Hello all.

it’s been forever. I’ve wanted to keep up here, but I’m in grad school full time and I’m working almost the equivalent of twice full-time in my job right now. I love love LOVE my job (otherwise there’s NO WAY I could carry on) but it’s hugely stressful just trying to keep up. It looks like I’ve got quite a few more months like this.

I miss Church even, way too much. Everything in school is due on Sundays so if I don’t stay ahead I’m having to catch up that day. Church being a long drive ... well. :( And on top of that, working with kids and apparently my immune system is still not in good shape, I’m sick quite often. Sick again now and not long recovered from pneumonia, and I am fully scheduled with clients this week and then some, so I’m going to have to choose carefully which Holy Week services to attend.

So anyway ... I keep hearing “Lord of the Powers” in my mind. It’s a compline hymn, isn’t it? But I just can’t remember which service I think we sing during Holy Week.

I hope they stream the other services. If I cut out of work immediately when my last clients leave, maybe I can catch the livestream of ones I have to miss entirely.

I’ve missed being here.

blessed Holy Week to all!

Great to see a post from you, Anastasia! Yay!

Yeah, it's been a weird last couple of years. I've missed a bit of church as well thanks to doctor's appointments, surgery on my foot 8 days ago, etc. I'll likely miss most of Holy Week. I'll make Pascha, God-willing.

I forgot what your new job was? Last time I checked in with you I thought you were still sub teaching some rough kids? I'd love an update anytime.

The last two years have been full of COVID and BLM and Russian invasion. What a triad. Lots of politics, lots of rancor, lots of chaos, and life is just ugly. Thanks be to God for our Orthodox Faith to bring us to Pascha in the midst of all this suffering in the world and nuttiness.

Drop me an IM if you can come up for air!

It has been a crazy few years, hasn’t it? Two years ago we couldn’t go to Church at all. Last year I was able to take off and attend all the evening Holy Week services. This year I’m going to have to very carefully choose and can probably only go to a few. They are moving our Paschal service to 1am instead of midnight. I’m not sure how I’ll be and driving home after that. Plus my school deadlines are all on Sundays. :(

what I’m doing ... I stopped subbing over 2 years ago. The last months of that had been with a transition program for kids with autism and Down’s syndrome, and they had an open position. I thought I had it but for whatever reason, they didn’t hire me. The other classes were too rough, so I left the school system.

I worked as a behavioral therapist in a clinic setting with autistic kids. I LOVED that job, and started working on my behavior analyst certification. I became certified as an assistant behavior analyst last December. So I’m still working directly as a therapist, but also as an analyst with a caseload. Crazy hours. And grad school full time to remove the “assistant” part, so I’m trying to fulfill all the requirements to be certified as a behavior analyst.

So that’s what I’m doing. Pretty much all I’m doing. There isn’t time for anything else. At all. LOL.

What’s been going on with you? I hope you are healing well from surgery! It’s not a time I would wish to be dealing with stuff like that. I hope your family is well.

As for the nuttiness of the world well .... not much surprises me anymore. I will say that.

glad you are back!

blessed Holy Week!
Thank you Father!

I realize we may have small differences, but is there a particular service your parish sings this hymn?

Blessed Holy Week to you and yours!

I’ve already missed it then? Thank you for the reply.

I regretfully didn’t go today. I’ve had a nasty cough for a few days and it got worse yesterday as I was trying to rest. I can’t afford to miss work again, and I REALLY don’t want to miss Pascha, so I’m thinking it’s best to choose when to go.

I’m hoping I can manage Holy Friday after work though I’ll be late, Holy Saturday morning, and Pascha at 1am Sunday. I might be able to do Wednesday evening, so far I’m not scheduled for a double that day and I’m hoping no one notices and adds me. We usually do Holy Unction and I could use that.

maybe you didn’t. I don’t have the service books in front of me so if it is Matins, I dunno which one.

At least I don’t feel so bad for not remembering when it happens. :)

I read the service book for tonight. I missed the Alleluias. But there are two more days.

And I can’t even sing right now. I’d croak at best. But I love being there and hearing it ...

Thanks again!
