Having a Middle Eastern name doesn't automatically make someone a Muslim. I know quite a few Christians with Middle Eastern Names. Also since there were also names like Bob, Mary, Luke, Christopher, Jimmy, Ben, Marco, Anne, Daniele, Kevin, Fred, Walter, Jessica, Lou, Arthur, Alexander, Justin, and Marie among others mixed in with the Middle Eastern names, then in all likelihood that list is in response to something totally different than the fire.

I still haven't seen any legitimate evidence of that being the case. If anything, seeing that cathedral burning was probably the last thing refugees would want to see because they know the right-wing anti-immigration/anti-Muslim crowd would try to pin it on them.

So far I have seen a positive response from members of the Muslim community being reported.

Notre Dame fire: The iconic cathedral that 'transcends religion'

Some quotes from some more prominent Muslims:

“I feel so sorry for the massive fire at the historical architectural masterpiece ‘Notre-Dame Cathedral’ in Paris, our hearts go out to our brothers in France, they deserve our full support,” -- Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Egypt’s leading Islamic institute

"Heartbreaking scenes of Notre Dame cathedral in flames. London stands in sorrow with Paris today, and in friendship always." -- London Mayor Sadiq Khan

“I deeply regret the news of the fire in the historic tower at the Cathedral of Notre Dame,” he said, calling it a “great loss for all mankind.” -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi

"this disaster affects not only one of the most emblematic historical monuments of the city of Paris, but also a site of prayers for millions of worshipers around the world." -- Moroccan King Mohammed VI

“On behalf of Senegal, I express our solidarity with France and the whole Christian community throughout the world,” President Macky Sall

In the past Muslims have shown solidarity with churches in different parts of the world that have suffered a loss and this will once again be the case with the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Muslims raise nearly $100,000 for burned black churches
Muslims building a Christian church in Pakistan
Muslims help to rebuild church in Philippines
Muslims, Copts rebuild church destroyed in sectarian clashes in Egypt
Mosul’s Muslims rebuild church in solidarity with Christians
Stop.

A reminder that those that are not Catholic may not debate here and it is highly inappropriate do so.

Lol, the protestants are coming here solemnly to argue with one another. We're the cool kids aren't we ? ;)

I don't recall saying otherwise. In fact, I don't even recall mentioning Moslems but I might be wrong, it's been a long day.

I know quite a few Christians with Middle Eastern Names.
That's lovely, dear.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I usually only look at the titles when I respond to a thread and I didn't realize this topic was in the Catholic forum, I apologize and will discontinue posting.

Hmmm, I think I found a bug? Maybe just my phone. *making a note*

Anyway, I hope they rebuild the frame with steel and concrete.
I'm thinking that famous landmarks in Paris should be slathered in bacon grease from now on.

"France is a nation steeped in liberal secularism. Throughout the modern era, the nation has suffered from its refusal to include God in public life. Thus, for such secularists, the fire is a tragic accident that destroyed a city landmark and UNESCO world heritage site. Its loss will impact the economy. The damage will be considered a cultural setback. However, they will see no meaning or consequences in the fire outside of the physical fact."

That's something that has been ringing in my ears since it happened, how so many non-Catholics lament it's loss but in hearing them, I just know they have no concept of it's true value.

From the priest who helped save the Eucharist and relics:

"Everybody understands that the Crown of Thorns is an absolutely unique and extraordinary relic, but the Blessed Sacrament is our Lord, really present in his body, soul, divinity and humanity and you understand that it is hard to see someone you love perish in the blaze. As firefighters we often see casualties from fire and we know its effects, this is why I sought to preserve above all the real presence of our Lord Jesus-Christ....

The time when the fire attacked the northern bell tower and we started to fear losing it, was exactly the time when I rescued the Blessed Sacrament. And I did not want to simply leave with Jesus: I took the opportunity to perform a Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament.

Here I am completely alone in the cathedral, in the middle of burning debris falling down from the ceiling, I call upon Jesus to help us save His home.

It was probably both this and the excellent general maneuver of the firefighters that led to the stopping of the fire, the ultimate rescuing of the northern tower and subsequently of the other one.

We started Lent by imposing ashes and saying "remember you are dust", and truly this was a miniature Lent: the Cathedral went to ashes, not to disappear, but to emerge stronger, as we Christians are, after the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus-Christ."

Communiqué of the Office of the Archbishop of April 16, 2019
Dear Bishop Aupetit and brother in Christ,
Dear Catholic brothers and sisters,
Dear Compatriots,
Following the very serious fire of Notre-Dame de Paris that affected the Catholic Church of Paris and France during this Easter, our Archbishopric, myself and the faithful of our Saint-Alexandre-Nevsky cathedral join us in trauma of each.
This national tragedy strikes us Christians, and all those who are attached to this spiritual, cultural and historical heritage of our country.
On this occasion, I ask all our faithful to raise their prayers by asking the Lord for help and mercy for Archbishop Aupetit, Archbishop of Paris and for his entire diocese.
Also I invite all people of good will to be generous and support the reconstruction of Notre-Dame-de-Paris and making their donation.
+ Archbishop Jean de Charioupolis >>

One aggravating thing is how some people have complained about the fundraiser for repairing Notre Dame raised so much so quickly while the Flint water crisis is in its fifth year.

Quite apart from having nothing to do with the price of tea in China, it's like none of them realize they can start a Flint fundraiser whenever they want.

Yes, I have seen that too. Further, I have asked - usually to no response - if the people that are so outraged actually donated to these apparently superior causes, or point out that donating to one does not mean you can't donate to both. So far no one has answered in the affirmative.

And it would probably be much more successful than any state or federal government effort to address the issue.
