Why? Let me explain. I've been a Christian for the last 6 years or so. That year (November 2013) I got saved and received the Holy Spirit. I won't bore you with the details on how I know for 100% sure. But recently within the past year I've found myself being interested in other religions (Islam and Judaism specifically).

I mean in order for Christ to promise me eternal life it must mean that I NEVER will convert to another religion. But the thing is? The other religions make a lot of sense. Like Judaism for example. It is a religion that started Christianity and Islam. It was Gods favored religion in OT times. Now all of a sudden we're supposed to believe that God has abandoned the Jews and now favors Christians because they believe in and worship his son? Where is Gods plan to save his own people? It makes no sense and I really think that Judaism is the right religion. I mean the biggest red flag about Christianity? We worship three different Gods when God is supposed to be ONE. Now I know its explained one God in three different persons but come on people that's impossible! Either we worship three different Gods or we worship one God. There is no three in one because three in one makes no sense.

I mean... It just doesn't make any sense. Yet somehow for the last six years I've remained loyal to Christ. I want to die remaining loyal to Christ but there's this sinking feeling in my chest that I just can't shake that I am wrong and that Judaism or Islam is the right religion. Oh well if Judaism is correct once I die it'd just be black anyway. The only religion that threatens Bellaire to unbelievers is Islam and who knows the Quran could be the word of God.

I would say that we are all under attack from Satan.

Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. -1 Thessalonians 2:18

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. - 2 Corinthians 12:7

But....

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. - 1 John 5:4

I would seek faith building material if I were you.

We dont worship 3 Gods. Only one.

Look at it this way: (not literally)

God is the Father, much like the sun in our universe.
From that sun also comes rays of light, just like Jesus.
The light that shines on the whole earth, is very much like the Holy Spirit.

3 distinct persons but one God. All coming from the same source.

Hello and welcome to CF.

Yes, we are all continually under attack from the enemy, and he knows our weaknesses.

It sounds to me as if you don't have solid grounding in Christianity first (that's not an insult - there are few fellowships out there in my experience that offer really solid teaching ... too many are drifting after feelings, sensationalism, or how someone can get benefit of whatever kind). And at the same time, you seem to be opening yourself up to exploring other faiths. That's a dangerous position to be in.

Christianity is certainly strong enough to stand up to scrutiny. I'm not saying check your brain at the door. In fact, we have in our treasury of history intellectual giants who taught very eloquent and rational doctrines - all true. But if you don't have access to the knowledge that would safeguard you from heresy, you run a lot of risk of being tossed about by the winds of whatever teachings you hear.

The Holy Trinity ... is not easily understood by man. In a certain sense, we cannot understand it. But we can certainly know things that help it to make more sense. I'll be honest, for much of my life I understood it to refer to "three gods" as well, and while I had nothing better and would have agreed if asked, I always felt uncomfortable about it. We most certainly believe that God is One ... absolutely. There is one Essence - what God IS - that cannot be divided in any way. However, God within Himself is relational. There are thus three Persons (as we have received from the teaching of Jesus, the revelation of the Holy Spirit, the showing forth at Jesus' baptism). Man is not like God, so we cannot really comprehend. Jesus is the Word of God, the Holy Spirit is the Breath of God. They are NEVER opposed in purpose or any other way. (The teaching that God the Father wishes to crush us like bugs in His anger, only stayed by Jesus stepping into the way as if He opposed or protected us from the Father - is confusing to people at best, and potentially blasphemous.)

But ask yourself this ... if God always was, and only God is uncreated, so eternally God was, but before creation nothing else ... and if God IS love, and God never changes, so God was always love - who did God love? We can't imagine that He was incomplete without creation, lonely, missing an object of His very Being. He wouldn't be God if He lacked anything. But He didn't lack. Rather the three Persons within the Holy Trinity are relational within the Essence that is the One God. He is complete in Himself, even in being able to BE love.

Anyway.

If it were me, I would seek out some solid teaching. I would suggest not only the Holy Scriptures, but perhaps begin with the disciples of the Apostles, and the writings as everything in the early Church was being established, such as Ignatius of Antioch, Clement of Rome, Polycarp, Justin Martyr. John Chrysostom a few centuries later has excellent commentaries on Scripture and sermons.

And of course, pray for God's help and guidance. But be very careful, as you may be susceptible to misleading by the enemy as well - remember he can appear as an "angel of light" and will give what appears to be good teaching to seduce a person away in order to eventually destroy their faith.

Prayers for you. Please stay around CF, and explore different forums. I'm sure you'll get lots of advice, and some of it conflicting. But it's worth eternity to sort through everything and find the Truth. That pearl of great price that is worth more than everything else you might have.

May God help you and guide you and protect you.

I think everybody has been tempted in some way, shape, or form to join a different religion. I've personally been tempted by Islam and Judaism as well. While I cannot answer what God's plans for the Jews are I do believe that God DOES have a plan for the Jews. After all God is returning to restore the Jewish temple and to restore Jerusalem to its former glory. So God HAS to have a plan for the Jews. As to the whole three in one problem I don't think a single person can explain that away. Its one of the many mysteries of God. But God has to be at least two in one because God says in Genesis "Let US create mankind in OUR own image"

If God were just one God in one person like Judaism and Islam teaches why would he say "Let us create mankind in our image."? Wouldn't he say "Let me create man kind in my own image"?

Christians still believe in one God its just a God that happens to be in three distinct persons. It's a mystery of scripture that just cannot be answered.

That's probably the best way one can explain the Trinity. Its a mystery of scripture. I was confused on the Trinity as well until a friend of mine pointed out God saying "Let us create mankind in our image". That's probably the best evidence for the Trinity in the Bible. John also said that Jesus is God in the flesh in the very beginning of the Gospel of John. So if Jesus is God the Father is God than the Holy Spirit must be God as well.

We don't worship three Gods but one in three distinct persons.

If you feel certain about your Salvation and you truly have the revelation of who Jesus Christ is and the problem He came to solve, then I wouldn't be scare about learning about religions because God might be trying to show me something, but I’d do it in a safe environment: with a teacher, in a discussion group. I’d ask God: is this You? What are you trying to tell me?

In Romans 8 and 9 you can Read God’s plans. Even though He did create His people (the Israelites), their job was to announce the coming of the Messiah. The whole Old Testament is a picture of Jesus. God’s plan was to open the way for everyone to have the same opportunity to reconnect to God through Jesus Christ. The promise to the Jews still stands, but as Paul says, not everyone who is called Israel is of Israel. The Jews are “asleep” until the number of the people who will accept Jesus as their Savior enter eternal life. Please note that eternal life doesnt mean to die and some day go to Heaven. Eternal life is knowing God.

About God being 3 in 1, we were made in His image, we ourselves are 3 in 1; we have a spirit, a soul and we live in a body. Our spirit reconnects to God and then we go through a process of learning to submit (out of love) to God’s Spirit, which will heal our souls and bodies.

Here are some amazing classes that might help you see things differently.

I think you should read through any of these gospels; Matt, Mark, Luke or John. When you've read through one of them, you'll understand that Christ is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. I suggest you should read through Johns gospel. If you need more conviction on this, I think you should speak to your passtor or Priest, God loves you so much

Which books of the New Testament have you truly studied? It very clearly teaches that Jesus Christ is God's plan of salvation for both Jews and Gentiles alike, and that Christ's sacrifice is superior to the Old Covenant (though the Law itself was good).
