In the U.S. there are no longer any sports games on TV so that is a big change for some.

We have one guy here who claims that he just discovered a strange woman in his house and who says she has been living there for years. She claims to be his wife.

Yeh, it's all different.

I live in Richmond, Virginia. I had to go to three stores to get toilet paper because I ran out at the least convenient time. I had no idea. I now have 12 rolls of it. There aren't many cases in my area, but businesses are still shutting down. I have been furloughed form my job. Please pray for me.

Our parish is live-streaming services, but that is such a poor substitute for being there, not to mention being kept from the chalice.

I got out and about yesterday for the first time in about 10 days. I drove the 37 miles to the church to meet with Father for confession, then i was able to stay and talk for a little while. He has been sick for most of the last month, but still able to serve, and finally seems to be getting better. Then I dropped off something to a friend who lives near the church, so I had a little bit of social interaction.

I came back up here to buy groceries, but even up here, a lot of things were out - very little meat, eggs, canned veggies, or bread. I didn’t even look at the paper goods aisle, lol! But I was able to get approximately what we wanted, with a few substitutes.

To be fair, the media isn’t disseminating the information about corona very well. It’s a panic that is starting a societal regression.
  • COVID-19 does not usually cause severe symptoms or death when people do catch it.
  • When people do acquire COVID-19, they most often (perhaps as high as 80-90% of the time) have only mild or moderate symptoms (i.e., fever, cough, shortness of breath).
  • People most at risk of severe reactions to COVID-19 are the same people who are most at risk to severe reactions from other illnesses such as the flu: the elderly and those with chronic health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, etc.
  • Because people who are less vulnerable to the virus can spread it to those who are more vulnerable (i.e., those who are immunosuppressed, over 65 years), it is important to refrain from physical contact with others and stay home when sick.
  • Children seem to be the least likely to be infected or to experience severe symptoms if infected.

Where I work in Nashville closed it’s doors at 5:30 yesterday. It’s the restaurant industry.

Supermarket panic and schools closing around Nashville, TN are what’s happening. Not sure about death-count or people who have confirmed cases though. I know there are at least 5 confirmed cases from the last update a week ago (so probably more now).

It’s a strong likelihood that we will be on a quarantine in 48-72 hours - from two sources I’ve heard from in the military. Do take these words with a grain of salt though as they may be hoaxes.

In all honesty, I disagree with how the government is acting. But, by God’s Providence we shall all prevail with prayer. There’s no need for any fear.

Lord have mercy.

Absolutely. I heard a report on our local Liberal radio station that there was an 88% increase in cases in the last 24 hours in Maryland.

Well......................what does that mean????

The first thing you think about when you hear the number 88% is some terrible and drastic increase in the number of cases and that we are on the verge of a complete meltdown.

Of course, what it could mean is that over the last 24 hours, Maryland's case load went from 10 to18 people (88%). Sounds a lot less threatening, doesn't it? Honestly, I don't trust the media or government anymore. Not one bit.

Let's see ...... restaurants closed except for carry-out. Went to IHop the other day and found it strange to look at an empty dining room with all the chairs upside down on the tables. Traffic seems a little lighter, but then again, I haven't been out as much as I usually am. Elizabeth has a number of underlying illnesses and if I bring this home to her, she is probably a goner!

Went to Wal-Mart today. People are still shopping, although I found parking a lot more easy. Shelves are spotty. Some empty and others look pretty normal. I got three propane tanks for the grill we have, we have plenty of water and food, so if they lock us down, we won't starve

Listening to the radio traffic reports you can tell that the roads are not as croweded as usual, especially during rush hour. Mostly I'm just a bit stir crazy, but I do have things to do around the house and for my business.

We are hunkered down in our houses. No one comes in our house and no one leaves. The streets are quiet in Spain, enforced now by the police. We cannot move about and I think most Spaniards agree with that.

I am a sort of a 5 or 6 on the introvert/extrovert scale. But I have found, after a week of lockdown, that I need to see people. Even strangers. Its hard to go—literally overnight—from living in a bustling city to living in solitary confinement. I suppose this is hell, really. I am working from home and setting up videoconference calls with people across Europe, many with whom I would otherwise never speak, just to have some modicum of human contact.

That video contact can be emotionally wrenching for me. I don’t see anybody suffering. But I love Europe. I love the charming diversity we see by moving a few hundred miles in any direction. I love how Europeans, unlike Americans, make a point of generalising about our cultural differences. We’ve lost that, temporary I hope, as we all cower in our houses. We’ve all become the same, sadly.
I know it must be even more difficult for you and others that live in societies and cultures that are much more community/communal in nature, such as the Spaniards, Latinos, Italians, and Greeks (and probably others). I've watched the news showing how it's been in Italy. So tragic, and the uplifting video of them standing on their balconies listening to music streaming down their streets, singing along and banging pots and pans. It gave me joy to see this. That little bit of joy in the midst of so much tragedy and sadness really made my day. God be with you, Jesus4Madrid.

Hubby and I got out today. I'm just recovering from some stomach virus. Anyway, had to go get prescriptions from the pharmacy, cat food, and also to the local grocery store for food. The toilet paper aisle's shelves were completely empty. We've got some left, but soon, we'll have to go out hunting for some!

As of yesterday, the Sacramento Bee reported 53 cases in this city, 3 deaths. That's an increase of 8 cases since the last update on Thursday, but no new deaths. My upstairs neighbors, a nice family from (I'm guessing, given the makeup of this neighborhood) Afghanistan or thereabouts, have someone in their house who has been horrifically hacking up a lung since at least yesterday. I've tried to close all the vents in this apartment (call me paranoid, but I'd rather be paranoid and alive than paranoid and dead!), but there are two I can't reach, and obviously nobody's coming over to help with that.

Sooo...I sure hope I'm wrong, but it seems like things could be about to get interesting around here, in a very, very bad way. Lord have mercy!

J4, I miss chatting with you, brother!! I was just thinking about you wondering how it's going. I know Spain and even worse, Italy, are just being swallowed by this menace. You ARE in our prayers and love. You hang in there!

I'm not sure what you meant about Americans and the generalization of cultural differences? If you get a chance, elaborate on that one.....

Keep your eyes toward heaven and not around. He is in our midst even when the world just plain sucks. God bless Spain!
