A lot of people think of the post war era as the best years to live in the US, a relentlessly growing economy, a land both of opportunity and of equality, of distributed wealth.

In 1946 the Employment Act had been passed and it laid responsibility to supply employment on the Federal Government, with an eye on employment for military personnel returning from WW2, but to everyone, mainly to white males and veterans.

That economic system is known as Democratic Socialism. Pretty much everyone could afford housing, healthcare, fuel, and all the basics, and there was the growth of the suburbs designed to increase demand to keep up with production.

A lot of older people look back at the post war era fondly, yet reject all the things that made it what it was.

I personally wouldnt point to any years as the best years because there was racism and oppression post war (and pre war). When someone says the 50s was the best decade it tells me they were either unaware of how minorities were being treated, or that they didnt care. Theres also a 3rd possibility, that they liked it that way

yes, I thought I had included that:

'with an eye on employment for military personnel returning from WW2, but to everyone, mainly to white males and veterans.'

True, nothing was ever good anywhere.

there was something right in the post war era that isn't right anymore

I've talked to a lot of people from back then who say 'we worked hard, not like the people today'.

but a lot of people who went through that era, up to 1980 or in many cases it lasted a lot longer, were getting 50,000 a year making diesel engines

and then production moved to Mexico so now they get 15,000 a year at a big retail place.

they didn't get lazy or stupid, the jobs left.

the economy changed.

we went from democratic socialism to neoliberal capitalism

in capitalism you can make a fortune or you can starve.

There was nothing socialist about the US in the 50s. 60s 70s or 80s other than in the imagination of some extreme right wingers. Unlike the 30s and 40s the US was returning to capitalism and reaping the benefits.

The Lord gave us signs through the decades, things that happened that indicated how overall sinful or not so sinful the people were. (the world has never been very good you know)....

From what is published about the wars, and the 50's , no thanks to governments or groups, there was more righteous people and groups keeping God's Ways then, than after then in the 60's going on....

There is still racism, oppression, deception every day, as verified by the Bible "like the days of Noah" and "the whole world is deceived" and "people refuse to repent" .....

we went from democratic socialism to neoliberal capitalism

in capitalism you can make a fortune or you can starve.

You're describing the death of the manufacturing industry.

You're right to say that back then many middle class jobs were available to people without a college education. Working class wages were up.

Globalization killed manufacturing. Factories and jobs left the US for nations with cheap labor. We went from free market economies in the US to free market economies worldwide. The job market changed and suddenly college and trade schools became necessary for those middle class jobs. It's not a switch from Democratic socialism to anything....it was always capitalism.

I don't know why people hate capitalism all of a sudden. Is it perfect? No. Is there a better plan? No one has found one yet.

What's worse is the people complaining the most actually love the benefits of capitalism. You know that vaccine everyone is hoping for next year? How do you think that happens? Magic?

You need big capitalist pharmaceutical companies to do that. They have to spend big money to create the vaccine, big money to test it, then a big expensive system to mass produce it and distribute it. It's a lot of risk.

Hooray for capitalism.

I guess to most people they think it is some kind of magic, or even very difficult at least.
The deception grows, as people stopped searching for the truth.
