This article details many steps taken in Illinois & nationwide regarding the coronavirus; the bottom of the page discusses things that have happened nationwide. Coronavirus in Illinois updates: Here’s what’s happening Saturday with COVID-19 in the Chicago area

Since we are called to be thankful in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18), and to not worry (Matthew 6), trusting in God the whole way (Proverbs 3:5), I want to open this thread up to any stories & thoughts about the good things that are happening in the midst of this coronavirus panic. This is very much open to anyone of any faith; I just wanted to start this with Bible verses, for sake of reminding Christians about what our God says about leaning on Him, and I also think non-Christians may be interested in seeing Scripture presented in a non-argumentative way, where the spiritual mechanisms may be met with disagreement or doubt, but the message itself is very positive and comforting, reminding us that there is something greater than this beautiful but broken world.

As I heard about the major events that are being canceled, such as the professional sporting events, I think this may be a blessing for all those caught up in human trafficking*. Without the masses of people moving to these events, those being sold for sex may have a time of relief from their awful duty.

*I won't go into detail on this issue here, but considering that the entire American hotel industry is being trained to recognize & stop trafficking, consider it a more serious issue than this virus: No Room for Trafficking | AHLA

What else? Where else can we find some pieces of comfort, hope, and positivity when the world seems caught up in fear of the flu? I truly believe that everything, even the worst of circumstances, always have a beautiful & good element hidden within. Let's find it!

Trying to see some positive

Just can't come up with anything yet
Perhaps we need to make the positives.

Were you planning on going to anything that's being cancelled because of the virus? Make that newly created space of time spent at home into something wonderful for your family, pets, or prayer life. Just an example.

here's one.

The rapidly increasing air travel is fast becoming a major air polluter.

And the Jet airliners often fly into the ozone layer and they probably deplete the ozone layer more than other sources.

The pandemic has dramatically reduce air travel and this may help the Ozone layer recover

Beyond all the illness misery, death, economic, and lifestyle issues, the disease does have value in forcing society and its people to understand vulnerable issues of what a global viral epidemic in this era of world wide travel, especially business travel, a global corporate economy, and overpopulation entails.

Decades ago when most western nations were relatively independent economically, notably for everyday consumer goods, and particularly food, and especially given how our frequent human wars tended to isolate countries, a nation might isolate themselves by simply closing borders and international travel if it came down to that. Today as massive corporations race to lowest costs by buying globally, and politicians set up fair trading policies, we cannot isolate ourselves those ways, that is a weakness. In the USA, much of those goods and increasing amounts of food is being imported. We still most importantly have the majority of our food production so in the worst situation, we will still be able to eat though may not have a toothbrush or toothpaste to brush our teeth. Many other countries given endless population growth, especially in the third world, have lost much of their domestic food production and instead are feeding their masses through international food purchases in exchange for usual raw materials like minerals and lumber, so in the worst situations as countries lock down domestic products, could be facing famine.

For years I've been complaining about the economic and political powers of growth and development driving endless insane population growth, especially as it relates to irreversible damage to our fragile blue water planet and its wonderful life that God created for us. And have warned that unless we human beings work together for a static population much lower than already exists with static sustainable economic goals, we as a species may be doomed. Thus this global virus hopefully will shock enough of we human beings into putting pressure on the economic and political powers for change.

I took up playing with a yoyo and watching classic films (we watched The Seventh Seal last weekend).

I probably should spend alot more time meditating and reading spiritual books, but I just don't feel particularly spiritual.

We carry a message of hope that goes beyond any circumstance. In moments of fear or danger it is this hope that still remains and we may use that message to reach others who feel hopeless in the wake of the pandemic. We may also bond together (not physically so as not to spread the virus) but in different creative networks to help those in need. Where there is great need there is great opportunity to help and show the love of Christ. We may be called to comfort the families with lost loved ones, to feed those who need extra help, to even drive people to the hospital to visit their family or be given treatment. Corona will pass, but what won't pass is hope and love in Christ and we have an opportunity to show that hope and love to people in greater need.

hopefully, we'll realize how blessed we are on a daily basis
-being able to go to grocery store & get anything we need
-jump on a plane whenever we want
-have our children go to school daily

now that some of these ^ are temporarily out of order, hopefully we'll live with more gratitude, not taking things for granted

A very wise balanced way to look at this situation.
It is a tough situation in which we must trust God totally. Instead of panic, prayer is needed. Instead of the selfishness of worrying for ourselves, think of the vulnerable and elderly who will suffer.

I am appalled at the panic buyers. I refuse to join in. We all eat far too much anyway in our modern world. Some sensible rationing will not kill us. To rush around taking more than one's fair share is bad news.

I have enough stock in, i only need buy what i need.
The positive i can see is that toughest times are our opportunities to get closer to God. Put our trust in Him. So i am praying a lot.
Also being sensible. Staying home, away from the crowds.

This virus has many spiritual implications as people are going to recognize the limitations of humanity. I would expect a huge harvest and turning to God if this persists. Spending time at home with the family, with worldly events such as sports and many other forms of entertainment (not necessarily sinful, but great distractions from God) cancelled are going to get people thinking more about God and what is important in life.

Actually i am an introvert at heart and hate surprise visitors and people wasting my time. Now we all have the ideal excuse! I love solitude.

However, i have a number of close trusted friends whose company i value, meeting for lunch or coffee. I love church and housegroup. All of which must now be stopped. That is hard for me. Maybe months ahead empty of social life.
But i am a great reader and i love my Bible. So never really lonely.
Also facebook and this group are always here!

Folks, the Statement of Purpose has this:
All news and current events threads must be documented or validated with a link to a credible online news source in the original post (OP).

We are have had to move a number of threads recently. At this point, I am just closing them. If it continues, we may need to do forum specific bans.

Read the Statement of Purpose for the forums you post in. Start threads in the correct forum.

reopened this for editing of the OP.

People, people, listen up, humans will overcome the Coronavirus when our own antibodies develop an inhouse virus killer. Once humans develop this antibody it will be passed on to our children and from then on, this virus will reside in our history books, not our morning news outlets. In the meantime, many will carry on, some we will lose;.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., such is life.
