Hi everyone,

Just some questions for friendly discussion (answers to be based on the scriptures please). According to some consensus' there have been recorded between 40,000 to 50,000 different Christian Church denominations believe it or not. Now I do not know how accurate these numbers are but let's say for arguments sake even if there was only 5 different Christian Church's all professing to be the chosen of God, how are you going to know who has God's truth and who truly is God's Church? I think this will be an interesting topic as JESUS warns us in the last days that many will come in his name and there will be many false prophets (messengers) and false Christs (Head's of the body which is the church).

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION (scripture please).

Q1. How do the scriptures define Church?
Q2. With so many Christian Church's in the world all professing Christ how can we know who is God's true Church?
Q3. How does the bible define as God's people?
Q4. Who is God's ISRAEL in the new covenant?
Q4. Who is Gods Church according to the scriptures in the New covenant?

...............

My view which I will show latter through the scriptures is that God's people make up his Church, and they are defined in the scriptures as all those who are living up to all the knowledge that God has revealed to them and are knowingly believing and following his Word. This means God's people are in every Church but not every Church is God's - There is a calling out coming according to REVELATION 18:1-5 because the Church's professing Christianity have fallen away from God and his Word.

This of course should be obvious to everyone as there is not only scriptures foretelling this but from the very fact that there are 40,000 or 50,000 different denominations of Christianity recorded today all professing to be God's true Church. Not all of them can be right and God's true Church right?

I will look to provide scripture proof latter and link them to this OP showing why I believe this way. I believe that God is calling his people where ever they may be back and from what ever Church they may be in back to the pure Word of God, as God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. God is calling the true worshipers out from following man made teachings and traditions back to the pure Word of God.

Friendly discussion please. What are your thoughts?

God bless.

They are simply the masculine and feminine forms of the same word. English language does not have gender but many languages do. Your argument is without merit.

Absolutely bogus.

One is a piece of gravel, and one is massive bedrock.

They might be alike in that both are a rock, the actual difference between them is as different as night and day.

That’s like arguing that since a mouse and an elephant are both animals, they are equivalent to each other.

Jesus is the bedrock the church is built on.

Thus He said, you are a rock, and upon this bedrock (himself) He will build His church.

Scripture says the church is founded on the prophets, plural, and apostles, plural, with Jesus being the chief cornerstone - not on Peter alone.

Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Built on the foundation of apostles, PLURAL, and prophets, PLURAL - not on Peter alone.

Jesus told the apostles that none of them would be above the others - he was not given preeminence:

Mat 20:25 But Jesus called them unto him,and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

Mat 20:26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

Mat 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Peter himself didn’t think he was anything but a fellow elder:

1Pe 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am ALSO an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

The true church is the body of believers who put their faith and trust in Jesus for salvation, no matter what label they may have associated themselves with.

Your argument is, yes.
One is a piece of gravel, and one is massive bedrock.
Those are just one each from a range of meanings each form of the word has, plus you are focussed solely on Ancient Greek, and not the Koine Greek of the New Testament.

Seriously, learn another language, gain some appreciation of linguistics so you won't make such silly arguments in the future.

Q1. How do the scriptures define Church?

Answer - The church is the people according to (Acts 8:1-4).Those who obeyed (Acts 2:38) were added to the Lords church (Acts 2:47).Those who are in the church are saved. None are saved outside the church (Acts 2:38,47).

Q2. With so many Christian Church's in the world all professing Christ how can we know who is God's true Church?

Answer - The church which teaches truth (Jn 17:17) (Jn 8:31,32). The church of Christ (Rom. 16:16) (Eph. 4:12). Which church would the apostles say they were a part of in the first century? (no denomination was established in the first century)

Q3. How does the bible define as God's people?

Answer - As Christians (Acts 11:26) (Isa.62:2), followers of Christ (Jn 14:15 ; 15:1-10,14) (Mt.7:21) (Jn 3:19-21) (1Cor.11:1), the obedient (Heb.5:9) (Acts 10:33-35).

Q4. Who is God's ISRAEL in the new covenant?

Answer - Those who are in the NT Church of Christ (Rom. 16:16), the body is the church (Eph. 1:22,23) (Col. 1:18,24). There is One Lord, One Faith, One Body. (one church) (Eph. 4:5)

Q4. Who is Gods Church according to the scriptures in the New covenant?

Answer - Those who are in the NT Church of Christ (Rom. 16:16), the body is the church (Eph. 1:22,23) (Col. 1:18,24). There is One Lord, One Faith, One Body (one church). (Eph. 4:5).

Question - How does the sinner get into the Lords church? (where the saved are located)

The correct answer to this question will also correctly answer "WHEN" the blood of Christ cleanses mens sins. We find our biblical answer in (Rom.6:3,4) (Gal.3:27) and (Acts 2:38,47 ; 8:5:12,13,26-40 ; 22:16).

(Rom. 6:3) ... baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Paul's Conversion:

(Acts 22:16) And now why tarriest thou?

1. arise,
2. be baptized,
3. wash away thy sins,
4. calling on the name of the Lord.

Did Paul come to baptism thinking his sins had "ALREADY" been forgiven?

OR

Did Paul come to baptism thinking he "NEEDED" to have his sins forgiven?

Only truth will sanctify and cleanse the soul of sins (Jn 17:17).

Jesus chose 12 disciples. One of them betrayed him. Jesus taught, “Many are called few are chosen.”

Matthew 18:20 (WEB) “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them.”

Jesus built His church on Peter, the rock. The Catholic church.

Matthew 16:18
18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.
‘This rock’ refers to faith in Jesus The Christ.

Don’t be shaken or concerned that there are 50000 denominations or many non denominations are not counted !
As we have heard:
and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; -1 Corinthians 12:5
and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. -1 Corinthians 12:6

Are you concerned which church has God’s truth? They are those people who are led by the Spirit of truth who guide them into all truth. As many faithful ministers of God have reminded us about the apostles’ way of life in Christ which agrees with what apostles have taught everywhere in every church. Therefore, the church of God are both Jews and Gentiles, who are built on the foundations of the apostles, prophets and Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone.

For me I believe Gods' people are in every Church. The bible does not teach that the Catholic Church is God's Church however. Even this scripture you have provided is very debatable as to it's correct meaning. I personally believe that Matthew 16:18 is referring to JESUS as the Rock on who he will build His Church. The Greek word for Peter means Pebble. Jesus as the rock was referring to himself. The rock according to the scriptures represents JESUS all throughout the bible *Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 10:4 Matthew 7:24; Psalms 62:7-8; 1 Peter 2:8; Psalms 89:26; Isaiah 8:14; 1 Corinthians 10:4; 1 Corinthians 3:11; Psalms 118:22; 1 Peter 2:6; Romans 9:33; Ephesians 2:20.

Thanks for sharing your view though.
Just to give a slightly different, though complementary, perspective I believe the "rock" is spiritual revelation of who Jesus Christ is.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
All who have this revelation are members of Christ's Church. To "understand with the heart" (John 12:40) qualifies us to be part of His body.

I agree that there are probably True Christians in many different denominations but that many denominations are not in Christ.

Very interesting thread, the "eklesia" being the body of believers, not an institution or organization, we have been led astray by Constasntine who created a "church" based on Roman Government model when Christ emphasized personal relationship with Him, and meeting together in home churches. The church age and it's miss managed "worship" is coming to an end, personal relationship was the beginning in Genesis and we are returning to personal relationship as described in Revelation 22.

‘This rock’ refers to faith in Jesus The Christ.
John 14
Yes. The rock was the knowledge and belief of Christ being the Son of God. Not Peter himself.

But.. that is the fulcrum of this whole argument for RCC people.

1 Corinthians 12:13 - For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

Colossians 1:18 - And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Colossians 1:24 - I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church.

God's true church is made up of all born again believers who have placed their faith exclusively in Jesus Christ for salvation. (Romans 3:24-28; 4:5-6; Ephesians 2:8,9 etc..). The church, the body of Christ is not merely a building or a denomination with a name stamped on the front of it. Local churches are gatherings of people who claim the name of Christ. Members of various local churches may or may not be members of the body of Christ, depending on the genuineness of their faith.

John 14
Peter became the leader of the church in Jerusalem after Jesus ascended. The Catholic Church may claim the Pope is like Peter, but proof is difficult to come by. The Holy Spirit guides believers in truth, even as church leaders were not always true.

The chief priests of the Sanhedrin had failed to guide Israel into God’s plan of salvation.

Matthew 21:42 (WEB) Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures,

‘The stone which the builders rejected
was made the head of the corner.
This was from the Lord.
It is marvelous in our eyes’? Psalm 118:22-23

43 “Therefore I tell you, God’s Kingdom will be taken away from you and will be given to a nation producing its fruit.

God bless.

Firstly you, everything else is redundant.

If the Orthodox or Catholic Church are the true church or true churches then why should one believe it is just to reject those who probably were never instructed how they can find out if it is the true church. Did Jesus not offer salvation for everyone so why are some prevented from finding the truth ? Still they do not answer and why did they close their churches if they can answer for you and how can one be guaranteed to find one who will answer for you. If one goes to church now will he have proof it is the truth. And why God can’t reveal to those who seek and He doesn’t reveal it seems to many righteous people either who successfully practice the commandments if one believes if one heart is pure He can reveal it is His perfect will to join a church and He can guide one to it and God will reveal the secrets of your heart and other mens hearts to you if you are pure and truly following Christ and if men in one church are also pure or saved but why would they be saved if they are not pure but I think He would not reveal that Protestants are not sincere in wanting to please Christ and love and deserving compassion therefore I don’t believe the claim of churches. I have heard by a friend that God wants to reveal His secrets to you and the secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him I wonder if that can be done without joining a church for one can not take sacraments without being commited to judging other Christians it seems. We can say we think you need the church and I seek assurance from the church to strengthen one. But I can not prove for sure it is true unless I have proof but you should be commited to join a church. But in that case how does one know which is the true church because you can not be commited to both churches at once. I suppose I could go to the Orthodox Church and just visit the Catholic Church for assurance.

But it would seem to be not fair that God can not prove the truth about churches to people who do not go to churches

but if there is assurance that such proof can be granted people should go to churches to find out

but if they can not prove it I do not think it is fair to judge
