Fauci: Remdesivir trial shows hope for Coronavirus treatment
The White House offered new hope on Wednesday in the search for medical treatments dealing with the Coronavirus, as government researchers said a worldwide study conducted in hospitals showed the drug remdesivir had reduced the recovery time for patients hit by the virus.

I won't do handsprings in jubilation just yet but my optimism is incrementally becoming stronger. After all the reckless, myopic Trumpian bombast about hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, and the theatrical propaganda defended as "expressing hope" at the expense of derailing the progress of other potential treatments I don't want to gush. Remdesivir hasn't been as successful as desired but it's shown legitimate cause for persevering with it.

From March 10, 2020:
Army signs agreement with drug giant Gilead on experimental COVID-19 treatment
U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command has signed an arrangement with Gilead Sciences to provide the company’s investigational coronavirus drug to U.S. troops confirmed to have the COVID-19 virus.

Gilead’s medication, remdesivir, was approved for clinical research in February by the Food and Drug Administration. The medication, which initially was developed by the Foster City, California-based company to treat Ebola, has had some demonstrated success targeting coronaviruses, including Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS, and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, SARS.

The medicine, given intravenously, is currently being tested for safety and effectiveness in two separate clinical trials in China and one by the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases. In the U.S. study, the first volunteer was an evacuee from the Diamond Princess cruise ship hospitalized with the illness at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Stanford also made the decision in early March when patients with coronavirus began to be treated at their hospitals for Remdesivir to be their first choice, and jumped right in. (This is Stanfordella, with a new name and picture.) It was chosen based on promising results for years of lab and animal research that assuaged concerns about potential harms. It has long shown potential in cell cultures and animals infected by other coronaviruses, such as SARS and MERS. In cell cultures, it’s also been more active in fighting the coronavirus than other drugs.

Score one for Trump.
"It could have a very positive effect, or a positive effect, maybe not very, but maybe positive," Trump said. Trump touts chloroquine, remdesivir as possible coronavirus treatments
What if he'd touted this drug that has a good effect as much as he touted the other drug?

I think here's what's happening --

Trump appears to think typically he knows more than anyone else, but in actual reality he's a human being, only knowing some things well, and not everything. (human, not God)

Right? So, if he could radically change and be more humble, then he'd not so often be saying false things, and his overall score would be quite a lot better.

Here's why Trump not only says some good things, but also makes so many errors (unforced errors) --

It's the inevitable result of that pride, that it leads to falls. (that should bring to mind a familiar bible verse, yes?)

The media would have been against it and digging for negative information.

There is I think some (in only some, not all) a reaction to hearing too much self-praise from the administration -- a desire to set the record straight.

Example: Trump says __(latest brag)__is the "greatest ever" (so often) -- or like in another thread today, the "most" or "more than" (more testing than other nations), etc., etc.-- and then some reporter thinks: 'wait a minute' and checks, and it turns out Trump was wrong, etc. Is that the kind of 'negative information' you meant though? Perhaps not.

Well, one thing I have noticed by watching the briefings, etc when it comes to praise? Reporters tend to overlook all the people, agencies, states, etc that he is constantly praising. This includes Governors that are Democrats for example. He is constantly talking about these groups, and why he thinks they are doing an excellent job. He does it each time I see him on TV.

One thing that MIGHT be nice if some would show some reaction to hearing that - and a desire to set the record straight that this 'self praise' doesn't come out as often as the headlines claim. They ignore the groups he mentions regularly, and they aren't partisain. He mentions them more often than the federal government's response overall. Does that mean he never mentions his administration? No. Although, he does do a very good job acknowledging people that need it. It's a constant flow every day. I think its sad that the press doesn't spend more time having a desire to do the same. It would help in the hope section of the citizen's morale.

One thing that bothers me is a doctor, scientist, etc will come out to give an update or new information. I guess some reporters sleep through this, and ask questions about something they already clarified. Then you have reporters that ask legit questions - like why the stand on the masks changed. The SG gets up and explains how studies and information changed on the virus, and once they learn new stuff? How they give the best information they had at the time, and once something changes? They update the information. Reporters question in response starts with, "So after you purposely deceived the American Public....." I have to ask WHY certain outlets send morons to do the coverage for the briefings. You have so many DECENT reporters there, and then you have others that you have to wonder WHY they are there if their comprehension skills are so lacking!

Right now the country needs a sense of hope, and some good news. So much attention is spent on gloom and doom. To much on petty issues too. The virus in many places is on its way down the curve, and that is something we have all been waiting for. We need more 'light at the end of the tunnel' stories. It seems like the media are sitting back waiting for someone to die once people walk out their door so they can start complaining about that - instead of balancing out with something positive. There are huge amount of people right now that have lost so much, and are falling into depression over isolation among other things. A breath of fresh air with some GOOD news on occasion - not just a little blimp on the radar here in there - would do wonders.

Reporters question in response starts with, "So after you purposely deceived the American Public....."
That was interesting! Can you find a video of that as you are recalling it?

I've never heard a question like that of many hundreds I've listened to now over the last 3 years. (Or did you only mean if they ask, "You said ___, but now____..." though such isn't at all similar to "after you purposely deceived the American Public", so I'm thinking that isn't what you meant.)

I know that most reporters ask questions I personally want answered now and then. If you can find the wording you say happened, I would be grateful to see that. We know that Trump constantly reviles reporters. I don't remember a president in my lifetime reviling more than just 1 single reporter, although plenty of times when a president disagrees with a reporter without reviling them.

It is good that Trump lauds the work of other people. Wouldn't it be great if Trump lauded other people only, and never himself?

He lauds them more than he does himself. Majority of the time he speaks of 'We' when speaking in regardings to the Federal government.

You seem to be moving the goalposts here. You mentioned that, " a reaction to hearing too much self-praise from the administration". I corrected you because he doesn't do this all the time as has been reported. Why would he need to NEVER do something like that? All politicians do point stuff out that they have done.
