No, Jobs children celebrated their birthdays, and while Job was concerned about it, his concern centered around whether his children might be sinning during these celebrations..

I think birthday celebrating is fine, so long as it's not used as a cause for sin, but rather, is done in a manner that glorifies God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

other than that, I'm sure it's neither here nor there to have cake and ice cream on a birthday...

The Bible says the day of a man's death is greater than his birth (Ecclesiastes 7:1) so when it comes to Christ our greater emphasis should be on his death and ressurection - just as the example of the Apostles showed us.

The Bible also shows us however, that many will rejoice at the birth of Jesus (Luke 1:14), and so I see no issue with rejoicing in Christ's birth.

This is just a point I also want to bring up.
Why in all the nativity scenes are the wise men from the east there?
I always found it peculiar that Herod had told them to look for the young child Matthew 2:8 and in Matthew 2:11 it says "they were come into the house they saw the young child with Mary his mother". No mention of a manger etc. Then in verse 16 Herod commanded the killing of all children in Bethlehem two years old and under.
Why? Because the wise men were never at Jesus birth. So why even in churches do their nativity scenes have them there?
I asked a pastor once and he smiled indulgently at me like I was to be humoured and said " Oh its for the children, they like it"????? What on earth???

To some that may not seem a big deal but IF your going to portray something biblical at least make it accurate. That is blatantly false.

It's the TV version. Most historical/biographical films & TV shows condense their timelines to shorten their run-times.

His pre ministry is there in the word and can be corroborated in historical timing.

came up last week... (no, not the gross way) .....

Someone (many actually), after being tested, was told by the doctor they need to quit eating cake and ice cream.
They did not like the doctor, therefore, and did not go back to him.
(others did, and were immensely helped)

They, who like cake and ice cream , went on eating cake and ice cream and gaining weight, increasing blood pressure, and getting (from all they ate and that) diabetes.... now , a little over ten years later, they are on over a dozen medications a day, grossly over weight, sick daily, and still have no honest hope of recovery.... all because they liked cake and ice cream and would not take good correction from the honest doctor.

Money is always tight at Christmas time and I hate getting gifts from people that I couldn’t afford to get a gift for.

Okay, just what was it that "the little drummer boy" GAVE to the MESSIAH JESUS ?






Or, "can any of us" , afford to Give Yahweh A Gift Daily ?!?

(or can any of us afford NOT TO !?!?)

Cake and ice cream isn't bad in moderation - and the Bible teaches moderation..

I ate a piece of cake from the deli on my birthday and didn't get fat. It's a matter of having a little and then stopping. One piece occasionally on special occasions doesn't do anything bad.

It may be but I am talking about whenever I have seen a church displaying a nativity scene, there are those wise men!

Luke 2:11 says " and when they were come into the house..... " check it out, a manger is not in a house.

I think there are good opportunities for testimony at this time of the year; carols with the truth in them; etc.

I do like Christmas myself because of the Gospel opportunities and carol content, etc.

It is simply compressing a number of events surrounding the birth of Christ into one scene, they may even include a couple of angels even though they were only witnessed by the shepherds watching over the sheep. It is the condensed version, for full details and timelines you go to the Gospels.

USED TO not like Christmas as it was too stressful when we celebrated with both sides of family & needed to travel to another state often on snowy, slow moving hwys

no longer do above which has cut down stress a lot


this yr has turned out to be a special Christmas time
this eve. at church, our preteen went down for an altar call
she said "I believed before but now Jesus is in my heart!"
