the article says that the money for the vehicle came from his book deal.

my only concern, being that this guy is a pastor; a leader of the flock, is what example is such extravagant spending setting in a society where materialism is an issue?
I agree. THe example left is the worse part.

Didn't Peter say to Ananias and Sapphira that their money was their own and they could do with it as they please?

Let me know when you have sold all your expensive possessions and emptied your bank account to feed the poor and suffering,
All i own are tools which i use to make money, and i have no money in the bank.

Marriage brings a complete change of life, emotions, commitments and lifestyle that a single person knows nothing about.

Also, the pastoral ministry is also such that those who are not pastors cannot know what it entails, because they have never had to face the challenges, disappointments, heartbreaks, etc., nor had to conduct funerals of those who once worshipped God in his church, nor had to comfort bereaved family members. The pastoral ministry is more than just getting up on a Sunday morning and giving theological pearls of wisdom in a three-hymn-and-sermon church service!

Until you are married, and/or had experience in the pastoral ministry, you don't have the experience to make any credible comment about it.
My point was that nothing comes before God though? If I get married that won't change.

I also don't think buying an expensive car is the same as having emotions, commitments towards a wife and lifestyle changes

neither of those two were pastors charged with setting an example for other believers.

When you do get married, let me know if you still have the same views. :)

elders are charged with being a good example, so i would assume that all church leaders should be as well.

1 Peter 5 Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over [a]those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.

Philippians 3:17 Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us.

The problem is in too many church is that people are telling others how they should live and what they should do. The Bible labels these as busybodies, sticking their noses into affairs that have nothing to do with them. My daughter keeps away from church because she does not want others telling her how to live. I understand how she feels. My attitude toward people who try to tell me what I should do and how I should behave is that I tell them, "You have your opinion, and I have mine." Works for me. I agree with everyone on principle when the criticise me, but I don't let them change my behaviour unless their criticism is valid and they are not just trying to manipulate me into behaving the way they think I should behave. I will say somethings, "What is it about [whatever] that is concerning you right now? If they keep on at me, I will say, "What is it about [whatever about the whatever] that is concerning you? I keep on with that until they give up and walk away.

In some cases a pastor is personally wealthy because of family inheritance. In 1772 my family were poor Roman Catholic crofters on the island of South Uist in Scotland's Hebrides. It was that year that the bully boys of the Protestant landlords came with swords and staves and drove them from their homes. Their parish priest collected them, fed them, chartered a ship, purchased all the supplies and tools necessary for settlers and sailed for Prince Edward Island, Canada. That was a far better investment than a Lambourghini.

First your ad hominem was that people are Judas like, that was refuted, then it was an "envious spirit", now its "busybodies". However, let me ask you, If we cannot hold our leaders accountable how can they hold us accountable? Is a preacher a busy body when he preaches against sin?

It would be interesting if someone came up to you and handed you enough money to buy a Lamborghini and said, "Go buy one!", you would say to that person, "Thanks for the money. I will give it all to the City Mission to feed the poor!"

I doubt it.

No I wouldn't. I would tell the potential giver I didn't care for such a car and either a) ask if I could use it on things I thought more appropriate or b) give it back if the answer was no.

What I would not do would be to drive a Lamborghini.

Especially in my area - which is an impoverished area. The optics are horrible and I'd look at first glance like a degenerate human being, even to an atheist - not a good way to tell people about Christ through my behavior.

My husbands actions is what led me to Christ. I know more than most how actions look to others... and how they can actually bring people to Christ if those actions show a living Christ - something a Lamborghini does not do.
