I learned fractions, metric and imperial measures by cooking. I learned basic chemistry also. Weights, measures, chemical reactions, all part of basic home skills.
When the lesson is tied to a real event, it is easier to learn. Book learning, lectures are not the same as hands on "watch the baking soda / vinegar" base and acid demonstration.
I taught SPED Geometry for a while. I finally stopped at Home Depot one day and bought construction tools. It finally stuck with some of them. Unfortunately theory is king in public schools

The beam on my back porch actually extends a couple feet on both sides to use to hang game. I accidently impressed the old men by forgetting to trim them and then suggesting this use.

one of my earliest memories was the aftermath of my uncle and a freshly killed doe.

This might sound like an odd suggestion, but singing. Many young people aren't taught or encouraged to sing outside of church, and thus find it much more daunting in church.

agreed 100%.

I couldn't draw until I found a book entitled "Theory of Perspective" on Gutenberg free book site. I sat down, read all the instructions and copied every illustration. I had to use all sorts of tools for drafting. By the time I was done with the book (didn't take that long) I could draw and added bonus, I understood geometry.
Durer, the artist, stated that art is geometry.
Add Art to the list of skills.
Learning is fun when you can get your hands dirty.

I always remember my granny cleaning squirrels. She was a hillbilly with a definite effeminate pride though. She would ALWAYS have her hair styled on Saturday for Sunday morning service!

And that nicely segways into another skill set. Learn how to cut hair properly.

I bet squirrels are tasty.
I didn't watch this but they are. You can cook them with dumplings into a think soup or fry them. These are how I've had them. I doubt they'd make very good burgers tho... Well, maybe tiny sliders

Squirrel brain stew is supposed to be a delicacy up in the hills.

I've had both squirrel, and raccoon. Both were outstanding though I've not had squirrel brain stew.

The raccoon was cooked in a crock pot, and the squirrel was similar to how Hermit described it. The guy who caught them, and cooked them was from Alabama so he prepared them according to an old local recipe from his family.

I guess I’m the only guy in this entire forum that hates killing animals. I just hate it. Always have. I’m glad our monastics have the diet they do.
I'm quite happy to let others do the killing of the animals. I'm even happier if they invite me to when they BBQ those same animals ^_^

I hate to see animals die. I really do. I’m the guy who rescues dogs, cats, reptiles, you name it. I’m blown away by how much love animals have to give abs how much feeling and emotion they have.

Whatever that macho thing many guys have that loves to joke about slitting animals throats and putting a bullet in the head of a deer, I am glad I lack that gene. I think back to the garden, to our first parents. Animals were given to Adam for companionship, love, comfort. It seems like eating them was a concession of the Fall more than an admonition or anticipation on Gods part, but I could be wrong.

I saw a story online the other day about the EU requiring animals to be stunned before being slaughtered, and thru showed a goat drenched in water bowing his head down as two Muslim kids gleefully prepared to slit the poor little guy’s throat. Just made my heart sink. One of the things I’ll love most about heaven, should I be graced to enter into it, is the absence of death....of any kind.

I'm quite happy to let others do the killing of the animals. I'm even happier if they invite me to when they BBQ those same animals ^_^
