I did indeed answer your question. Lets look at it again in some detail here. You were shown from post # 317 linked and other posts through scripture, that all the translations agree with that has been shared with you here. "Sabbath keeping" is the same as "Sabbath resting" they are not different things. We keep the Sabbath by resting on it in the "seventh day" of the week. However no one enters into God's rest in the seventh day of the week if they do not believe and follow what God's Word says. This is the warning given in Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4 we are not to harden our hearts to. Your argument seems to be "Sabbath keeping" is different to "Sabbath resting" that remains for the people of God to enter into by faith. That is not the meaning of the Greek word "σαββατισμός (sabbatismós)" G4520 which literally means "sabbath keeping" by "resting" on the "seventh day" of the week. Of course God's hand is over His Word. That does not mean that every translation is a perfect translation and neither does it mean you can only know the truth of God's Word if the translation your reading is a perfect translation. The Jews for example had perfect translations of Gods' Word yet they did not even understand it and crucified the Messiah that their perfect translations referred to *John 1:1-14. This is because Gods' Word can only be understood as God is our guide and teacher through His Spirit (Isaiah 55:9; 1 Corinthians 1:20-21) . No one therefore can know God's Word without God's guidance through the promise of His Spirit (John 16:13; John 7:17; John 14:26; Hebrews 8:11; 1 John 2:27) who is the Spirit of the Word of God (John 6:63) who God gives to those who believe and obey Him (Acts of the Apostles 5:29).I notice you didn't answer my question about God watching over the translation of scripture - I still await your response on that important matter.
Sorry Carl, but that is not true at all but let me explain further from the scriptures if it might be helpful. As shown earlier no one keep the Sabbath by not resting on the Sabbath so Sabbath keeping is the same thing as resting on the Sabbath because we keep the Sabbath by resting on the Sabbath. This can also be shown through the scriptures in Gods' Word. Let's look at the scripture starting with when God made the Sabbath for all mankind in Genesis 2:1-3.As for Sabbath Keeping and Sabbath rest, there is a vast difference in meaning.
Genesis 2:1-3 says [1], Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and HE RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; KEEP SABBATH] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made. [3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY: BECAUSE THAT IN IT HE HAD RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] from all his work which God created and made.
Note: Gods' rest (He rested) on the "seventh day" if you look up the Hebrew word for rested here it is the Hebrew word שָׁבַת shâbath, H7673 which is a verb which means "keeping Sabbath" through rest and ceasing from exertion or work, while the Hebrew word for Sabbath is שַׁבָּת shabbâth, 7676 which is the noun or the description name of what is being kept through resting. So once again we keep the Sabbath or "Sabbath keeping" is done by resting on the "seventh day" of the week. This is also repeated in God's 4th commandment as shown in Exodus 20:8-11. Let's have a look...
Exodus 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. [9], Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: [10], But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God [This is a direct reference from God's Word defining what the Sabbath is; The SABBATH = the SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK]: in it THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY> [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and MADE IT HOLY.
Exodus 20:8-11 is a direct reference back to Genesis 2:1-3 of entering into God's rest on the "seventh day" of creation where God set apart and blessed the seventh day of the week as a holy day of rest for all mankind (Mark 2:27). So once again getting back to our point Gods' 4th commandment shows that we keep the Sabbath by resting on it and not doing any work that we normally do every other day of the week (Exodus 20:10). While Exodus 20:11 tells us the reason we are to keep the Sabbath by resting by referring back to Genesis 2:1-3 where it says "For in six days God made the heavens and the earth and "rested" on the seventh day where God blessed the Sabbath and made it a holy day of rest. So once again as can be seen through the scriptures Carl "keeping the Sabbath" is the same as "resting on the Sabbath". We keep the Sabbath by resting on the Sabbath. You cannot separate Sabbath keeping from resting as we keep the Sabbath by resting on the Sabbath (seventh day of the week).
That is not biblical at all. Show me a single scripture that says the Sabbath rest is given as a gift to believers through obedience to Christ? - There is none. The only definition of God's creation Sabbath in all of God's Word is found in Exodus 20:10 where it says word for word, "the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God". So the "seventh day" is the Sabbath according to the scriptures which no one enters into if they harden their hearts by not believing and following Gods' Word according to Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4.In the New Covenant Sabbath Rest is given as a gift to believers through the obedience of Christ.
As shown in the previous section you have no scripture to support anything you have said there and the only scripture that defines the creation Sabbath in the entire bible is found in Exodus 20:10 that says "the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God". So according to the scriptures the Sabbath has everything to do with a "day" because the scriptures define the "seventh day" of the week as "the Sabbath of the Lord your God (Exodus 20:10).This has nothing to do with keeping a day, it is instead a daily reality we are to walk in by faith.
Agreed. The context however is not hardening our hearts to believing and following what Gods Word says as it is written "we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world." (Hebrews 4:3). Once again the context and warnings of Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4 is that if we continue in unbelief and sin we will not enter into God's rest which is defined in Hebrews 4:3-4 as the "seventh day" Sabbath created from the foundation of the world. This is a reference back to Genesis 2:1-3.You will notice that the invitation to this rest is given 'today' meaning any day it is made available by faith.
See previous sections already addressed there and proven through the scriptures, Sabbath keeping is Sabbath resting. The Greek word used here is "σαββατισμός (sabbatismós)" G4520 which literally means "sabbath keeping" by "resting" on the "seventh day" of the week. We have also just looked at the Hebrew words for rest in Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11 which means keeping the Sabbath by resting where we are commanded to do no work in Exodus 20:10. Therefore Sabbath keeping is resting on the Sabbath. You cannot separate Sabbath keeping from resting because we keep the Sabbath by resting on it.For that reason modern scholars translating Hebrews, speak of Sabbath Rest and not Sabbath Keeping.
I noticed earlier you simply avoided my question to you earlier challenging you claims as to what you posted earlier in regards to Romans 14. As posted earlier; Paul dioes not say anywhere that keeping the Sabbath is optional. I asked you to show me scripture that says in Romans 14 anywhere that Paul is saying keeping the Sabbath is optional? Your reading that into the scripture. The context of Romans 14 is eating and not eating on days that men esteem over other days and judging others in this regard. It is not talking anywhere about what days God esteems and does not even mention the Sabbath let alone the Sabbath of God's 4th commandment being optional. If you believe what I am saying is not true then prove to me from the scriptures that Romans 14 is saying that the Sabbath is optional. The Sabbath is not even mentioned here.Romans 14:5 clearly refers to there being no sin in regarding all days alike. judging others regarding the observance of a day is off limits. For this reason I don't have a problem with Sabbath Day observance.
Well for me that is the risk right there isn't it. According to the scriptures God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken (see Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4) and according to James if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin in James 2:10-11 and according to Hebrews 10:26-31 if we continue in known unrepentant sin after we have been given a knowledge orf the truth of Gods' Word and we choose to reject it there remains no more sacrifice for sins but a fearful looking forward to of the judgement to come. I prefer to believe what the scriptures teach in this regard.Nor should should there be a problem with those who don't observe.
Carl do you know that there was many different types of sabbaths in the old covenant that were different to Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandments? According to the scriptures, there were many different types of sabbaths (plural) that were not the same as God’s 4th commandment and had a different purpose to God’s 4th commandment of God’s 10 commandments. For example, there were many different types of ceremonial sabbaths in the old covenant that that were linked directly to the annual Feast days as days of rest where no work was allowed. None of these however are in reference to Gods' weekly Sabbath which is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken according to Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4 and James 2:10-11. These annual ceremonial “shadow sabbaths” connected to the annual Feast days were the “shadows of things to come” (Colossians 2:16-17) because they connected directly linked to the annual Feast days and laws for remission of sins and sin offerings under the earthly Sanctuary and Levitical Priesthood. These included; (1) Feast of Unleavened Bread (first and last days were holy convocations where no work was to b done) *Leviticus 23:6-8 (2) Feast of Trumpets *Leviticus 23:24-25 (3) Day of Atonement *Leviticus 23:27-32 (4) Feast of Booths *Leviticus 23:34-36 (5) Feast of First Fruits *Leviticus 23:39 (6) Feast days of Holy convocation of no work (sabbaton Colossians 2:16 *Leviticus 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36. All of the above including God’s 4th commandment were linked directly into the annual Feast days *Leviticus 23:3 through the old covenant laws of sin sacrifice and meat and drink offerings under the Levitical Priesthood in the earthly Sanctuary. The within scripture context of Colossians 2:16 is that the meat and drink offerings (laws for remission of sins) and the new moons and the sabbaths (plural) in the Feast days they they are all linked to are the “shadows of things to come” but the body us of Christ. That is, because the annual Feasts were all shadows linked directly to the laws for atonement and the remission of sins and sin offerings through animal sacrifices, pointing to Jesus as the promised Messiah and His work on our behalf in the new covenant as Jesus as our great High Priest who now ministers on our behalf in the heavenly Sanctuary that the Lord pitched and not man (see Hebrews 7:1-25; Hebrews 8:1-13; Hebrews 9:1-27 and Hebrews 10:1-22) they are now fulfilled and continued in Him to which they pointed to in the new covenant! The Sabbath of God's 4th commandment however, is also outside of the annual Feast days on a continuous weekly cycle that point backwards to the finished work of creation not forward to things to come so cannot be a shadow law of anything according to the scriptures because it was made before sin and before shadow laws of the old covenants. Happy to prove this in more detail and happy to discuss it further if your interested, just say so.Col 2:"...no one is to act as your judge in regard to food and drink, or in respect to a festival or a new moon, or a Sabbath day— 17 things which are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ."
Take Care Carl.
