Yes. You said that you don't see where Trump was calling for showing ID to buy cereal. The claim is that he thinks that you need to show ID to buy cereal. Those are two very different claims.

The latter claim is a reasonable conclusion based on what he said. If you bought cereal, you have ID. The only way that statement could be true is if you have to show ID in order to purchase cereal. The former claim is not made by anyone.

OK, now your going o pick at what I said too?

OK, lets try it this way, how was it a reasonable conclusion as you call it? that's what I'm trying to get someone to explain.

What you said was a distinctly different claim than what is being discussed. It's not my fault you failed to communicate your issue.

I literally explained why I think it's a reasonable conclusion to reach in the next sentence that you cut off.

Berate me for what I missed, whatever...I don't care, but I can only assume you're still not going to explain. Thanks just the same

Some posters here apply such high standards for grammar, syntax and proper word use and order to defend what The President says but do not apply the same standards to The President when he says that stuff.

Trump: "if you buy a box of cereal — you have a voter ID."

How do/would you buy your cereal?
Go to store. Chose something that isnt neon colored puffed corn syrup paste. Pay cash. Get change. Leave.

Cash is not considered a valid voter ID, unfortunately.

Does everyone pay cash or do some use credit/debit cards, or maybe even checks or food stamps?

No one has ever asked me for ID to use a credit card, including a corporate card with $25,000.00 limit and a government P-Card with a $100,000.00 limit. I haven’t written a check at a store for a decade but still mail them sometimes for bills, don’t have to show ID that way either.

There are other options.

But cash works too, so buying cereal doesnt mean you have a voter ID.

I carry at least four forms of ID at all times, including my Passport and long form birth certificate. It makes sense really, because if the store clerks are asking for ID to buy cereal, you just might live in a Police State. Nationalist Presidents prefer those I hear.

I don't think most folks have used checks in a good long while. There was a little lady in front of us at the store who wanted to pay with a check & the young gal who was the cashier didn't know what to do with it so she had to call the manager. This was very memorable on account of how the self check out section was closed & the line got backed up a lot on account of how long it took to process that 1 check. Everybody kept their patience was real nice to the lady, she kept apologizing & said she didn't have any cash & her card had expired.

Most places I go anymore the cashier doesn't even touch my credit card. I put it in the reader, sign the reader if it asks, and go on. Mickey Mouse could be printed on the card and they'd never know.

True, you don't have to show ID to USE them. But, In order to GET such cards from the issuer and/or your bank, you have to present valid ID (SSN, valid address, etc.) and generally go through a credit check for credit limits. Which is comparable for what most states would require for a voter ID card. Not so different.

There's like 10 million undocumented immigrants without proper voting ID who "buy cereal" every day.
Yes, there are ways around the system. Some of them used to be my neighbors. Regardless, and in context, in general, if you go to the store to buy cereal, the payment method most commonly used (debit/credit card issued by their bank and/or by a major credit card company) by most Americans requires at least some form of ID, address verification, and/or background check to set up. Similar to what it takes for a voter ID card.
