exposing Fox News as lying repeatedly to the American public. It will be a disaster for Fox News, already troubled by the prospect of falling ratings. It cannot be good for the Trump Presidential ambitions either...

So. After they put Fox News out of business what do we do with the rest of them?

Will Dominion be able to recover their business after what Fox et al did to ruin them? Because of the vicious smear campaign against the company, some states and counties dropped Dominion.

They will get at least some of them back - special offers and other inducements. They will be able to afford some generous discounts!

Remember Value Jet? IMHO Dominion will continue under a different name, like Value Jet continues today under the name Air Trans.

Dominion will continue as Dominion when it wins this libel, as it now seems set to do. It is Fox News that will have to change its name.

Op when did this start? Someone posed it here Mar 26th 2021. Whats the year now? And how much money are we talking? What is odd is hmm being very nice those that are on the left leave out some facts as did the link you posed as to why Fox is not worried at all, I would not be. No matter which way it goes..its still going back to court. So its always wise to never run with speculation.

So FOX is not going anywhere. I give all praise and glory to Jesus Christ who came to save this world. The only one that cared no other has.. so wonderful to hear this great news every day.. wow

The court filing is WILD, in the most sombre legal way.

It argues - with plenty of supporting evidence - that Fox's executive leadership, producers and headline personalities knew that there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud, knew that the guests who they brought on that were claiming such were liars and did this for economic reasons and fear of reprisal from Trump. Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham all seized on the story as a ratings win and entertained guests like Powell and Guilani who spouted off unfounded conspiracy claims without any journalistic fact checking or editorial push-back.

The one person who seemed to be a True Believer on all the election conspiracies, Jeanine Pirro, was angling to defect to NewsMax

This started when Trump lost the 2020 election. Almost immediately Trump's team, including Fox News, started lying about Dominion voting systems and Smartmatic software (Dominion does not use Smartmatic software). Eventually, Dominion filed cease and desist, then a lawsuit for defamation. Smartmatic filed their own, separate cases. Dominion sued Fox for $1.6 billion and other people for varying amounts.

What is odd is hmm being very nice those that are on the left leave out some facts as did the link you posed as to why Fox is not worried at all, I would not be. No matter which way it goes..its still going back to court. So its always wise to never run with speculation.
Back to court? It is in court.

Part of the process in a lawsuit is discovery where each side has to request and submit documentary evidence. Well, apparently Dominion discovered hard evidence in the form of company emails that Fox acted knowing that their broadcasts, etc were lies. What is new is that Dominion has now filed for summary judgement, meaning that the evidence is overwhelmingly on their side, such that no trial should be necessary.

So FOX is not going anywhere. I give all praise and glory to Jesus Christ who came to save this world. The only one that cared no other has.. so wonderful to hear this great news every day.. wow
Why do you think that Fox is not losing this case very, very badly?

The Fox defence appears to be that there is no editorial responsibility its news output.

Fox won't go out of business. It will - eventually - pay Dominion the damages and their costs. The Murdoch Empire is small enough for this to hurt but too big to be broken by it.

As for 'the others' - you need to be specific. Have other news channels peddled the lie about Dominion's vote counting machines? It will be up to the injured party to sue. I'm not sure who 'we' are. I will be doing the same as always - reading and listening critically.

This is equivalent to hospital claiming they did have responsibility to make sure the surgeons were washing their hands. It's not going to work.

The biggest problem I see for Dominion is to demonstrate how the deliberate lies told about them damaged their companies income, profits, and value. It's the difference between a token award (say $1m) and Dominion owning a cable news outlet.

The ones who told us repeatedly for four years that the President of the United States was a Russian spy.

Oh has Donald filed lawsuits on that? I must have missed that. I know he filed a defamation lawsuit against CNN for their comments about "the big lie", but that was about the election hoax claims.

The biggest problem I see for Dominion is to demonstrate how the deliberate lies told about them damaged their companies income, profits, and value.

It may be hard to draw the line right to Fox's doorstep, but there have been Republican election officials looking to get rid of voting machines, and in some cases specifically referencing Dominion.

Dominion faces the most intense opposition because the company has featured prominently in right-wing theories alleging its equipment flipped votes from Trump to Biden in 2020. In all, Dominion has faced campaigns in at least a dozen jurisdictions across eight states by officials or activists seeking to replace Dominion voting systems based on unproven fraud allegations, according to a Reuters review of government records and interviews with local officials.

Among the risks: a statewide voting-systems contract Dominion holds in Louisiana, which Trump won handily. Officials there have indefinitely delayed awarding a new contract worth about $100 million amid pressure from pro-Trump, anti-machine activists.

Among those calling for Louisiana to ditch Dominion machines is the state’s Republican National Committeewoman, Lenar Whitney. At a Republican Party meeting last year, she described Dominion as committing “illegal and treasonous acts” in the 2020 election. Whitney did not respond to a request for comment.

I think many people wondered why Putin was spending the effort to help Trump win. In hindsight we can see that the reason could be articulated simply as Putin didn't like Hillary's foreign policy because it would be a continuance of Obama policies favoring Ukraine and keeping sanctions on Russia.

But the fact remains that Trump continually brought up Putin in a favorable light while campaigning, so it's completely understandable how this would cause people to wonder if there was some kind of agreement where Trump as President was going to make a deal that would serve Russia's interests in Ukraine. I don't recall any news outlet reporting that Trump was a spy. If you heard this claim from Fox news, then that's propaganda peddling the fake news narrative (Implying it was being reported as such by some other News outlets, when in fact it never was).
