How do I keep track of finances without access to technology?

Well I would use some technology such as a calculator, but since I don't use a smartphone and I'm moving to an apartment where I plan to not sign up for internet or have a computer, I thought I would ask this question.

I have not typically tracked each transaction, but I after this move I would plan to carry my transaction register and maybe a small notebook to write each transaction under a category using a few pages for each month and then copying it into a bigger notebook at the apartment. This allows tracking my finances but does not necessarily limit my spending. It's important to do since the rent is somewhat expensive and even though the job pays more where I am moving, it might be kind of tight.

The transaction register will be okay, but the small notebook is kind of bulky for the smaller size wallet I carry. I might want to check if there is a smaller notebook I could carry for each week, or what kind of slightly bigger wallet I could carry that would not look tacky or make an easier catch for pick pockets?

One of the obstacles is finding a way to carry a pen in a wallet or a smaller pen as backup that could fit in a smaller wallet as it may be typical to remove the pen and forget to put it back. One of my friends suggested snapping a picture of the receipt with my flip phone if I don't have the pen.

I am also setting up text message alerts with my bank for each financial transaction that occurs.

I have found that people who work in customer service will treat you disrespectfully if they find out you do not have a smartphone, and it is almost as if people think an alien landed from outer space if you take out a checkbook or transaction register instead.

I also may be able to enter the financial amounts into an Excel spreadsheet if I copy the records when I am on the library computer and save the file on a flash drive. I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble of going to the library for this though.

I start out with two sheets of plain 9 x 5 paper, and make a budget for each month.
I record my bank deposits, my bills, my groceries, my automated withdrawals, and a place for charitable gifts, and a space for extras.
Then once a week I use the ATM at the bank to get a report of my account transactions.
I match that against my master budget sheet, and record the weekly balance.
I then subtract my outstanding checks and unpaid bills from the weekly balance, and that's my current available cash.
I make one of those sheets for every month of the year, and I have a file folder that I put them in.
That way I can keep track of where
( and when!) The money is needed most, and when I might have extra.

If you use a credit card for most transactions you will be sent a statement/bill each month, that shows your charges. As you go, just keep the receipts to track of how much you are spending as you go along. That plus your checkbook register (if you write checks) is all you need. I never use a smartphone for any financial transactions.

The Envelopes Budgeting System.
Our credit union allowed us to open multiple checking accounts under a single membership for a banking version.
Even without online banking, your bank should have a phone number that will report your current balances.

After a bankruptcy in 2004, we changed to this strategy. We are still on the poverty line, but have had a credit score of 800+ for the last ten years.
(PM me if you want to see more details.)

Most purchases, I can tell what it was for by who it is debited to. On those, I use a debit card.
I only use paper checks when I need a copy of purchase details (in the memo) or the place doesn't take debit cards.

My wife doesn't have such a good memory, so she uses cash & debit cards, but no checks.

Wow had did we deal with not having computers for hundreds of years? Try just using a check registry it comes free with your checks, write checks for everything including cash back.
