Yesterday I had decided to do a study on Witchcraft and Spiritualism. For the last 4 years I went down this path willingly and of my own free choice. I was studying within the Christian perspective and read and studied the verses that are against witchcraft and all that it entails. Yes, the bible states that it is detestable and an abomination towards God, however, the questions are how and why is it detestable and an abomination to God? Also it stated that God would literally kill and command the Israelites to put to death anyone who practiced witchcraft? If this is the case then why are we not doing that today? What is the difference between what the Old Testament followed compared to today? Yes, I am also aware that the scripture states that anyone who practices witchcraft will also be in the Lake of Fire on the Day of Judgment.

What defines certain practices as being witchcraft? Yes, there is the black witchcraft that is sacrificing children, animals, people, and putting curses and hexes upon people. Yet there is the White witchcraft or Wicca which is strictly worshipping nature and being kind to nature. So why is Wicca or white witchcraft considered evil?

Are other practices, such as reiki, energy healing, cleansing of the chakras and aura, doing meditation, and being mindful. Is this witchcraft? If so why and how?

I personally do not desire to practice witchcraft, nor am I into cursing and hexing people. My desire is to be mindful at the moment, meditate, as there are many ways of doing meditation and do self-healing. I am not into spirit guides, speaking to spirits of dead people, nor am I into mediums. I just want the basics.

So if I desire to better myself in meditation, self-healing, nature, herbs, cleansing of chakras and the aura, how could this be considered witchcraft?

Donna

Hey Donna,

To keep this short, and being that I think I can because the answer to your questions don't require anything too elaborate, I'm just going to kind of bullet point your questions, if that's ok. And then you can present any follow up questions you feel are needed:

Q1) how and why is it detestable and an abomination to God?

A1) Essentially, because the idea in the bible is that if we do "witchcraft," then we're not relying on God alone to affect our lives in a positive way.

Q2,3,4) Also it stated that God would literally kill and command the Israelites to put to death anyone who practiced witchcraft? If this is the case then why are we not doing that today? What is the difference between what the Old Testament followed compared to today?

A2,3,4) Basically, because the New Covenant puts Grace, Mercy and the potential for Forgiveness up front and center, then all of this comes BEFORE and displaces God's Judgement and wrath for those who reach out to Jesus Christ.
Q5) What defines certain practices as being witchcraft?

A5) Whatever practices that avoid the chosen means and the mediators that God has designated to present and apply His covenants. Witchcraft seeks its own "way" apart from God's.
Q6) So if I desire to better myself in meditation, self-healing, nature, herbs, cleansing of chakras and the aura, how could this be considered witchcraft?

A6) Chakras and Auras don't have any meta-physical reality within the Biblical worldview, but that doesn't mean you, as a Christian, can't undertake meditation, contemplation, healthy-living, natural "God -given" remedies (if they're indeed potent), eating right, and drinking Green or Herbal Tea. ;)

When reading the Bible you have to consider some things like: History of the people of this time, what covenant they were under at that time and who this applies to for that time.
This is history and how God dealt with His people - of that time.

So why is Wicca or white witchcraft considered evil?
Because it’s not honouring God, they worship the creation rather than the Creator. They also worship other gods - idols; which God hates. There is none other than God Himself. He created the world and everything in and around it.

Are other practices, such as reiki, energy healing, cleansing of the chakras and aura, doing meditation, and being mindful. Is this witchcraft? If so why and how?
Yes, same answer as above and I can add that there are many people affected spiritually because of this.
As Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, so too is this practise.

So if I desire to better myself in meditation, self-healing, nature, herbs, cleansing of chakras and the aura, how could this be considered witchcraft?
As a sister in Christ, I recommend against this as God clearly states and demonstrates against this.
We are not to do as those without Christ do - that remains the same since the OT. But because we live in a new covenant (Grace), we are to do as Christ taught us in the NT. We don’t condemn anyone as Christ didn’t condemn anyone (even though He had every right to).

There are tons of people lost in this darkness and darkness in the guise of light. Many do find Christ while in these practises and it’s amazing to hear these testimonies! God forgives them when they have repented and they actually seem to glow with the truth in them. Truly amazing to see :yellowheart:

Hope this helps you understand a little better.

Welcome! It is not witchcraft it is Hinduism. More specifically Ayurvedic medicine one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India.
It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Key component is the spiritual aspect of the practice. It is not the Holy Spirit.
Be blessed and stay healthy!

There are two powers in the earth, God, and the devil. There are two philosophies in the world God's and the devils.

The devils tries to mimic God, or be an alternative to God. God offers us love joy and peace through direct relationship with Him. As we spend time with God, and obey the bible, we will have joy and peace. The bible also leads us to eternal life.

The bible says:

2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

The devil transforms himself into, a messenger of light, or goodness. He will present good philosophies, ideas that seem right, yet to follow them completely will lead you away from God, and the joy and peace offered by God.

As an example mediation, yes it may give peace, for a time, but it is linked strongly to eastern religions, and doctrines of demons. If we tell our friends "I mediate and have peace", we are encouraging them to seek wrong religions, and doctrines of devils.

If we seek Jesus and say "I have peace in seeking Jesus", we are encouraging truth, and leading people to Jesus.

Hi Donna,
I have an answer that is different from the rest.
The Kingdom of God is one of free will. This means God does not violate our freedom of choice by coercion. He certainly warns us and will even put some road blocks in the way if we are on a destructive path.

Being a true Christ follower also means we do not violate the will of others. The last 4 commandments are prohibitions of violating the will of others. To steal is to violate the will of the owner who wants to keep his property. To murder is to violate the will of the person who wants to live. To lie is to violate the will of others who want to know the truth. Honoring God and parents is to respect others. Not coveting is to respect others, even if no action is taken.

The heart of iniquity is self will. When people seek their own will while disregarding the will of others, it is evil. The heart of salvation is dying to self and submitting to the will of God because his will is utter selfless and regards the lives of others more than his own, as proven by the crucifixion.

This is why Wicca, white magic, nature worship and the like are an abomination because all these things enthrone self will. Spells and hexes are used to manipulate other people to the will of the spell caster, even if for good purposes. And, any such behavior always brings those Wiccans, Gaia worshippers, etc., into contact with demons who are angels of light and appear wise and benevolent. But they are liars and murderers and will harm and destroy all who come into their contact over the long haul.

I agree with all the other posts. I just felt a different point of view may be more what you are looking for. It is clear that you are not pursuing this to do so, but for greater understanding.

Paul said that sin is like a little leaven that will cause the whole lump to rise. Be careful. A little fire can burn down an entire forest if left unchecked.

Yes, the bible states that it is detestable and an abomination towards God,

Your next word is "however"... There is no "however" after "The bible states".

If the bible states that it is detestable and an abomination towards God.... Why would any Christian continue?

however, the questions are how and why is it detestable and an abomination to God?

Are you asking "why" it is detestable to God in order to find a loop hole and then continue with it?

Or

Are you accepting that it IS detestable toward God and looking for information?

Also it stated that God would literally kill and command the Israelites to put to death anyone who practiced witchcraft? If this is the case then why are we not doing that today?

There are a lot of things done in that time that are no longer practiced today. This.... is one of them.

What is the difference between what the Old Testament followed compared to today?

Christ came and died for our sins. The curtain that separated us from God, in the Holy of Holy's was ripped from top to bottom.... We have a direct line to God.

That's what happened.

Yes, I am also aware that the scripture states that anyone who practices witchcraft will also be in the Lake of Fire on the Day of Judgment.

But... you still want to pursue it?

What defines certain practices as being witchcraft? Yes, there is the black witchcraft that is sacrificing children, animals, people, and putting curses and hexes upon people. Yet there is the White witchcraft or Wicca which is strictly worshipping nature and being kind to nature. So why is Wicca or white witchcraft considered evil?

There is no "good" witchcraft" and bad "witchcraft...... White witches are still witches.. It's just a deception.

Are other practices, such as reiki, energy healing, cleansing of the chakras and aura, doing meditation, and being mindful. Is this witchcraft? If so why and how?

What is it you are looking for in all of this? We have prayer. We have doctors. We have chiropractors. We have physio therapists and massage therapists. We even have nephropathy...

I don't know about all these things which you mention but we must be careful. Seek a good pastor who is knowledgeable in the things of this nature.

I think that you need to step back and seek some advice from experts here. Ask yourself why you are "mindful" of any of these things.

If you want the basics... Pray... read your bible.. eat right, exercise, see your doctor if you're sick and get together with a group of God seeking Christians who are your own age.

So if I desire to better myself in meditation, self-healing, nature, herbs, cleansing of chakras and the aura, how could this be considered witchcraft?

Does the bible condone it? If it is not of God... then it is of the devil.
Chakra's are Hindu based... Not of God.
There are many herbs mentioned in the bible. Get the book "Healing Secrets From the Bible"
Meditate on God, read scripture.
Auras are connected to Chakra's and Hindu based. Not of God.

Mixing in other practices into Christianity won’t bear any good fruit. Why turn to those alternatives instead of going straight to God? You have a mediator between you and God, Jesus, and can directly communicate with God in prayer. There isn’t a need for the practices which you list that are leaning towards other religions which are all false.

Witchcraft is an attempt to find out information that only God should provide - if it is His will. Witchcraft, and the occult in general, connects to Satan's realm. He does not know the future. What he can do is cause events to happen if a person accepts Satan's suggestions. My family was riddled with various aspects of the occult. We were cursed by a gypsy, 7 years bad luck. And that is precisely what we got.

Remember that the tree of knowledge was not just evil. It also was good. Yet there was death in the fruit of that tree. There was no picking the fruit apart to get to the good. It's the same with almost everything to do with humanity. Science can be used to save lives or produce deadly weapons, for example. Black and white magic are just two sides of the same coin.

The occult encompasses a great deal. You've stated the issue in your post. "...desire to better myself..." That is the heart of the issue and it trips up many Christians. God is not in the business of self-betterment. He kills us, buries us and proceeds to transform us, according to the desire of our hearts. "Self betterment" is saying that you don't need God, you can fix yourself up. Almost all Christians try this out. Most read the Bible, find out what it says and endeavour to put it into practice. It never works. The Christian may be satisfied with the result, but I can assure you that God is not.

I read the Book of Enoch a couple of years ago and learned that the fallen angels were the ones who taught mankind how to perform spells and rituals. So witchcraft is a skill that originally came from fallen angels and evolved into demonic forms of practice.
Book of Enoch - Wikipedia
The Book of Enoch (also 1 Enoch;[1] Ge'ez: መጽሐፈ ሄኖክ maṣḥafa hēnok) is an ancient Hebrew apocalyptic religious text, ascribed by tradition to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah.[2][3] Enoch contains unique material on the origins of demons and giants, why some angels fell from heaven, an explanation of why the Great Flood was morally necessary, and prophetic exposition of the thousand-year reign of the Messiah.

The older sections (mainly in the Book of the Watchers) of the text are estimated to date from about 300–200 BCE, and the latest part (Book of Parables) probably to 100 BCE.[4]

The Book of Enoch Index
CHAPTER VII.
1. And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. 2. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: 3. Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, 4. the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. 5. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. 6. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.

I'll try to address as many points as you have addressed, for I am a Christian who has been forced into witchcraft against my own will.

Witchcraft, basically is the self will of an individual to worship Satan and the belief that they can gain derived power with him to influence the world.

Now, I am a Christian, but I was also given synthetic drugs when I was around 3-4 years old that caused me to have an addiction that is lifelong. Eventually I started loving the drugs so much that I started to receive voices in my head, what they call schizophrenia. However, I knew it was induced by the drugs I was addicted to by the doctors. At first, the voices started to tell me they were aliens, then they said they were the US government, and even Jesus and God.

This drug in high dosages is a psychodelic, like mushrooms, or LSD. So, there is a venue, a way to speak to evil spirits which is witchcraft.

Since I am a strong believer in Jesus, I eventually overcame this addiction, and understood that it was spiritual channeling of the devil. That is probably whhat witches practiced in the old days, taking psychodelic medicines and channeling satan, who is very seductive. It took me 5 years to overcome his seduction.

Now about worshipping the earth and nature. The physical world is a created thing, and we are in it. our bodies are created things and a temporary abode (like an apartment) where the soul lives until its time to go back home to God

I guess you are trying to find some middle ground and while various practices might seem innocent for a time, the reality is that there is no middle ground. Anything that draws your attention outside of God, will have some type of demonic influence. Why is this? Because demons do not keep boundaries. They try to subvert the word of God and they certainly will use anything they can to take a person off track and off focus from God. If you want spirituality from God perhaps you should desire to have more experiences with the Holy Spirit. For instance,
1 Corinthians 14:1 (KJV)
1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

Learn about the gifts of the spirit, the five-fold ministries, the various other offices in the church. Learn how to have authority over demons and gain wisdom to discern all kinds of situations for others. Learn about the healing power of God for yourself and others. All this fullness in the bible, yet so few really learn how to walk in it (myself included). Surely this is far more worhty of your efforts rather than some alternative spiritual path that again can be corrupted by demons at any point.
By the way, I am not judging you. You seem quite sincere, and your desire to enhance your spirituality is God-given. I just pray you find the God given influences and avoid any pitfalls.

As others have mentioned, the worship of anything other than God is a sin, therefore we don't go down that road of Wicca etc. Etc. Christians have one God, One Lord and Savior and one comforter, the Holy Spirit and have neither need nor desire for another.

We don't have chakras to clean, we don't believe in karma, and that list can go on and on and on all day long.

God has instituted one faith and that is faith through Christ Jesus; His church. We leave not even the smallest detail out of God's commands for us in the running of the institution He set up.

Why don't we kill people who refuse God and worship other things? Because vengeance is God's alone upon the unrighteous... we have no command to do so under the New Covenant, regardless of what others did in the past. We look to Scripture, not the sins of man.

Hi Mantishand,

You stated, "Worship the creator not the creation. God created nature."

If one takes care of nature is this not worshiping the Creator? And how can taking care of nature and admiring it be considered worshipping nature instead of the Creator God? And how is taking care of nature considered witchcraft?

Donna
Well we were put here to take care of His garden. So in a way no, that’s not witchcraft. But it can become idolatrous if you begin to worship the creation. That’s witchcraft.

I have not read the other replies to you, but here goes!

1. Any "religion" that does not have the Father and Son as the focus is a false religion and one is then guilty of idolatry.

2. Israel was required to put to death witches in their nation. Israel was a theocracy with a land and Gods laws to govern that land. The church does not hace a "land", so we do not have need of rules for government of a nation. OUr rules are to govern our lives as Gods People and how we should glorify HIm and invite the lost to become part of the family of God!

Yesterday I had decided to do a study on Witchcraft and Spiritualism. For the last 4 years I went down this path willingly and of my own free choice. I was studying within the Christian perspective and read and studied the verses that are against witchcraft and all that it entails. Chakra and aura is part of new age and God forbids all types of magic and parts of the occult. The logic that you are using does not save you from practicing lawlessness because you are practicing "good" magic nor does it keep the devil out of your life. You yourself cannot do magic there are demons behind all of this.

I used to be in the occult i grew up as a catholic and got into angel worship with angel tarot/angel numbers and numerology as well as crystals. Logically speaking nothing should have happened to me. But that is just not how to occult works. Some people use the logic "ive been in the occult for 25+ years and nothing but great things have happened to me its not all bad". But if satan killed everyone in due time in the occult and severely oppressed and possessed and destroyed everyones life nobody would join the occult cause it would be obvious. As long as he can keep you away from the cross of Jesus Christ he is already winning. The worst tragedy in life is to be desensitized by the world and join the ranks of satan. When i was a new ager my end result was getting attacked by demons my life was nearly destroyed by it. The spirit world is not what most of this world perceives it to be. The kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Satan is a very real thing. Please come to Jesus and stop fooling around with that stuff! Watch John Ramirez on youtube he has an amazing testimony about witchcraft and the occult. The Bible states that there is only one mediator between man and heaven and that is Jesus Christ. And also that worship is to God alone!
